Chapter 54
Narrator Pov:
The next day comes around and the search is set to begin. With the group meeting in the garden between the dorms, administration, and the school. "Sorry to drag you all out of your holiday today, that goes to the committee and the council. You may have heard, but yesterday the committee's room was broken into and files and hard drives were stolen. Today we will be searching for those," Charlie begins.
"We will be searching the student dorms since the height of the perpetrator was around five and a half feet. All the teachers are above 5'9 or below 5'3. We will be searching all dorms, even if they don't fit in. But no-one will be arrested, or put in holding cells for questioning. There will be one committee member for for council member. If you find the documents, call over Jake and she will confirm whether or not they are responsible," Charlie continues.
"We will search each level simultaneously, with one 2 person group per level. If there are no questions we will begin," Charlie finishes. With that they set off from there. Jake sits in the garden with Hunter, so they can get to any building required. After around 30 minutes of searching, a call comes over the radio.
"We found some of the papers in room 209 of the girls dorm, what do you want done?," Charlie asks over the radio.
"I'll be over to get the papers, but it is not the person's fault. The main reason being that they did not commit the crime. The criminal was male, not female. Haydon, stay here, if stuff is found in the boys dorm, inform me," Jake says before rushing off.
Going up to the second floor, Jake arrives at the door and crouches down to enter. Being 7' 8 does not help when entering normal sized rooms, which are around 8 feet tall. "Here," Charlie says presenting the papers.
"Thanks," Jake responds, grabbing them. She takes out the scanner and uses it, following the trail. It leads out the door and into the hallway. "This will tell us who has touched them, along with the path they took," Jake replies. Over the course of the next 2 and a half hours, 4 more sets of papers are found, totaling all the papers. 3 in the boys and 2 in the girls dorm in total.
"They all lead back to one source, where they split off into 6. We will follow the sixth trail, Haydon, take these and run them for prints. Then, take this and get the prints off of it, there should be a matching set," Jake says, taking out a schoolwork paper.
"How is that going to help?," Snotlout asked.
"Because it is Eugene's," Jake replied.
"How did you get your hands on that. Only teachers should have other students work. Plus, the incident happened yesterday night," Charlie interrupts.
"I asked the detectives," Jake replies, gesturing to the twins. Charlie face palms. They follow the trail to the parking lot. "It seems that they took it in a car from here. We're getting in the truck," Jake informs them and they go get his truck. Hiccup and Astrid's computers got updated last night so they don't have to worry about them.
As they follow the trail, they notice that they stopped at one point to pick up someone. As they continue down it, they begin to realize something as they see it veer off the road. Eugene had been in the car following them, so he had been responsible for the police getting called on them.
"Well, I guess we should continue following it. Charlie, can you phone Stoick and in—," Hiccup begins, but is cut off as Hunter gets a call.
"What is it Fish?," Hunter asks. He hears stuff over the phone, and his face goes dire.
"Haydon?," Jake asks.
"Get to Dragon Electronics ASAP!," Hunter yells. Jake doesn't even stop to argue or asked why he yelled. He saw the desperation on Hunter's face and put the metal to the pedal. Within seconds they were going more than 120 MPH. Jake had modified the truck to go over the speed of a Ford Raptor. It could take heavy loads and be just as fast.
The ran down the road and into the city, breaking many traffic violations. As they arrived at the store, 3 police cars in tow, they saw smoke and people stealing stuff from the shop. With that, Jake and Hunter share a look. "Emma, take over," Jake says.
Hunter hops out the door, as does Jake his, and they get onto the hood. They pull out the handguns they had been holding onto and begin firing. With that the police fire at them so they jump off. The intruders do the same, at the same time, more and more police arrive, along with government agents.
Jake and Hunter are pinned down, along with the intruders, and all are arrested. "You have a right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law, you have a right to talk to a lawyer and to have them present when a police interrogates you," An officer reads to them. When Jake had Emma take over driving, it was also a signal. To drive away as fast as possible, and go to the only safe location on the island that they knew of.
