Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 - Returning Scout

The rest of the guards in the City Hall drew their swords.

"Aww, this is not fair," Kiel complained.

Damien simply waved his left hand and the rest of the guards stood down.

Bah, act cool,

Kiel drew his Miao Dao from his ring.

Damn. This looked so embarrassing.

His sword, standard Miao Dao, looked well worn and a bit dilapidated.

Damien's sword was looking new, shiny, glowing, gem studded, wider, longer, two edges and bigger guard.

NO I'm bigger…. Maybe . . . . .

While Kiel was distracted. Damien swung his big sword towards his head.

Kiel cursed under his breath, ducked and rolled backward bringing his sword up just in time to block the sword coming down.

CLANG….

Fucking Mass x Acceleration = Force. That explosive speed multiplied by that big man plus big sword mass produces a brutal force. The force of the downward cut almost broke his stance.

He parried the blow and rose to meet the big man.

Angling his sword from a blind spot to poke at Damien's right armpit.

Damien simply lowered his body and my sword glanced against his shoulder guard. Then he brought the pommel of his sword towards Kiel's head.

Kiel stepped forward and headbutted Damien's nose. Hearing a nice crunch.

Sensing that Damien's arms were closing around him in a bear hug, Kiel ducked and pushed him away.

After stepping back, he pushed forth with his foot and put his sword against the neck of the slightly disoriented Damien who was still bleeding from his nose.

The atmosphere of the room dropped to the freezing point.

The guards around seemed to want to charge forward to defend their Lord, but at the same time afraid that any false move would spell his demise.

Kiel then calmly removed his sword, stepped back and sheathed it.

Everyone heaved a sigh of relief.

Smiling, Kiel bowed.

"Now I have shown enough good will, can we talk?"

Growling Damien snorted and said:

" What do you want to talk about? You marched into my hall, attacked my guards, my son and I. Then you bloodied my nose and put a sword to my neck. Is this good will? I should have you arrested and killed!"

Kiel simply smiled:

"A lot actually. And let me correct you, I danced into your hall. Only, lightly hit their head. Tripped and accidentally hit your nose with my head… and to protect myself from your big scary sword then I can't help myself and stick my sword forward. Could have been much worse you know, but it wasn't so bad was it?"

Unimpressed, Damien barked

"Spit it out"

Kiel was quiet for a little, debating to make a wonderful story or just be out with the truth. Well truth should prevail this time as the situation was so outlandish he had no way to make up a story for it.

"I was sent here by the gods. This city will be destroyed by the orcs if we do nothing. I was considering how much effort I should put in or if I should bother to try to save the city at all."

Everyone's faces went ugly and some turned pale.

A minister shouted.

"Hubris. There has been no orc sighting for the past 100 years."

He simply ignored the guard and looked straight to the Lord.

"They will come over the mountains. In 6 months. Do you believe me?"

"And why should I?"

The Lord asked.

"Your head would have rolled. As the loser, you should listen to me."

Kiel said plainly. As soon as he said that, he could feel the cold permeating the surrounding and he quickly raised his hands, smiling like a fool, he raised both hands and added:

"Just kidding"

He seemed to see everyone stumbled there for a bit.

Regaining his serious mood he added:

"You don't need to trust me, nor should you trust me."

Looking around, Kiel seemed to see a big question mark above everyone's head, and he could see Damien was losing patience.

"Go check yourself. I"m too lazy to persuade you. And I don't need to prove anything."

Immediately, Damien bark out order to summon his Chief of Guards:

"Argus"

"Yes, my Lord"

Damien continued:

"Send a team of scouts over the mountain. Use two or even three yaks per Scout. I want them back by the week and report any findings of Orc trails"

Then he turned to Kiel:

"You better be telling the truth"

And walked away to tend to his bleeding broken nose.

Not missing a beat, Kiel called out

"Umm, you got a nice place for me to crash? I just arrived and got nothing on me."

He looked down at his sword and sent it back to his ring then looked up and grinned.

Kiel could see Damien's veins bulging on his temples

"Send him to the guest chamber"

Kiel clapped loudly:

"Long live Lord Damien!! Woooot!!!"

Then he followed an unwilling servant to his quarters.

It was a spacious room, with a nice bed and a nice window overlooking the city.

Taking advantage of the situation, he called for a bath. To his surprise they obliged.

So he soaked inside the tub in comfort then got dressed to have dinner delivered to his room. Guess the Lord really did not want to see him, suits him fine.

Everyday, he would practice his basic katas in his room. Then basic push up, sit up and even run around the city perimeter. He knew he had plenty of time and before doing anything. He should gain some credibility to make things much much easier and painless.

The week was long and eventually he was called to the hall. The scouting team had returned.

It was not a pretty sight, two men, pale faced, trembling and hunkering down in deep terror.

The hall was filled with nervous murmurs.

Kiel had remembered seeing a group of ten scouts leaving early the second morning he arrived.

But there are only two who had returned….

This seems like bad news.
