Chapter 5 - You... who are you?

"Does that mean I am Daniel's enemy?" Yeon Jin asked himself but paused. "Wait, that man isn't Daniel." He told himself and just then, thumping sounds, resembling that of heavy footsteps, were heard approaching the room door. "What's that?"

The doors suddenly burst open and a menacing air seeped in.

Standing at the door was none other than the tyrannical prince, Beric.

His eyes searched through the room till it fell on the untouched food, then, they traveled to the maid at the side and then to Yeon Jin whose eyes were blindfolded.

Beric scowled his eyes at the sight and once again, he snapped his fingers, hoping that what had happened in the cell was just a trick of the moment and that there was nothing wrong with his powers but like before, nothing happened.

The spy was sitting still, unaffected and unharmed by his powers.

Angered, he aimed for the maid at the side, severing her head from her body before she could even react. After which, he threw the sword he had used on the maid to the floor.

Though Yeon Jin's eyes were covered with the strap, he could still see. He didn't know how but it was very clear, almost like there was nothing hindering his vision at all.

Shocked by how Beric suddenly killed the maid, he wanted to react but before he could, Beric was already standing right in front of him.

"You." Beric's voice rang as he took Yeon Jin by the collar and lifted him into the air. "What sort of entity are you? How did you manage to nullify my powers?"

Yeon Jin felt his air ways being blocked as Beric tightened his hold on the collar. This guy was raising him past his knee level just by the restraint collar alone so he felt out of breath.

"Ack." He held Beric's hand, hoping to at least push him off but Beric was like an immovable rock. 'This guy... Does he really plan to kill me this way?'

From the side, Yeon Jin could see two servants taking the dead maid's corpse away and closing the door silently in order to avoid instant death.

"Tell me how you did it." Beric demanded and Yeon Jin's eyes went back to him.

His purple eyes were beaming with rage and a thirst for blood. He really meant it. He wanted to kill him.

"I don't... Urk, know what you... Are talking... About." Yeon Jin managed to say.

"Tell me now." Beric demanded even more fiercely.

'He is so stubborn. At a time like this, I can't help but point out his similarity with Daniel.' Yeon Jin thought. Even in death's claw, he couldn't help but think about Daniel.

And this, very much, reminded him of his first encounter with Daniel. A gun pointed at his head, ready to blow his brains to bits and his overconfident attitude when snatching the gun from him.

Daniel did not expect someone like him to suddenly snatch his gun, and so fast at that.

'Yes, if I want to escape this, I'll need to go all out.' Yeon Jin thought and when Beric least expected it, he struck.

Beric had his mind wondering how someone from the holy empire had that sort of power. If they had it all along, they would have certainly used it to bring him down a long time ago.

He imagined all the scenarios. Were they keeping their hidden weapon safely so as to strike when he least expected it? Or was the aim of sending him here especially for this?

But how dumb could they be? Even without his demon powers, he could easily overwhelm such a small guy with his strength alone. And he was one who had never undergone a Knight's training, no doubt.

'Look at how he's struggling. He doesn't even have the basic training of a Knight. People of the holy empire are stu... ' His thoughts were immediately interrupted when his face met with Yeon Jin's knee in a split second.

Stunned, he found himself on the ground while Yeon Jin coughed out.

"Damn it." He swore, grabbing onto the collar. "This stupid collar... My throat's all sore."

He looked over at Beric who was still recovering from the shock of being overpowered.

He looked like he had seen a ghost as he watched Yeon Jin standing to his feet. This was the first time in his entire life... Before and after he possessed his demon powers, someone had been able to knock him down.

"You..." His words broke. "Who are you?"

Yeon Jin looked at him and tilted his head. Was a good kick in the face all it took to crush his ego? Well, whatever. As long as he didn't go around...

Yeon Jin's thoughts were hanged when Beric immediately tackled him to the ground, strangling him with his bare hands.

"As expected, it's best to end you immediately. Nothing good will come from having someone who can nullify my powers live."

'Is he crazy?' Yeon Jin thought, barely struggling to hold on. How was he going to get out of that situation now? He was in an unfavorable position.

Beric took out a knife ready to slit his neck but Yeon Jin resisted, holding his wrist with all he had.

"S..stop." Yeon Jin yelled but Beric had this murderous look in his eyes that made Yeon Jin instantly realize that words would never get through to him. 'He is a lunatic.'

Yeon Jin had one hand clutching on to Beric's hand which was strangling his neck and the other, holding on to the hand that carried a deadly knife.

'If I let go of this hand,' referring to the hand on his neck. '...I might be able to knock some sense into him.'

Beric, driven by the voices inside his head, had all the right reasons to end the life of this spy beneath him. But how... How was he still holding on? His power, strength and prowess were second to no one yet he couldn't handle this little guy.

"Stop struggling and die by my hand." Beric said.

"Hear yourself speak." Yeon Jin said, his eyes squinting behind his nearly loose blindfold. "Who'd want to die in the hands of a psycho?"

The struggle continued and Yeon Jin finally got the upper hand. He let go of Beric's hand on his neck and punched him right in the face, giving himself room to flee from beneath him.

He quickly stole Beric's sword which was lying on the floor and pointed it at him.

With unsteady breaths and a firm stand, Yeon Jin asked Beric,

"Now that tables have turned. Would you be willing to die by 'my' hand?"
