Chapter 15 - Beasts (3)

Aaron didn't need a fire for the night, and he had a cloak for his horse so they would survive the night without fire.

After a couple of hours, the area was completely dark and silent. Still, Aaron was unable to relax enough to make him fall asleep. At least he was resting his muscles, and he was used to doing that on the nights that he couldn't sleep, but that was mentally taxing and could cloud his judgment. He would need to be in his best physical and mental shape to make sure that he won't make mistakes before he meets the leader of that country.

"Come to think of it, the queen only mentioned two countries… it is hard to imagine that for the past five hundred years, no kingdom or other state was formed," Aaron thought. "This world doesn't seem that small since it had twelve hours long days and nights…"

It wasn't the first time that Aaron was in the middle of a job, and he had a lot of questions that were bothering him. Still, this time, he felt that things weren't as simple as before… the situation seemed weird to him, even though he was someone who was crossing the universe inside a meteor.

Analyzing data and coming up with hypotheses was one of Aaron's strengths, but he wouldn't have time for that. All of a sudden, the armor changed, and he noticed some bloodlust in the air… it didn't take long for him to suddenly see some shadows approaching him from all directions and already in the middle of the mountain.

"They came out of nowhere… I guess it would make sense that they would pay me a visit at night," Aaron thought once he recognized the dark hounds. "Now I get why this place is so quiet… they either killed or devoured everything that wasn't them."

That was kind of scary… Aaron didn't think that he would be able to find such a lifeform on that planet. The dark hounds were like wolves; they hunted in packs, and that pack had more than one hundred of them. That was going to be an excellent addition to Aaron's forces. Maybe if he splits his skeleton knights around to hunt those things, he will be able to convince the leader of that place to work with him. At the very least, Aaron's soldiers would be able to fight to the death with him since they were already dead and didn't have to fear it.

The dark hounds began to climb the mountain extremely fast, and then the skeletons assumed positions to surround and protect Aaron. The number of skeleton knights was still small, and against that number of monsters, Aaron wondered if he should level them up… but in the end, he changed his mind.

When the first beasts were fifty meters away from Aaron, he suddenly attacked them with Bone Swords. The weapons flew even faster than before, but the beasts still had time to react and try to bite them… they regretted that since their piercing power destroyed their teeth and eventually pierced their mouths and made them bleed to death.

Aaron made the bone swords reach level ten, and that was the result. Still, in the end, he focused on just attacking a single side of them while he used his skeleton knights to split on the other sides and deal with them separately.

"Their coordinated attack smells fishy to me… let's hold back and see what will happen," Aaron thought.

The skeletons held themselves well, and Aaron only helped the side that only had the ordinary ones. He imagined that the beasts would try to escape after a while, but they fought to death until the last man or beast. Their behavior was making the situation even more complicated…

"The number of ordinary skeletons decreased, but the number of skeleton knights increased even more… this is probably for the best since the skeleton knights will make my army look more dangerous," Aaron thought. "Regardless, after this, it is hard to imagine that if they are being controlled, they will come again…"

Aaron's guess was right, and another attack didn't take place in the mountains. If they were wild creatures, it was hard to imagine that a pack of the same size would be nearby since they wouldn't find many things to hunt and eat around the area.

Despite that, Aaron didn't have many chances to close his eyes and take a few naps during the night. His skeletons now would be able to solve any problems for him, but his mind didn't want to stop working.

It was a bad habit of his, when he found a problem or a question that would bother him for quite a while, until he knew that he was on the path of solving the issue or when it was no longer a real problem.

As Aaron stood on the edge of the mountain, he watched as the sun began to rise, casting a soft orange glow across the sky. The clouds hung low, obscuring much of the view, but the light that shone through them created a beautiful, eerie atmosphere. The shadows of the mountains were still dark, but as the sun continued to rise, they slowly began to lighten and reveal their rugged edges. It was a peaceful and mystical moment, one that Aaron will always remember… because it might be one of the last ones that someone will see in that world.
