Chapter 50
Jake Pov:
I get back to the door and find something odd. Everything this year in the school is brand new, yet there are scratch marks on the door handle. Specifically, by the key hole. Someone broke in, or tried to while we were out. "Wh—," Emma tries to say something by I stop her from. I signal for her to follow me quietly and we leave the vicinity.
"Someone broke in, the cameras are down as well. We are going to the window, I want you to watch and see if someone breaks out. Have Harper get the cameras back online," I inform her. With that I race outside as the sun starts setting. I go over to the window with a running start, and jump. I pull my arms up in a cross and crash in through the window.
Landing inside I find someone in a mask looking over at me. My desk with my computer had been trashed, my desktop was open, and they were grabbing files from the bookshelf. As I start charging they reach and pull out a gun, aiming for my head.
I dodge to the left, avoiding the bullet and flipping the table to block the bullets. I might be strong, but even I am not immune to bullets. I hear them running and I peak, they turned their back and went for the door. Sadly I don't have a gun as they are not allowed on campus. I charge, grabbing my watch and sending a signal out. This alerts the emergency services of a shooter and the school.
As they open the door, alarms go off, surprising them. They immediately turn left, seeing Emma at the one end of the hallway and we take chase. They fire at the window, breaking it, before firing back at us, emptying the mag as we bust into rooms to hide. We turn around to chase, but they are gone, thankfully the cameras are back.
"They're gone," Emma says.
"Yeah, but we might be able to find them," I say, pointing to the cameras that are on. We proceed to the security room where all the cameras are. We find Hannah there with Security.
"Did you get them?," Hannah asks.
"No, did you find anything?," Emma asks back.
"Someone jammed the cameras when they entered the building. So we never got a chance to see them. We got the cameras back on a few seconds before they left the room. They looked right at one and went for the window. Sadly that part of the building is a blind spot due to the darkness," Hannah replies.
"What did they get?," Security asks.
"They got some files in the room along with my drives I think. I will need to check the files, but the stuff on the computer is not important to me, but is to the school. It contains copies of all our reports, the councils reports, events, and so on. I have copies of the rest," I reply.
"I see, any suspects?," They ask.
"None anyone will believe," I reply. I had a good hunch on who it was, but they would blame someone else. Thankfully, I noticed they were not using gloves, meaning if they replace them, there will be residue left showing that it was replaced. But it won't be easy on the drive.
"Alright, well we can't do anything yet, send a report to the school and they will investigate. The cops will be here soon and will be wanting your input as well," They inform me.
"I know, thank you," I reply and start to leave.
"Your welcome," They respond as I exit.
Narrator Pov:
The cops arrived and got testimonies from Jake, Emma, and Hannah. They took those into account, their grades, and more and noticed they were telling the truth. They thanked them and the committee went back in to see how security was coming along with the investigation.
"Is there anything that might help us?," They asked.
"Nothing that would help at the moment. If I remember something I will tell you in the future. If I am correct the desktop is missing its drives?," Jake asks.
"Yes, is there anything about them?," They ask.
"No, but they won't be getting into them. They require a special PC to even run, and the PC is currently being Beta tested. So unless they steal one from another beta tester they won't get in. The main reason is they couldn't get on my PC so they took the drive," Jake tell them.
"Ok, you will be needing to use another room for the time being, we will be collecting stuff from this room starting Monday," They inform Jake and she nods.
"I'll let the others know," Jake responds. With that, Jake and company leave, sending a message to the other members to meet back at the truck.
When they arrive they ask, "Is this about the shooting?" Jake nods and they sigh.
"They targeted our room, stole files, and also stole my drives from the PC. Watch your PC's and protect them if you have version 1.06.491 or earlier installed. The one he stole belonged to 1.06.499 and the tech to prevent looking at the drive is 1.06.492," Jake informs them.
"Then I guess that means we are the only ones who have to watch out. The main reason being that we lived on an island and did not get a chance to update, nor here as it is suspicious," Hiccup replies.
"Well, we are going back out to where Fishlegs is. I have something to say, but it cannot be said in the open," Jake informs them and they leave, unaware of the police informing someone who is not their supervisor, the prying eyes following them, and the car preparing to follow them.
