Chapter 28 - CHAPTER TWENTY EIGHT

Twigs and stones crunched underfoot as people made their way into a ruined clearing. The trees stood scorched, some charred trunks still bearing the marks of dragon fire. New growth had begun to peek through the blackened remains, tentative shoots and leaves daring to reclaim the ravaged land.

Kellan surveyed the scene, his sharp eyes scanning for any trace, any clue that could lead him to his quarry. His men spread out behind him, their faces filled with the weariness of a long and fruitless hunt. The air was thick with the scent of damp earth and ash, a reminder of the battle that raged here months before. The scent trails and footprints, once fresh, were now almost entirely washed away by time and the elements.

But that was what made the hunt exciting!
