Chapter 41 - Civilization (3)

Ding! [You obtained 20 experience points]

(You have leveled up.)

(You obtained ten status points and two skill points.)

(You learned a new skill: Thousand Step.)

(Thousand Step: You can cross some distances instantly. The distance crossed will be equal to the level of the skill multiplied by five meters. Cost: 20 Stamina)

When Aaron reached level ten, he was surprised by that skill. At the same time, Aaron saw dozens of bodies around him and a massive green field that had turned red. Despite that, many enemies were still coming from the city… it was a pretty large one, so they should have one or two thousand able-bodied warriors.

"I can keep going like this, but it seems that they don't want that," Aaron said and then saw some archers on the walls preparing to bombard them with arrows.

The new enemies had shields and spears, and they were charging that fast anymore. They still wanted to keep using tactics… Aaron could tell how someone who would create a weapon of mass destruction would feel when they thought of creating something like that. People aren't smart, and relying on others to win wars was too tiresome for them.

Regardless, the enemies formed their lines in front of the gates and then stopped moving. In the next moment, the archers fired dozens of arrows at Aaron, and he just watched them flying in an arc toward him.

Still, the arrows hit nothing. The enemies opened their eyes widely when Aaron suddenly disappeared… it seemed that he had vanished until they heard some grunts of pain, and then they saw the soldiers guarding the gate falling one after the other. Aaron suddenly appeared behind their lines and began to slaughter them.

The soldiers tried to turn and face him, but their weapons, shields, and the bodies falling on them prevented them from doing so, and soon they added to the number of corpses. They had three lines of soldiers with fifty of them in each, but by the time the first line was destroyed, the gates closed while making a loud sound.

"It seems that they abandoned these guys…" Aaron thought when he heard the sound of arrows falling again.

Aaron used Thousand Step once more and then left the area. The arrows killed a bunch of the soldiers and wounded others while he escaped unscathed.

In the end, Aaron soon returned to finish the job and get to another level. At the same time, he saw a bunch more of the Archers moving to the walls to attack him, but he decided to retreat for now… He had many things to consider and analyze.

Aaron walked away toward the mountain he came from, but soon, he stopped when he found a tree where he could lay his back against. That had been tiresome in more ways than one… mentally, physically, and emotionally.

"I usually don't care about this stuff, but…" Aaron said and then watched his hands trembling. "I guess I lived a privileged life up to now only to realize how that mental trauma is truly a thing."

Aaron just killed hundreds of people. It was in self-defense, but that didn't change the fact that it was true… he accepted the job thinking that he could find solutions to all worlds, but it looked like he had been naive.

When Aaron cooled down his head, he began to tremble. Immediately after realizing the consequences of his actions, Aaron experienced a sense of shock and disbelief. He was struggling to come to terms with what he had done and found it difficult to grasp the magnitude of his actions. He ended the lives of hundreds… they will never live again. He ceased the existence of many people who could have lived for decades and could have positively affected the lives of many.

Aaron knew a bit about psychology. What people feel in situations like that. Aside from shock and disbelief… Regret was typically accompanied by a profound sense of guilt. The individuals may feel an overwhelming weight on their conscience, constantly blaming themselves for their actions. They may question their character and integrity, leading to a deep sense of shame.

People in these situations might replay the events in their minds, scrutinizing their decisions and actions. They may feel an intense sense of remorse, constantly berating themselves for not considering the consequences beforehand. Self-blame becomes a common pattern, as they hold themselves responsible for the negative outcomes and any pain caused to others.

Aside from that, many other things like Emotional distress, persistent rumination, desire for forgiveness, and internal conflict… he checked all the boxes. Despite all that, Aaron was able to recover from it and think logically about what had happened.

"This is a normal response from someone relatively normal in a situation very anormal…" Aaron muttered and then took a deep breath. "No one can blame me for fighting for my life. Literally, no one. Not even the aspects or the people of this world."

Aaron took some other deep breaths and cleared his mind… there was no time to have a mental breakdown. He was a man of science, and he was too old for that… perhaps not, but he had better things to do aside from that. The first one was probably to rest and eat something and then invade the city at night.
