Chapter 9 - Can you?

My mind was in chaos for a moment. However, when I carefully looked at Seraphina's amethyst eyes again, I regained my thoughts.

Seraphina's eyes were undoubtedly the eyes of the killer, however, they were still pure enough. There was still a chance.

"What are you talking about? I'm not angry." I answered her previous question. I was sure that I kept my facial expression in check, so it was a wonder how she knew that I was angry.

"If you don't want to say it, don't say it, Caelum. But wait for a minute, I will call a priest."

'Priest for what?'

"Go and take a seat. The professor will be here soon. We can talk later." I dismissed Seraphina's worries. What was a priest going to do? Counsel me or something?

"But..."

Seraphina pointed my hands.

"You are bleeding."

"Hmm?"

'Oh... It seems my nails pierced my palm while I was lost in anger.'

The bleeding wasn't serious, if it let it be, it would stop naturally in a few minutes and the injury would flawlessly heal in a day or two. The loss of blood wasn't much either, just a few dozen drops. It wasn't something compared to the injuries I received in the past, but it was still enough to make Seraphina worry.

But the thing is, I wasn't good with most magic that interacts with the body. Hence, healing magic or sleep magic was extremely inefficient and painful for me to bear. And Seraphina knew this.

Yet, Seraphina wanted to call a priest for this very minor wound. It would be reasonable to call a priest if my life was about to be forfeited, but if I didn't count the bleeding on my hands and the cursed thing on my back, I was remarkably healthy.

'Did she forget?' I wondered. It was plausible. She was just 12 years old when I left the house for the military, and now she is an 18 year old grown woman. It was a whole six years, it was normal to forget...or is it?

'But, can you even forget your brother's special physical condition?'

'Is she giving me a hint about something she can't say? Or did she really forget?'

These were pointless questions that I didn't need to ponder for answers. All I needed to do was to read Seraphina's mind.

Usually, I refrained from reading minds. It wasn't because I was respectful towards their privacy but it was for my own good.

All people had at least one or two dark secrets and unique trains of thought. And as a mind reader, I saw many people with twisted thoughts that I got sick of it. Some of them were my friends, teammates, or subordinates until I witnessed their minds.

I cleaned up a few of the disgusting bastards on the spot when I glimpsed disgusting crimes in their memories.

Sent some of them to jail or for execution and lastly, I put a distance between me and the disgusting-minded people that was still tolerable. Their disgusting minds were just thoughts, fortunately, they didn't put into action.

So, not reading the minds of every person I met was a must for me to live in civilization.

Too much curiosity would make me withdraw from society. Some things were better to not know about it rather than knowing it. After all, ignorance was bliss.

However, Seraphina wasn't included in this principle of mine, she was different than these abominable guys. She was my sister whom I grew up together in the cold mansion while leaning against each other.

Even if she became repulsive-minded like those guys, I would still stay by her side. It would be my fault as a big brother if she lost her innocence in the absence of me, leaving her alone in that house.

"It is not something you need to worry about it." I simply said and tried to send Seraphina to her seat. "Go and take a seat."

"But–"

"No buts. It is meaningless, look, it healed already."

I lifted my hand and showed my palm. The blood was still there but the wound was no more.

"See? Now go."

Seraphina's eyes widened with shock after seeing my perfectly fine hands. She subconsciously lifted her hand to touch my palm to if it was real or not but I didn't let her and put my hands into my pocket.

"Go to your seat. The professor is coming."

With that, I managed to send Seraphina away before she noticed the illusion magic on my hands. After all, healing to perfection in a short period of time was impossible, even with my special constitution.

Even now, drops of blood were dripping into my pockets, but fortunately, I knew how to not let the scent of blood front my pocket. As for the blood on the floor, I quickly cleaned it with a basic water magic

Being a mage was such a convenient thing.

Creak

Step step step...

The door of the class opened and a professor came inside.

The whispers of students stopped immediately after they noticed the professor. Their attention was on the professor, while the professor's attention was on me.

After all, I was something like an assistant professor in the class.

After the talk with the principal, I learned that I was going to help the students of this class to prevent any kind of serious injuries caused by them being amateur mages or knights, plus giving some tips once in a while.

'Actually, don't I have higher authority in the class than the professor?'

This thought proved to be somewhat right as I could see that the professor's eyes held a certain amount of animosity. However, the fear in his eyes was greater than his hostility.

Then there is no problem here. I can deal with a guy like this anytime.

"Everyone!" The professor called out.

"Caelum Achard of the Inspection Office will temporarily be guest in your classes as an assistant professor."

'Why are you even emphasizing the ''temporary'', idiot? I'm not after your position. Do you think I'm too free to be an assistant professor for decades?'

"Please give him a warm welcome and don't hesitate to ask your inquires to him."
