Chapter 38 - Inhabitants (3)

Aaron was attacked by other packs of wolves during that night, but they were smaller. Although he faced some other alpha wolves, they didn't prove to be a problem with the pair of horns that Aaron was using to attack and kill them. The only demerit was the fact that gripping them tightly was quite hard.

In the end, Aaron wasn't able to escape from the rain… even with his newfound speed, he had to endure it for the whole night. At least when the sun was rising, he confirmed that the mountains were ending as well and he saw large greenlands ahead and a town as well.

The city's layout was well-organized, with well-paved roads, enchanting parks, and beautiful gardens that enhanced its overall charm. The streets were always busy with merchants, travelers, and locals going about their daily lives, creating a vibrant and lively atmosphere. At least it looked that way from a distance since Aaron could see numerous wagons approaching it.

"I guess I am going to find a lot of green people there… the area around should be free of monsters since it doesn't have groves and forests for them to hide," Aaron thought while he sat down to take a break since his legs were almost screaming in pain. "I will stand out like a sore thumb… the question is, how will they react to me?"

Aaron knew that sooner or later, people would leave the city and follow the numerous roads, so perhaps he should check with them before anything… it would be nice if he could interact with them non-violently since they were intelligent enough to have a society and a city that probably could house hundreds of thousands.

With that in mind, Aaron decided to climb down the mountain. He didn't feel like running anymore, and that was probably for the best since he didn't want the people around him to think that he was dangerous.

The sun began to shine in the area as the clouds dispersed. At the same time, Aaron reached the bottom of the mountain and began to follow his path. Before long, he began to hear the sound of wheels approaching from behind, but he pretended that he didn't notice it…

Eventually, a wagon being pulled by a giant lizard passed by him. The creature didn't react in any way, but when Aaron looked at the driver, he saw a person opening their eyes widely like never before. Some armed guys were on the back of the wagon, and they also looked shocked… but they only had three people with them, so he wondered if that was the reason they didn't attack him.

"I guess my appearance is the problem… for them," Aaron thought while raising his left eyebrow.

Even with his job, the lizard didn't react to Aaron… animals usually have good instincts, and that was why Aaron thought that he was attacked by the fish and those creatures without hesitation… they could feel that he was a problem. The lizard probably had been trained not to attack people… probably.

Regardless, the carriage sped up to the distance after passing by Aaron. His things were on his back, so the horns that he could use as a weapon couldn't be seen, thanks to the cloak, but those guys still feared him.

After not so long, Aaron got closer to the city, and he didn't see any commotion there… Maybe he was thinking too much about it. Still, things changed when some guards at the entrance of the place suddenly realized his appearance. They grabbed their weapons tightly and then began to shout.

"A monster! A monster that is trying to look like us!"

"What the fuck… how am I a monster?" Aaron furrowed his eyebrows. "Bitch, please. I am fabulous."

At least Aaron confirmed that he could understand the language. He didn't know if it was thanks to his system or because of the aspects that were helping him with that; either way, it was convenient… it meant that they had some room for talking.

Unfortunately, it didn't look like the guards of the city didn't seem like they wanted to talk. They charged at Aaron with their spears, ready to impale him… they were also wearing chain mails, but they weren't that fast.

"Look, I am not your enemy. I just want to talk," Aaron said with his hands in the air.

"A monster that can mimic our language…" one of the guards muttered in shock.

"Don't let it fool you. It only wants to make us drop our guard to kill us and enter the city!" Another guard said.

Aaron had a hard time telling those guys apart… everyone didn't have a single piece of hair in their heads; they had pointy ears, and they also were green. They almost looked like shadow clones of each other.

Those guys quickly surrounded Aaron and then readied themselves to attack him. It didn't seem like things were going to proceed the way he wanted, but he still didn't want to be too hasty.

"Let's not be too hasty, okay?" Aaron asked. "I am a man of science. I am sure we can talk with each other while ignoring our differences."

Aaron's words were ignored, and then the guards charged toward him. Aaron felt like sighing… he didn't have any other option but to make those guys listen through pain.
