In the heat of her fury, Lorain launched herself at Jane, only to be halted by a stern and familiar voice that cut through the chaos "LORAIN!!".
Chris, the perpetrator to her pain, stood before her, a cold presence that arrested her actions. Tears welled up once more as Lorain pleaded, "Chris, see what she did? She's trying to ruin my family; she wants to make my father's business go bankrupt, Chris please stop her."
A bombshell dropped as Chris confessed, "She did it under my orders." Chris declared coldly. Lorain recoiled, the words a slap to her already wounded soul. "These are my parents we are talking about here, their joy."
She desperately hoped that appealing to Chris's sense of family joy might rekindle the compassion she once knew.
"Why should I care? They are not my parents," Chris responded indifferently and the cold in his voice sent shivers down her spine. The betrayal cut deep, leaving Lorain bewildered; this was not the man who once revelled in her parents' love. "I'm just trying to build my success, Lorain. If it means getting rid of some pets along the way, that's not an issue. I will do what means that is necessary."
Undiscouraged, Lorain stated, "I won't let you do that. That business is the source of life for my family. Over my dead body." Not while she is still alive, she will let this happen to her family.
Jane, indifferent to her pain, mocked, "What can you do, Lorain? You're pathetic, no use to your family. You don't have any influence to back you up; how will you help them? You might as well go sell yourself; you have the most beautiful face and body." Truth be told, Lorain was a rare beauty with long black silk hair and her big, expressive eyes held a depth that seemed to invite one into the soul of an enchanting mystery. Her figure seemed sculpted with the precision of an artist's hand, transforming the ugliest garments into couture master pieces, but she refused to let someone degrade her. Fuelled by rage, she attacked Jane, unleashing her fury.
"Stop it, Lorain!" Chris shouted, the slap across her face echoing a betrayal Lorain couldn't fathom. Jane, now sobbing, begged Chris to intervene. "Honey please do something".
"Lay another finger on my fiancée again, and I won't just bankrupt your family business; I'll make sure your whole family ends up in the streets."
The word "fiancée" pierced through Lorain's shattered heart. shattering any lingering hope Lorain had of reconciliation, leaving her feeling utterly defeated, she realized she had lost everything, including her ability to help her family.
"Dave throw this thing out of here and also make sure she never sets her feet here ever again or you will lose your job and make your life miserable". How did Chris get so heartless.
"Let go of me, let go," in her attempts to get free from the strong hands she got hurt in return as Dave forcibly removed her from what was once her home, the weight of her newfound helplessness pressed down on her.
In the aftermath, Chris berated Jane, questioning her inability to fight her own battles "Can't for once fight back instead of crying". He despised dependency, asserting, " After all I don't want people to say I married a vegetable." Jane, angered by the insult, attempted to manipulate Chris with feigned tears, "Chris you are so cruel" Refusing to fall for tactics "Just be useful to yourself and fight and stop being such a cry-baby, I am leaving and please don't bore me".
"Chris, you are forgetting something," Jane warned, a hint of an ominous undertone lingering in the air. The tension between them set the stage for a tumultuous turn of events.
