Shin was right—there was a blockade on the entrance to the city. He glanced at it from a safe distance, then did a double take. In the light of the rising sun he could see it clearer than ever.

The vehicle was surrounded by several smaller machines and a group of soldiers mixed with the police. Shin didn't stay to see how long it would take for them to notice him—he merged with Tetsu and entered the city through narrow side roads.
He had left his cumbersome items together with his car, protected by Firewall. Its defense would've been welcome in a fight, but it was even more important for his things.
Shin paper rats were already in the city, moving back and forth, signaling about pathways where they spotted enemies: more patrols of police and soldiers. Shin planned to avoid them all at first, but then he had an idea.
