Fay's POV
Seems like Dr Melendez isn't here yet. I turn to leave but I'm startled by his sudden appearance. I sigh in relief as I saw it was just him, it's like this man walks on air cause you can never hear him coming.
"As early as always" he said with a smile, a smile so charming I could feel my lips curl up but I couldn't stop it. I politely nod.
I give him space and he brings out his key to open the door. I stare at his back in awe. I don't necessarily have a crush on him but I admire him, his life style and the fact that he'd be so chill during crisis and extreme pressure, it sometimes drives me crazy.
The movement of his biceps as he opened the door made my knees weak. He had such great structure even for his age. Stone abs, desirable chest and a sharp jawline, these features are enough to make every girl drool at the sight of him.
I shake my head, no! He's engaged and at that to the grouchy hospital lawyer.
Who would've thought a charming charismatic man and a commanding and always frowning lady will be compatible.
"You having a headache?" He asked and I looked up to face his concerned look. I shake my head in response.
"I don't know how you do it, even after having such a tight time schedule and going home late you still come very early. You're unbelievable" he said while going through things on his table.
I stared at him with my eyes wide, though unbelievable is a strong word I'll take it as a compliment.
An hour later...
"Great you can finally join us" Dr Melendez said with one hand in his pocket and the other holding diagnosis. His eyes were staring intensively at Lyla's. She was late yet again.
Lyla Moore, my former college mate. We were never friends then and only communicated when necessary. She had quite the attitude and that was one of the things I disliked about her.
Strangely we both applied at the same hospital and are now competiting mates on the same team.
Honestly, she seemed to have changed a lot since then and I was beginning to like her. I couldn't have escaped it anyways, we spoke very often and most times have lunch together. Her aura was captivating and yet sober; not anything toxic and she had a very contagious laughter.
In just a few months of our first year we've become what you'd call a best friends in progress but I'm still quite secretive when it comes to sharing feelings and experiences.
"I'm so sorry I was—" she explained but was rudely cut off by Dr Melendez
"No need". He probably didn't want to listen cause her excuses were unreasonable. She looked at me helplessly, at this point the one leaving us will be Lyla.
different specialist surgeons are given carefully selected surgical residences— could be a team of five and one from the five if not as good as the other four will leave and if lucky, get a job at another hospital.
It would be a shame if that one person was Lyla, she's very lively and open minded unlike the rest. Charlotte bay was selfish and will stop at nothing to make us all loose face before her. She's cunning and crafty, it takes grace when dealing with her.
Dean Silas was rather the annoying type, he would ask so many questions and carry lots of big book around making the rest of us feel like we're stupid. He would educate us about hygiene and good foods even when we already know about it.
And lastly Morgan lewis. She looked like she used to be a dark rebellious emo girl, her apathy and ignorance for almost everything was simply spectacular. Makes me wonder how she managed to get a job here. Ridiculous.
Dr Melendez cleared his throat and began "Today you'll be put in teams to test your how well you work with other people and how well you perform under unnecessary pressure". I nod my head slowly, following his words.
I hear Morgan sigh. I wouldn't blame her, she preferred working alone and avoided company of other people. in other words she was purely introverted.
Dr Melendez handed over some papers. "Dr Louis and Dr dean you're on the same team". My face scrunched up in annoyance and irritation as I hear I'm partnering up with that Silas. Whyyyyyyy.
"Dr bay and Dr Lewis" he concluded and was about to head off.
"Wait sir!" Lyla called out in a hurry. He turned around and she met his mocking gaze.
"What about me?" She asked pointing to herself
His reply came so smooth like he had anticipated for her question "you Dr Moore you're off to scout work"
Her face dropped at his reply, nothing new exactly but at this point she'll definitely be the one leaving us. Now she'll be off arranging specimens or doing some other non-surgical related work.
Minutes later....
Being a pediatric surgeon has always been a dream of mine since little and everything I've done till today relating to that dream has only been because of my dedication and hardwork.
Silas walked before me so he opened the door to the ward. We're met with a woman sitting on the sofa with swollen eyes and a dull expression. The moment she laid eyes on us she stood up hurriedly and went to Silas with pleading eyes
"Are you the doctor for my daughter?" She asked trying to calm herself.
"Yes" he replied confidently "you can call me Dr dean".
I stare at his back with unbelief, so what am I now? His amazing assistant while he does the show work?.
I quickly corrected "I'm also—"
"You have to help my daughter" the lady cuts me off earning a vengeful look on my face but she was too concerned about her daughter to see me.
