Chapter 9 - The Breakfast

Early Morning of the Second Day.

When Alexander woke up, Isabella was still asleep. He propped himself up on his arm, sat up, and looked around the dimly lit room. He picked up the remote control and opened the black curtains.

Sunlight flooded in, illuminating the sofa.

"Ugh~"

On the sofa, Isabella turned over, facing the sofa with her face, trying to avoid the sunlight. She reached out her hand to touch her body as if searching for the blanket to shield herself from the sunlight.

Alexander glanced at the blanket that had fallen to the ground at some point, then looked at the drowsy Isabella. He played with the remote control in his hand and showed no intention of closing the curtains.

On the sofa, Isabella gradually woke up from her dreams, slowly opened her eyes. The glaring sunlight made her instinctively raise her arm to shield her eyes, taking a while to adjust.

She sat up slowly, saw the blanket on the floor, picked it up effortlessly, and then looked at Alexander in bed. She smiled, "Good morning~"

The sunlight cast a golden glow on Isabella's body, her radiant smile, beautiful face, like a pure and innocent angel descending to earth.

Such beauty made one want to claim it for oneself.

Alexander's gaze slid past her cheek, suppressing the momentary restlessness in his heart.

Isabella, unaware of any abnormality, walked over, helped him up, and settled him into the wheelchair.

Alexander glanced at her again, said nothing, and wheeled himself to the bedroom.

Tsk tsk tsk~

Use it and throw it away! Who knows who asked her for a massage last night.

However, she didn't mind. He was just a patient.

Half an hour later, Isabella came out of the bedroom after finishing her preparations, and Alexander was already sitting at the dining table, having breakfast.

She walked over and naturally took a seat, glanced at the items on the table: two slices of bread, two cups of hot tea, and a few slices of cheese.

She was a bit surprised, she remembered that the Bennett family's breakfast variety was quite rich.

But, of course, that was the memory from the main building.

She looked at Alexander, a bit pitifully.

Alexander sensed the gaze beside him but showed no reaction.

These so-called family members initially made some superficial efforts, but later they couldn't even be bothered to do that.

He was used to it.

When the time was right, he would naturally get all these back, a hundredfold and more.

However, that didn't mean he was ready to accept another person's sympathetic gaze right now.

Alexander put down the bread, controlled the wheelchair, and went to the study.

"Hmm?" Isabella looked at the departing figure, somewhat surprised. She looked at the slice of bread left on Alexander's plate, nearly half of it was untouched.

She frowned and asked the maid beside her, "Did Alexander eat anything else?"

The maid replied cautiously, "No, Mr. Alexander has always had a small appetite."

Isabella looked in the direction of the study, picked up a dry piece of bread, took a bite, and nearly choked.

This bread was dry and hard when it without cheese slices.

Had he been eating like this all along? No wonder he ate so little.

Were the people in the Bennett family all reduced to this level?

Isabella couldn't understand Richard and Margaret. Even if Alexander was currently mentally impaired, he was still a blood-related nephew, right?

How could they do that?

She put down the bread.

To be honest, Isabella was quite concerned about her own tastes, and she never liked very dry bread. Even with a couple of bacon slices, it would be better than having nothing.

She stood up, went to the kitchen, a spacious kitchen with all the necessary utensils, but it was too empty. There were only various kitchen tools and no seasonings, as if it had never been used.

She walked to the side, opened the refrigerator, and indeed, it was empty.

Isabella sighed deeply, closed the refrigerator, walked out of the courtyard, and headed towards the main building.

She knew where the kitchen was over there. She would like to check if there was any food.
