Chapter 25 - Recalling Mother’s Warmth

Rendell's sword penetrated deeply into the head of the reptile, but it didn't die immediately. It vigorously shook its head in an attempt to shake him off. However, Rendell suddenly jumped on its back and clung tightly, refusing to let go.

The creature madly thrashed all over the place, breaking the walls and equipment into pieces.

More wounds appeared on Rendell's body because of this and he almost loosened his grip. With a furious shout, he pulled out his sword and repeatedly stabbed it into its skull.

Soon, the reptile's movement slowed down and it fell to the ground, breathing its final breaths.

Rendell stood up with great difficulty as he stared at the dying creature.

You have slain a [Level 10 Giant Wall Gecko]!

You leveled up!

Rendell was promoted to Level 9 after killing the Giant Wall Gecko, but he wasn't in the mood to check his stats. A wave of dizziness overcame him which almost made him fall. Luckily, he managed to lean against the wall on time.

Just as he was about to lose balance, he felt someone holding him. He wanted to know who it was, but he was too weak to turn his head.

"Are you alright?" From his voice, he could tell that it was James.

Rendell opened his mouth, but he could only let out a pained groan.

"Phillip, quickly call them over! We need to get him treated as soon as possible!" James shouted with urgency.

"Alright."

James helped him sit down in a comfortable position.

"You were reckless! You shouldn't have gone down alone!" James sighed upon seeing the gruesome wounds on his body.

A moment later, Ericka and the others rushed over to his side. They were shocked to see his wounds.

"No!" Aurora covered her mouth with tears in her eyes.

Ericka tore his shirt and inspected his wounds with a serious look on her face. He was losing blood so she immediately applied pressure on the deep wounds and wrapped them with gauze. "Help me bandage his wounds!"

"Let me do it!" Celine squatted and helped her treat his wounds.

"Will he be alright?" Marie asked with concern.

'Are they concerned about me?' He thought to himself with mixed feelings. Other than his parents, no one showed him concern, not even once.

'He lost too much blood. It's already a miracle that he is still alive. This guy is so tenacious.' Ericka thought to herself.

While they were treating him, Kent walked towards the Giant Wall Gecko's corpse. He turned to Phillip and asked. "Who killed this thing?"

"Do you think we can kill it? James' flames didn't even damage its scales. Only that guy could kill it." Phillip replied.

Kent bent down to search for the dropped items. "Help me look for its drops."

James and Phillip nodded.

Meanwhile, Ericka and Celine had already bandaged Rendell's wounds.

"Stay there and don't move. I'll get something for you to lie down on." Ericka stood up and opened her backpack.

"I'll go up to see the situation," Ralph shouted to the group. He then looked at his wife and whispered. "I'll be back. You stay here and watch the kids."

Marie was worried about his safety, but she still nodded her head. "Be careful."

"Mn." Ralph smiled gently and kissed her forehead before he left.

At this moment, Ericka spread a thick blanket. She then asked Celine and Aurora to help her carry Rendell into the blanket.

With their effort, they managed to help him lie down.

Aurora kneeled beside him and carefully wiped off the blood on his head using a towel.

Looking at her face, Rendell couldn't help but recall his mother. When he was still a child, she would always nurse him every time he was sick. 'Mom… I miss you…'

A drop of tear rolled down at the corner of his eye, but no one noticed this because his face was covered in sweat and blood.

"Aurora, give this to him. We found it beside the corpse." James handed her a bottle of red liquid. It was a lesser healing potion.

Aurora's eyes lit up. She then opened the bottle and brought it to Rendell's mouth. "You should drink this. It will help you recover."

Rendell snapped out of his daydream. He stared at her face and opened his mouth.

After helping him drink the potion, she wiped his mouth with the towel. "I hope you get well soon."

Rendell looked away from her and didn't reply.

"What else did it drop?' Celine asked while looking at James.

Hearing this James showed her the tokens in his hand.

"Some gray tokens and that leather armor." He pointed at the gray armor in Phillip's hands.

"You want to see it?" Phillip asked.

Celine nodded. She was curious to see the description of the armor.

Phillip gave her the armor.

Scale Armor

- An armor made from the scales of the Giant Wall Gecko.

"In our group, that armor is only suitable for four people, including you," Kent stated while pushing up his glasses.

Celine lifted her head to look at him. "Who are the other three?"

"Phillip, Sir Ralph, and him." Kent pointed at the Rendell.

"We should wait for him to recover before we decide on who will get the armor. He killed that thing so he should make the decision." James said.

Phillip didn't say anything, but he nodded in agreement.

"Let's talk about that later. We should seal off the entrance first to prevent other creatures from sneaking inside." Kent suggested. With their strongest member incapacitated, it was dangerous for the group to encounter another evolved creature. They had to make preparations immediately before they were discovered.

Soon, the group moved into action.

"Sir, did you see anything outside?" Kent asked.

Ralph shook his head. "I didn't see anything, but I heard some roaring from afar." He replied.

Kent heaved a sigh of relief. "We should seal the entrance. Can you help us block the door?"

"Sure."
