Chapter 2 - And only you

The night for Lorain was long and unbearable, each moment a reminder of the unbearable weight crushing her spirit. As she roused from a restless sleep, her body ached, and the dark circles under her eyes bore witness to the profound lack of rest. In a desperate attempt to cling to a semblance of routine, she reached out for her phone, as if hoping for a miracle in the depths of her despair. Yet, the universe had yet another cruel twist into her story and was unwilling to let her be until she was laying lifeless on the ground.

The plain reality unfolded through the merciless glow of her screen, delivering a devastating blow. The news headlines blared, broadcasting another round of the unthinkable betrayal the two people she once loved gave her: "Chris Williams just announced his Girl Friend, Jane Jones."

As this caused the morning commission. The world seemed to blur around Lorain as if reality itself were warping. She recalled vividly how Chris, once vehemently opposed to their relationship going public, had professed his desire for their love to be an intimate haven, shielded from the prying eyes of the world.

"Chris honey why don't you announce me as your girlfriend I am tired of leaving in the shadows and all the girls chasing you around. They need to know you belong to me."

"I want our love to be ours and not for the world. I don't want you to get the pressure of being my girlfriend from the public."

"Please think this through I am only caring out for you, and I promise I will forever love you and you only."

Lorain's face contorted with pain at the recollection of his promises. Crying her lungs out, but the world couldn't be crueller, a new wave of disbelief crashed over her as she learned that Jane Jones, now the girlfriend of Chris Williams, had ascended to the throne of "Fashion Beauty," a company Lorain had poured her heart and soul into building from the ground up.

Vivid memories surged through Lorain's mind, replaying the moments when Chris had pleaded with her to sell and let go of the company, she had worked so hard for. He had painted a future where she need not toil, where the mantle of Miss Williams granted her a life of unblemished beauty and luxury. "I am the man of the house, so I should be the one doing all the work around here. All you must do is be pretty," he had insisted. And now he was saying she is a good for nothing just because she is not working. And she never knew who bought her company. But now it downed her who did it.

In that moment of betrayal, Lorain felt the urge to vomit blood, as if the very essence of her being was rejecting the reality thrust upon her. She had willingly left her company, confident in the love and promises Chris made to her. Also, her family was not poor even though they were not that influential, thinking she was exchanging one fulfilling life for another. Little did she know, the foundations of her world were built on dishonesty and betrayal. It was still a mystery to Lorain why they did this to her.

The pain intensified as she grappled with the realization that her entire life had crumbled into ruins. Chris, her beacon, and motivation had not only abandoned her but orchestrated a precisely planned betrayal. She questioned how long they had schemed to pull to pieces her life, to strip her of purpose.

Curling into a ball on the bed, Lorain wept, revisiting the echoes of a past where Chris had fervently pursued her. "Please Lorain, I beg you. I promise to love and cherish you forever," his words reverberated in her mind. The promises of eternal love and happiness, now shattered into a million shards of heartache.

Amidst her tears and the agony of betrayal, Lorain vowed to herself, "I'll surely get my revenge. This is a promise."
