Damien awoke his mind still reeling. He yawned big blinking the last vestiges of sleep from his big emerald eyes. "Ho ho, the little tike is awake is he?" The booming voice of Tepmin resounded through the orphanage. Yet he could not see the giant. "How does he know I'm awake if he's not here?" Damien turned his head from side to side. He seemed to be back in his crib. There were no bars like a crib of old, it was actually an expandable bedding designed for babies/toddlers and the walls were translucent so that the baby could see his/her surroundings. The bedding was like lying on a cloud it was so soft.
Through these walls Damien saw a spacious room. There was a window directly on his left looking out over The Grind. It was a dismal sight, smoke billowing, people trudging along. On his right on the far side of the room was the door to leave. There were three beds on both sides of this door. Each with what seemed like floating bunks above them so twelve beds in total. In the middle of the floor was a large rug with toys splayed everywhere. Walking across would be an absolute nightmare if you were barefoot. Toy soldiers here, sharp blocks there. Damien grinned in his head imagining Tepmin's massive frame hopping on one foot after stepping on one of these landmines.
"Welcome back little tike!" A massive hand reached into the crib scooping Damien up.
"Waaaaaahhhhh" Damien wailed in fright. "When the fuck did he get here? How did I miss him." Big tears started to form in Damien's eyes.
"Oh there there little tike." Tepmin caressed Damien's head gently settling him with incredible speed. "It's alright, I didnt mean to scare you, I thought you saw me sitting there." Tepmin turned his trunk of a body to point at his oversized rocking chair, which he had apparently brought inside from the front porch."I know you probably have better things to do such as sleeping, shitting, and generally being waited on hand and foot, but I thought you might like to see where you'll be living until further notice." Tepmin chuckled at his own joke seemingly not noticing the comically irritated scowl that was plastered on the baby's face.
"Well as we leave this room you have the main hallway, which practically leads to everywhere in the house." He displayed his hand dramatically. Our first right we have the restroom. And to our left leads up the stairs which has my room and the rec room which consists of video games, board games, swordplay, etc. etc. Now if you would follow me down the hall young tike. Oh wait, you must be carried." Another chuckle, another scowl. "On our second right we have a dining hall where we all sit to eat. And on our second left we have our little school room, in case you don't want to go to those shitty academy's we have to offer." He walked down the hall a tad further coming to a more open area. " This use to be what was left of the church after I rebuilt the rest." Looking up you could see the stained glass windows far above the double doors. "This is our living room, on the left side will be our other restroom, and on the right will be the kitchen which you got to see earlier."
They were currently standing to the right side of a large couch which was facing a TV. There were three people just relaxing on the couch. They seemed to be watching some colorful show on the screen at the moment. "Let me introduce you to everyone, the others should be inside shortly. You took a decently long nap so it's almost supper time, then it will be off to bed for you little tike." Tepmin then sat down, with earth defying gentleness for a man his size. Setting Damien in the crook of his arm, he sighed and waited for everyone to come inside.
