Chapter 5 - (005) Haste

Hello.

Sorry I haven't posted anything so far, I just haven't felt like writing.

I do it as a hobby so it ends up not being my priority, apart from havinglittle time and all. But that's what happened.

To be honest, I'm a very dedicated person, but I lack 'motivation'.

If you want to help me, just comment and rate the novel, seeing that people are following the story and liking it is very gratifying.

By the way, if you want to know more about the creative process or want to help with it, join my discord server.

That's all there is to it.

And another good year to you.

2025 babys.

[Monday - 15th - January - 2018]

As I enter the building, I see an environment with which, unfortunately, I am very familiar.

The reception desk in this building is very simple and small. There's a large counter behind which sits the receptionist and in one corner there are some chairs for people to sit on - it's right by the entrance door.

On the left there are toilets and on the right there are two elevators and the stairs.

The receptionist is a pretty young woman in her mid-20s.

Her fair skin and short black hair are remarkably well groomed, her face has a little make-up on and her dark brown eyes have large false eyelashes.

Even without make-up, the woman can still be considered beautiful.

She is carefully painting her nails and tidying up, while occasionally fiddling with her cell phone.

"You're 30 minutes late. The director won't like that," she says without even looking at me. Her arrogant tone is really annoying, reminding me why I, and many others, don't like her.

Ignoring the woman's words, I got into the elevator and went up to the floor where my sector is located.

When I got to my floor, without wasting any time, I headed towards his office.

*TOC, TOC*

Taking a deep breath, I tried to calm myself for what was to come before speaking to my former boss.

"Come in," a hoarse voice said from behind the door.

...

...

...

It was anti-climactic, nothing just happened.

I don't really know what I expected, maybe I thought they were going to kidnap me and force me to work or not allow me to resign, but nothing happened.

It was normal.

I simply said I wanted to resign, after which he gave me the document to sign. He reminded me that I wasn't going to get anything and that was that.

I think that because of this new supernatural in my life I'm expecting nothing to be normal, that at any moment the government will break into my house and kidnap me and experiment on me.

I really hope this doesn't happen, despite my thoughts.

While I was thinking this, I was walking, almost to the bus station.

Along the way I was stopped twice by people trying to drag me into their stores.

Do I look like an easy target or something? It's not possible that only I get stopped every time.

I certainly won't miss it.

With a small smile, I turn up the music in my ears as I enter the bus station.

...

To be honest, the basics of programming aren't as difficult as I thought.

I watched about two videos to understand what programming is and a summary of its history.

History is important, because then you understand the 'why' and 'how'.

Programming is nothing more and nothing less than rules given to a computer, telling it what to do, how, when and so on.

Although it's easily explained, what it is isn't as simple as it seems, since the person receiving these rules can be seen as a child. We have to tell them in detail what to do with simple, easy rules for the computer to understand and repeat.

Programming languages, on the other hand, can be said to be the way of teaching and how the computer will understand certain words. That's why there are several and some are said to be more practical and easier than others.

In addition to this theoretical part and the history of programming, I also learned the basics of the basics.

Searching the internet, I saw that it usually takes about 3 to 6 months of study to learn the basics of programming.

But one way or another I think I'll be able to shorten this time to 2/3 weeks or even less if the two bodies work on it.

Obviously this is based on what I've learned so far and on guesswork. At the moment I'm learning everything on my own with videos and practices on the internet, maybe in something more advanced I can stagnate.

'Kael is coming' I think as I look at the clock on my notebook indicating that it's currently 14:10.

Another thing I realized was this: I'm not going to be able to study with this computer.

Looking at the computer, which has been loading a series of basic Python commands for about five minutes, it's hard not to notice.

I've got a bit of money saved up, and I hope it's enough to buy a decent piece of equipment, which would speed up the process a lot.

For now, all I can do is use this computer until I get a new one to solve this problem.

...

I got home on time and on the way I searched the internet for some computers to buy.

Unfortunately I don't have enough time to wait for delivery from another country, otherwise I could pay a bit cheaper.

As it happens, I'm in a race against time to get an income now that I've resigned.

Besides, school starts next month, so I should take advantage of it now that I have time to spare.

I only have 800 reais that I managed to save after 1 year of work. I hope that's enough to buy a decent computer.

Unfortunately I don't know enough about computer parts, so I'm going to watch some videos and look for more offers from nearby stores where I can buy.

After arriving home and having coffee with Alfa, we continued doing our thing.

While I was watching videos on the internet about which computer was best, what each part was for and cheap stores, Alfa was studying programming.

It took about an hour for me to decide which computer to buy.

I ended up buying the individual parts from PitsNet, a computer store, and hiring someone to assemble the computer.

Unfortunately it will take 2 days to be delivered, but that's as much as I can avoid spending without having to wait any longer. If I had more time available, I could order directly from China, but it would take more than a week at least.

Fortunately, this way I'll be spending 600 reais on the parts and 100 reais minimum for someone else to assemble it.

I could assemble it myself and bring the cost down to 50/80 reais by buying the necessary materials, but it's a bit risky as I might accidentally break a part due to inexperience, so it's better not to.

At best I'll have 100 reais left over and at worst I'll spend it all. It's certainly better to have some left over, but I won't be losing out in any way.

The month's shopping has already been done and I've already paid the rent, we're halfway through the month so I still have food for the rest of the month.

At least I hope so, since now there's Alpha in addition to me.

So I decided to see what I had and whether I could last until next month.

Well, it turns out there's another problem.

I only have food for two weeks and no more money.

So it looks like my already short deadline of one month is going to have to be cut even shorter.

Which changes my plans drastically.

It looks like I'm going to have to spend a few sleepless nights.
