Chapter 19 - The Two Strangers

You have slain a [Level 3 Green House Fly]!

Rendell stared at the headless corpse of the huge fly and frowned in disgust. "Its blood smells like sh*t!" He cursed under his breath.

He bent down and grabbed the items it dropped.

You have collected x5 Gray Tokens!

You have collected x1 Low-Grade Protective Shirt!

Low-Grade Protective Shirt

- A shirt made with special materials.

Seeing the description, Rendell immediately put the shirt under his armor.

After making sure that he had taken all the dropped items, he climbed down the roof and headed back to find the ladies.

"You're back? Have you dealt with it?" Celine stared at him in surprise.

Rendell nodded at her before turning his gaze to Aurora. "Have you found another one?"

Aurora shook her head. "Not yet. There are no monsters in this location."

Rendell looked around and said. "We should head eastward after searching this area. Tell me if you find a survivor."

"Alright." Aurora nodded. She then activated her Gift and searched the entire location. Her eyes glowed with a bright light.

By using her Mystic Eyes, she could see past the walls like an X-ray. It was a very useful skill, but it drained her mana fast.

Suddenly, she caught sight of Phillip who was tasked to search the houses. She noticed that there were two people with him. "I see Phillip! There are also two people with him!"

"Lead the way." Rendell urged her.

"Follow me."

Under Aurora's lead, they soon encountered Phillip. Behind him was a man wearing a police uniform, while the other was a young girl who seemed to be in her mid-teens.

"Yo! I saw them hiding inside a house." Phillip waved at them.

Rendell stared at the two. The middle-aged policeman smiled at him, while the young high school girl averted her gaze. "Let's bring them back to the house before resuming our task."

Phillip stared at the two people behind him. "I haven't asked your names. We'll do the introductions later. You guys should head back with us before it gets dark."

"Thanks." The policeman said.

The high school girl didn't say anything.

The group then headed back to Ralph's house to bring the two survivors to safety.

"Have you searched the area?" Kent asked as soon as they returned.

Celine shook her head. "Not yet. We just returned to bring them here. We will continue our search."

"I see." Kent stared at the two strangers as he pushed up his glasses. "You can leave them to us. Don't take too long out there."

"Don't worry. We'll be back soon."

"Let's go and continue the search," Rendell said impatiently.

Phillip made an annoyed sound, while the two ladies immediately followed him.

"Let's go inside. We are preparing dinner. You two should eat with us." Kent said as he led them inside.

"Thank god! I haven't eaten anything in two days!" The police officer smiled joyfully while rubbing his empty stomach.

The high school girl was also happy to hear that she could finally get something to eat.

"What are the levels of those two?" Celine asked while looking at Aurora.

"You mean the police officer and that high school girl?"

Celine nodded.

"The girl is just a Level 1. The police officer is quite strong though. He is a Level 4." Aurora responded.

"Huh? He told me that he's only Level 1." Phillip stared at her in confusion.

Celine furrowed her eyebrows. She felt that something was wrong with the police officer when she first saw him. Police officers walk with confidence and their backs are always straight. Even old officers are strict about their gait. However, that person's shoulder was drooping.

"We should head back. There's something wrong with that guy!"

"What do you mean?" Phillip frowned.

"There is no reason for him to lie about his level unless he has ulterior motives," Celine muttered with a serious look.

Rendell stared at her deeply and nodded. "Let's return. Don't tell anyone about this. We should observe the situation first. If he intends to harm the group, I will take care of him."

Everyone nodded in agreement.

After making a decision, they headed back once again.

"Why did you guys come back so soon? Did you forget something?" Kent asked. It wasn't even ten minutes since they left.

"Her mana is almost depleted. I don't want to take a risk so I told them to return." Rendell pointed at Aurora as he replied with a calm voice.

"Is that true?" Kent sent Aurora a questioning gaze.

Aurora nodded.

"I see. We can't help it then." Kent brought them inside the house.

"Smells good! What are you guys cooking?" Phillip quickened his pace when he smelled the fragrant scent of the food.

"Where are the two we brought back?" Celine asked.

Kent stared at her and replied. "They are at the dining table together with the others."

Not long later, they arrived at the dining room. Everyone was already gathered, waiting for their food to be served.

"You're back!"

"Come here and sit with us."

The others invited them to join the table.

Celine looked around and searched for the policeman.

As if sensing her gaze, the policeman smiled and nodded at her.

Phillip went over to him and shook the man's hand. "How are you guys? Have you introduced each other?" He acted like they were longtime buddies.

The policeman smiled stiffly at him. "We already did. By the way, I haven't thank you enough for bringing us here. My name is Greg."

"Oh, so you are Officer Greg! I'm Phillip! That girl over there is Celine and that one is Aurora. As for that person… uh… what's your name again?"

Rendell stared coldly at him.

"So scary. Don't mind him. He's always like that." Phillip pretended to be scared.

"Alright. Stop provoking him, Phillip. Food is here everyone! Let's eat first." Ralph came holding a huge plate filled with fried eggs and hotdogs. Ericka was behind him holding a pot of rice.
