Chapter 8 - When did you...

Whispers of students reached my ears.

The class contained only one commoner and a few lower nobles. The rest of them were relatively high-ranking people.

Lower nobles already created a circle for themselves, talking to each other, while high-ranking noble students were in smaller groups or alone.

"Woah, isn't that 4th prince, Gabriel Celestia? Rumors weren't an exaggeration, they even lacked the strength to describe his dignity."

"Shh, don't point your finger at the prince, idiot. Do you want to get beheaded?"

Golden hair and red eyes. They were the signs of Celestia royals, hence, the 4th prince was also carrying them. The dignified appearance, confident steps, and his light blue mana, which was a sign that he reached to the ranks of Adept mage at that age, were all plus points for his future supporters.

'He is so much different from two years ago. If he continues to be like this, he will be an obstacle to the crown prince and the ambitious crown prince will surely eliminate him.'

I already met all of the royals of Celestia Empire, which I am serving right now. So, there was no way I didn't know what Gabriel Celestia would look like.

But it was still surprising to see such a change.

"Ah, saintess' every step, her whole presence feels holy. I think I fell in love..."

"What are you talking about, idiot? Do you want to get burned to a crisp by overprotective inquisitors?"

The Saintess was the same as when she was reading a book under the tree.

She was entirely clad in white. White priestess robe, under the robe a white shirt, and white smooth pants.

As if the words 'holy' and 'white' belonged to her.

Her calming presence, an ever-kind smile, golden eyes that peer into the soul, graceful movements, and beautiful appearance.

She was like the personification of benevolence and kindness.

However, she was still a human, and like every human, she too must had a dark thought or two.

I wanted to read the Saintess' mind to see what is her real thoughts that are hidden behind her holy and kind image. However, I wasn't sure if it was safe or not. She wasn't just random nobody that I could read her mind but the saintess of God of Light.

I read many people's minds, even the royal family of Celestia but that was it. Even though they are royals, they are still human. However, behind the saintess was a mighty god. She wasn't someone I could immediately decide to read her mind.

However, It was too early for me to risk my life for just worthless curiosity.

'I will pray for a blessing from Mother if I need to read her mind.'

"Hmm...?"

While I was observing the Saintess, she turned her head towards me and threw a warm smile, which was different than her previous smile that was thrown at other people.

'I guess she knows me somehow and has a favorable impression.'

"Woah, the executioner didn't even move by the saintess smile. Is he even human?"

'Yes I'm a human, you little bastard. You are just an idiot to fall over a simple smile just because she is beautiful.'

After internally cursing at the nameless mob, who was talking about everyone like a commentator, I slowly gazed at the first row.

There three royals of three different kingdoms were sitting side by side.

They were respectively, the second prince of Albus Kingdom, Nedrak Albus, the third Princess of Dalinnor Kingdom, Sera Dalinnor, and the third Prince of Sevuri Kingdom, Elyas Sevuri.

Albus, Dalinnor, and Sevuri Kingdoms had been in a cooperative relationship for a few hundred of years. And if I remembered correctly, these three royals had been friends since they were children. What was the term? Ah...childhood friends.

Childhood friends. What a novel thing. I didn't have any friends let alone childhood friends when I was a kid. My parents were rather strict with me.

'Well, there is no use in thinking meaningless 'what if' questions.'

I turned my gaze from the respectively red, green, blue-haired, and eyed trio to the back row, where the last person I needed to babysit was.

A heiress of a dukedom of Neladrik Kingdom. Isabelle Rose of Rose Dukedom.

The heiress had long black hair, black eyes, and a murky presence. She was directly sitting at the side of the sole commoner of this class with a neutral expression.

She seemed like a trouble. Big trouble at that.

The heiress Isabella Rose had similar eyes Hi as mine. The eyes of the killer, a murderer, a human butcher.

Her every movement was akin to a blade that was sharpened to perfection. All of them were calculated and perfect, a bit too perfect for a human. Beating of her heart, breathing, blinking of her eyes, even the small motion of her lifting her pale, delicate hands to tuck the hair that had fallen on her face behind to her ears.

As if she was a golem with a few sets of actions to imitate a human.

'Well, she actually managed to deceive many people but not me. Sometimes being too perfect is a mistake as well. As a Chief Inspector and an experienced observer of human nature, there is no way she can deceive me.'

The main question was, what was this woman? A golem? A demon worshiper? A real demon? No, maybe a devil...

When the word 'devil' passed my mind, I subconsciously gritted my teeth and clenched my hands into fists.

'Kill! Kill! kill! Slaughter all of the devils, tear them to shreds, not leave a single one of them alive!'

A memory that I buried in the dark corners of my mind surfaced with the thought of a devil being here. My emotions got out of control and my thoughts ran rampant.

'Deep breaths. Take a deep breath and close your eyes. Imagine your most happy memories and immerse yourself.'

With another surfaced memory I buried two years ago, I managed to recover my calmness a little, but not so much.

'I don't have many happy memories, Calista, how can I calm down entirely while you are the one who defiled those little bits of memories?'

Bitter feelings rose and my heart ached.

'Why?'

I asked myself while knowing that it was a meaningless question with no answer.

My nails pierced my palm and crimson blood dyed my hands and then dripped onto the floor.

Even remembering Calista was enough to make me lose my composure. Even after death, she was playing with me...

"Big bro– Caelum?"

A soft, worried voice came from my side.

'This is the second time someone has gotten close to me without my notice... What? Was she about to say ''big brother''?'

My head reflexively turned to the direction of the voice and my eyes caught a young beautiful woman with long golden hair and amethyst purple eyes.

She was someone I knew for a long time, someone dear to me, my sister. Her previously cute appearance was no more as she somehow grew up enough to reach my chin while I was away.

"Seraphina?"

My mind went blank when my eyes landed on her eyes.

"Yes, that is me, Caelum. What happened to make you so angry?"

Seraphine Achard, my little sister whom I hadn't seen for the past six years. Normally, I would pull her over a restaurant to speak for a long time but this thought didn't even cross my mind.

'Why do you have the same eyes as me, Seraphina? When did you become a killer?'
