One of the dark elves stepped forward, his face twisted with fury. "Why did you set our sacred tree on fire, beast?!" he demanded, a harsh whisper that sent a chill down Yara's spine.
She resisted the urge to cover her ears, their voices sounded like sheets of metal scraping against one another.
The dragon met his gaze with a steely calm. "How dare you trap me in your spell, elf?!" he retorted, a deep rumble that vibrated the air around them.
The elf who had spoken clenched his fists, his body rippled with magic. "We did not know you were a dragon. We were trying to protect our realm from an intruder. You could have been a spy, a monster, worst, a human."
Yara tensed as the elf's cold sliver eyes glared at her.
She swallowed, dagger clenched tightly in her hands.
This was the first time she had seen free dark elves in all her years.
