Chapter 6 - You're Our Son!

Alec looked at his father's approaching figure, shocked by the way he handled the demon. He never actually expected his father would be doing something this honorable and amazing.

"Are you alright?" He asked, a little worried.

From the start, his father was sent flying, slamming into the ground. Even though he managed to defeat the demon, it doesn't change the fact that his father was a human who would feel pain even if he stubbed his toe, much less crashing into the ground in such a manner.

"I'm fine, Alec." Ammon smiled at his son, "Do you think this is my first time?"

Alec thought about it and shook his head. This was not the first time he had heard of his father going out to exorcise demons. Well, he never expected the demons would be this powerful.

He shook his head and looked at the driver, "What about him?"

"He's lucky." Ammon turned to the driver, he looked at Alec's face and seeing his confused expression, he explained, "The demon that possessed him had to heal him first before it could use him. So, being possessed could be said to be a double edged sword. Of course, that all lies on the fact that the demon had no plans of killing him."

"In some cases, the demons would never allow the body they possess to go freely. If the exorcist is not strong enough, then the demon would be able to destroy the body before leaving. Although rare, it happens."

Alec nodded in understanding, this was a bit too much information for something he was just being introduced to, but he didn't mind since it was more exciting than having to sit in school all day and learn about things he didn't feel would be beneficial to him.

Compared to others, he had always had a different feeling concerning a lot of things. He felt there was more to the world than the normal everyday life, and now, his intuition was right.

'Mayve this is what I'm supposed to be doing, not going to school, and certainly not spending time with those clowns.' He said to himself. Of course, he didn't dare to say it out loud since his father would most likely scold him if he said anything against going to school.

The driver soon came back to his senses, "What… what happened?"

He looked around, a lost expression in his eyes.

"Huh?" Alec was once again confused by what was happening.

"Didn't…"

Just as he was about to ask if the driver didn't remember when he tried to kill everyone, his father placed a hand on his shoulder and shook his head before whispering.

"He won't have any memory about what happened."

"Oh, why?" Alec asked.

Ammon looked at Timothy and motioned for him to handle the driver so he could speak with Alec.

"There are two ways of possession for demons, one is when a human or the body they choose to possess is at its weakest, or through the feelings and desires of the person."

"The driver was close to death from the pain and the loss of blood, the demon was able to use his body as a means of coming from the Underworld, entering our world."

"Once it possessed him, the driver lost full control and feeling of his body. If the demon was exorcised, the possessed person would lose any memory of when the demon was in the body."

"But in the case of feelings and desires, once one gives in to the temptation of letting the demon in, their strength would be better utilized and the person would be well aware of whatever is happening."

Ammon took his time to explain the process of possession to Alec, he knew how curious his son was, so, to escape multiple questions, he had to tell him a few things.

"So you're saying if a demon comes in with the permission of a person, it would show more strength than the one that comes when one is at their weakest, right?" Alec asked.

Ammon nodded, "Pretty much."

Alec nodded, "But what about the demon I saw? The one that crashed our bus."

"Those are low leveled demons that managed to find a way into our world." Ammon replied, seeing Alec's curious eyes and chuckled and said, "The Underworld is full of demons, but it's not as prosperous as our world..."

Demons of all levels stay in the Underworld, and they wanted to come into the human world to rule. The human world being better than it made it even more attractive to them. However, there was a ruin set up to restrict the ways demons can enter the human world. Low leveled demons don't find it too hand to cross over from the Underworld to the human world when they find a connection point. A few times, some stronger demons can pass through those points.

In most cases, it is extremely difficult for a powerful demon to get through those connection points, as they might destroy the passage. Since that was the case, they decided to send more low leveled demons into the human world and use the normal method to cross through, deception. As long as a powerful demon can possess a human body and stay for a period of time, they would be able to leave that body and roam in the human world, almost unhindered.

Exorcists are the only ones who can deal with them, so they naturally avoid them at all costs.

There are places plagued by demons, unleashing curses at the places.

Alec listened to his father speak about demons and couldn't help but be thrilled at the world he was just introduced to.

"Why didn't you tell me you can see them?" Ammon looked at his son with a serious expression.

"People were already calling me the devil's spawn, I was afraid what you'd think if I told I could see strange creatures." Alec explained, peering straight into the eyes of his father.

"You're not the devil's spawn, you're mine and Agatha's son, and we love you. If your mom was here, she would give you all the love there is." Ammon embraced his son, his eyes, teary.
