Chapter 40 - Civilization (2)

Aaron looked behind and saw some other spears suddenly approaching and almost stabbing him. He jumped forward and dodged them.

The green men become one with the field, their bodies blending seamlessly with the grass, their presence known only through the faint rustling of grass and the whisper of a gentle wind.

"I thought that Silent Step was similar to that… but I was wrong… they can do the same thing as those fish," Aaron furrowed his eyebrows.

Actually, they could do it way better than them since they could become invisible while walking. They would only reveal themselves in the final moment when they used all of their speed to attack.

The enemies moved away while keeping their encirclement and then began to disappear one by one. They noticed Aaron's surprise, and it seemed that they wanted to use that against him. At least they had no idea that he was from another world… anyone with half a brain would connect the pieces and assume that. Or maybe it was just Aaron's scientific bias.

"Morons, do you think that this alone is enough to get me?" Aaron furrowed his eyebrows.

Aaron's perception was good enough for him to feel the presence of everything around him, invisible or not. They wouldn't be able to surprise him that much if they had a useful technique, but the difference in skill was high… unless they threw the spears at him again.

In the end, Aaron grabbed one of the bodies, and then his mood darkened. He didn't want to do that, but he didn't want to die either… he was making all sorts of excuses in his head to act like a barbarian, and while all of them made sense, he didn't like them. Again, he was a man of science; he was supposed to do better than that… better than those who almost didn't have two brain cells, causing some synapses to occur.

When the enemies got close enough, Aaron cut the throat of one of the bodies, and a lot of blood began to gush from the wound. He got some inside the horn and then threw it ahead, drenching a bunch of enemies in blood and revealing their bodies.

They looked as surprised as they could be, and they flinched thanks to it. In the meantime, Aaron used that chance to approach and kill them. The other soldiers tried to help them, but that only caused their camouflage to be undone… before they could approach, Aaron threw the spears of their allies at them and hit their heads. Some of them were killed instantly, while others only suffered some wounds, but all of them stopped moving.

In the end, those guys were no match against Aaron. They began to quickly lose their discipline and will to fight once they realized that… Still, Aaron saw a bunch more of enemies approaching and crossing the gates. That battle wasn't going to end anytime soon.

"I am able to fight them, but I will use too much stamina if I keep doing things like throwing spears… I guess everything that isn't thief-like will do that," Aaron thought while seeing the enemies creating a proper line to face him.

The enemies wanted to use tactics now, war tactics… that made sense. They could tell that despite his skill, Aaron wasn't that experienced… he was doing a lot of unnecessary movements, and sometimes, he would delay his reaction for one reason or the other.

"I see… their posture is like that while pointing their spears, and they keep their legs away from each other from the same distance of one meter," Aaron thought white, studying the enemies. "That truly helps when they need to be quick or when they need to attack with all their might."

Aaron copied their stances and then tried some moves. He quickly noticed the difference in results… his body felt a bit better, and he barely could feel his hesitation or anything else getting in the way. When the enemies were twenty meters away from him, Aaron charged with all his might and crossed that distance in less than a second.

Before his target could react, Aaron jumped and then landed on the target's shoulders, and then stabbed the back of his head. The soldiers nearby tried to stab Aaron, but he jumped forward again with all his might and then landed on the back of the enemy's formation.

Aaron attacked them from behind mercilessly. They didn't have the chance to react at all because such old tactics also had some demerits. They tend not to react well to situations that they haven't been trained to deal with. Another was the reliance on frontal assaults and bad communication on the battlefield.

Many battle strategies focused on frontal assaults, often trying to break the enemy lines by sheer force. These tactics resulted in high casualties, as soldiers had to face a wall of spears, shields, and other defensive measures. The lack of innovative strategies to outmaneuver or flank the enemy often prolonged conflicts and made battles more costly.

Communication and coordination on the battlefield were challenging during the medieval periods. The absence of advanced signaling methods or efficient means of relaying commands made it difficult for large armies to synchronize their movements effectively. This resulted in disjointed attacks and decreased overall battlefield efficiency.
