Alec calmed his ragging emotion and focused on the task ahead, he knew his father wasn't playing around, with the beast behind them, he didn't dare to even think of this as a joke.
Ammon started shooting at the demon that was chasing after them. The demon was very fast, dodging the bullets aimed at it.
A bullet trailed through the air and landed on the left shoulder of the Ape, seeing it, it roared in anger and rushed after them, going even faster than what it was previously moving at.
Alec heard the roars and the sound of the Ape's footsteps getting louder and louder. When he didn't hear the sound of his father shooting any longer, he wanted to subconsciously turn around to check what was happening but changed his mind and kept his eyes on the road.
"Dad!"
"Focus on driving." Ammon said.
"The road ahead has two paths." Alec slowed down the car, not putting it to a halt.
Ammon turned to look at the road before saying, "Take the right path. The left path is too long."
"Wouldn't that take us past the Devon Mountains?" Alec looked at the large mountain range that stretched as far as the eyes could see. He didn't need anyone to tell him that place was the Devon's Mountain range, nor did he need anyone to tell him how dangerous going through there was.
Even his father would generally not want to go through that road.
"I know, but it doesn't change anything. Look, more are coming from the left path." Ammon said.
Alec didn't argue with his father any longer and increased the speed of the car, going towards the right path.
Just as his father said, there were more demons on the side, of all sizes. There were even a few that had wings. The moment they saw the vehicle going in the other direction, they all charged at it.
'This… is going to be harder than I thought.' Deacon Ammon thought internally.
He didn't know if they would attack them if they went back to the Town, and he didn't want to endanger everyone due to his son, so he opted to go to the City close to them. The City has stronger exorcists and could help them fight off a wave of demons.
This was the highest number of demons he had ever seen.
Alec drove the car, making sure to carefully maneuver through the curvy road and keep the vehicle moving. For a first-timer, he was an unreal driver. Even his father was impressed with how fast Alec was able to get used to driving.
As the car was moving, Ammon came into the car, picked up a small tin can, and tossed it at the demons.
Boom!
An explosion followed right after the item touched the demons.
The demons paused, and a few of the ones at the front were blasted to smithereens. Disappearing from view.
Alec was quite curious about the explosion, but keep his gaze on the road ahead of them.
The demons resumed chasing after them, but they had gotten a good gap between themselves and the demons, making things easier for them.
"Dad, why are they chasing us?" Alec couldn't help but ask. This was a shocking thing to happen and he never expected that so many demons would chase anyone, much less himself and his father.
"I don't know. Let's just try to get to the City. It will take only a little over ten minutes at this rate… hopefully." Ammon replied. Using the time to rest.
During the time Alec lost control of the car, he hit his ribs on the side of the sunroof, and the pain from the first fight with the possessed bus driver came up. Without a doubt, he knew he had broken a rib or two.
The demons slowly started to catch up, unlike them who had to maneuver through a rough terrain, the demons were running through the woods, slowly catching up.
Ammon held his stomach with his right hand and took out painkillers. He quickly took it before coming out through the sunroof to shoot at the demons coming close to them.
As soon as he brought out his head, he saw an Eagle-like demon diving down from the sky, its talons opened, prepared to grab his hand.
He raised the gun to shoot at it, but the Eagle dodged and its long talons sank into the flesh of Ammon's right hand.
Ammon didn't struggle with it, he picked up a knife and slashed at the legs of the Eagle. It let go after being cut by the knife and just as it was about to escape, Ammon shot it on its head.
Ammon used a cloth to wrap up his bleeding hand, before fending off the demons rushing over.
After some time, a clear path appeared before them, and the sight of the large City ahead made them heave a sigh of relief. No matter what, the demons wouldn't dare to enter such a City.
The car edged closer and closer to the large City. This was the first time Alec was seeing such magnificent buildings, and he couldn't hide his awe. However, he kept his hand steady and continued driving. The City was surrounded by a large wall, and gates on two sides.
As they got close to the City wall, Alec noticed that a few spots on the walls had cracks on them. Around the spot, he noticed signs of battles.
Ammon had gotten back into the car, "Drive straight to the Cathedral, I can get help there."
Alec followed his father's words and drove into the City, heading straight for the largest building in the City, the Kattegat Cathedral.
