Chapter 5 - Samurai's Pride

The mighty samurai, the strongest force in mankind. Thought low in number, their incredible sword techniques made them a formidable force against any who dared to make them their enemy. But even though they were very strong, they still held no chance against the demon lord and his army.

The reason? It was obviously due to the power of the demon lord himself, as well as the power of his generals. Samurai were powerful but they were not inexhaustible. The sheer number of low leveled demons that were used as fodder slowly chipped away at their stamina.

After that, to fight against even the demon lord's generals proved to be almost impossible for the greatest collection of warriors known to mankind.

Even after the introduction of mana, making those samurai even more unreachable then they already were, they were still unable to protect humanity against its biggest crisis yet.

Asking for help never even crossed their minds, their pride would not allow them to show weakness to those they thought weaker than them. After years of the feeling of superiority they had enjoyed, how could they even be inclined to give it up?

It was the same reason they did not accept the different kingdom's offers. The kingdoms promised them wealth and peaceful relations between them if they helped train soldiers for them so that they may be able to defeat the demon lord together.

Help? The kingdoms would help them? How insulting! They had no right to help them when they were so weak! The samurai could never imagine training other people who were not their own people. Sharing their secret techniques with strangers? Never.

They would become obsolete and disposable. It would only be a matter of time before they would be killed if they were to share their techniques.

Even when one kingdom told them that they had summoned people from another world to defeat the demon lord and that there was a high chance of defeating the demon lord if they helped in training them, they refused.

Their pride would cause the downfall of the world as a whole. The samurai could not see the bigger picture. It would be too late by the time they did.

The old man and the little girl came to stop at the gates of the town of Azleu. The guard in front of entrance came forward

"May I ask what brings you to Azleu?"

"Is this the place where the heroes from another world have been summoned?"

"Who is asking?"

The little girl got impatient.

"We have come here for the purpose of training the heroes and you stupid people have the nerve to keep questioning us?"

"Hush, daughter, this man is just doing his job. You shouldn't be rude to him"

The girl turned away from her father and pouted.

"Humph!"

"I'm sorry for my daughters attitude but we really have come to train the heroes, can we be allowed to enter?"

The guard looked at the two people in the carriage pulled by two horses with suspicion but eventually decided that the king could decide what to do with these people. Whether they were telling the truth or not could be decided by him, along with the punishment in case they were not.

After the father - daughter duo entered the town, they were greeted by the lively atmosphere. They could tell that the king here took care of his citizens just from the fact that almost everyone here seemed as if they were living their best lives.

The people of the town gawked at the two people riding on a carriage pulled by horses. Horses signified wealth and honour, so only rich and powerful people would travel in such a manner. This made all the people of the town stop and stare at these VIPs that they should not offend no matter what.

It also made them curious and surprised as they usually saw oxen pulling carts. It was very rare for some powerful person to come to this backwater town. None of the townsfolk knew that the heroes had been summoned in their town, or else they would all be clamouring to see the heroes.

Unwilling to cause a disruption in their training, the king decided not to reveal the information until the heroes were fully prepared. It would take atleast 2 years to train them, even if they were geniuses. "Complete noobs cannot become pros without a very long time of polishing" - The king and other people who had no faith.

They are completely right though, it would take a long time for those heroes to get into shape. especially for the magic users, who were trying to master something completely new that they had not experienced in their previous world.

While the king was resting on his throne a guard came in and kneeled before him.

"Speak"

"Your majesty, two people have come to visit you, they claim to be samurai and express their desire to train the heroes"

"What?! Call them in, now!"

"Yes, your majesty"

The guard rushed out to welcome the guests inside. The king straightened himself up and made sure he looked presentable. If these people were really samurai then he must establish a good connection with them.

The father and daughter walked into the throne room, no, courtroom as the king liked to call it, and bowed.

"Greetings, king"

"Welcome to Azleu town, I hear you two claim to be samurai?"

"Yes, I am Akira Hanazawa and this is my daughter Chiyo. We come to aid in training your heroes."

The king looked at the two people in front of him and frowned a little. He could not help the tinge of resentment that slipped into his voice.

"Why have the samurai changed their minds? They were so adamant on leaving us to die at the hands of the demon lord previously."

Chiyo started to say something but was held back by her father. He slowly shook his head at her. Chiyo stepped back and lowered her head, her shoulders shaking, in anger no doubt.

"We are sadly the only samurai who have abandoned our pride and have decided to help however we can. We left our comrades without their consent and are fully prepared to show our support."

Chiyo could back no longer. Her head shot up, glaring at the king with tears in her eyes, surprising her father.

"Even if we cannot speak for all the other samurai, we will do everthing and anything to save this world!!"
