"Go out with me!"
"But why? We had only known each other. Why would you go out with a persona non grata like me?"
Bruce frowned as if he disliked Evily calling herself that.
"I have trust in my taste."
Evily finally allowed some sort of emotion to slide onto her emotionless face.
After some time, she gave a bitter smile.
"You've known my situation. I have just broken up with my boyfriend. We've known each other for four years and yet the trust is as thin as a rake. We've just met each other; what makes you trust that I'm the right choice?"
Bruce raised an eyebrow.
"You're comparing me to the scum?"
Evily was once again surprised; her eyes blinked lightly before she broke out in laughter uncontrollably.
Bruce stared at her bright smile, the depths of his eyes glittering.
"What are you laughing at?"
Evily's laughter slowly faded, replaced by coldness.
She took a deep breath and continued, "You're the Director of KOAL Corporation, and you're from one of the prominent families in D City. I'm a country pumpkin who doesn't even have a real family."
"So?"
Bruce raised his brows and asked casually, "Don't you like me?"
"I…I think that we are not compatible, Mr Hudson … I don't know you and I can't even see beyond the surface level of your appearance, let alone the deeper side of you. I have yet to recover from it and if I were to enter into a new relationship now, I'm afraid that I might be too hard to deal with, which is also a form of disrespect to you."
"I welcome you, Miss Evily to discover the deeper side of me anytime," Bruce replied.
Evily found it hard to communicate with him.
"Sorry, I have to go now," Evily said before she rushed out of the room.
The next moment, she noticed he was following her. Having no idea of his intention, she ignored him while quickening her pace.
She halted her steps and instinctively looked up, her eyes met his cold gaze. Inexplicably, she became a little fearful of him. "Mr Hudson, is there anything else?"
Her phone rang at that moment. Evily gave an awkward look at Bruce.
Bruce noticed Evily's change of expression, and his eyes narrowed. Evily bit her lips and rejected the call, but her phone started ringing again almost immediately. Evily frowned and stared at the phone for a long time.
Suddenly, a huge hand reached over and took her phone away. The man's voice rang above her head, "If you don't want to answer it, then don't. It isn't good to hesitate."
Evily was startled when the man took her phone away. Bruce raised his brows at her suspiciously, "You're reluctant?"
Evily pursed her lips in displeasure. She didn't know what Bruce was implying, but ever since Alexandar had cheated on her with Amelia she had already given up on that man. "No!"
"Really?" Bruce snorted in disbelief.
"It's none of your business." Evily started annoyed.
-----
When Evily was about to get out of his car, Bruce stopped her. Evily's hand that was holding the handle stilled as she turned to him. "What's wrong?"
Bruce narrowed his eyes. "How long would you need to further consider it? Give me a rough estimation."
Evily's lips twitched in slight annoyance. "A month."
"No, that's too long. I'll give you one day!"
"You… I'll need a minimum of two weeks."
"Three days."
"One week. That should be acceptable, right? I'll only finish my current work after a week."
"Fine!"
Evily was rendered utterly speechless she was so furious that all she could do was laugh at how ridiculous it was.
"How can you be so sure that I'll agree one week forward? What if I reject you instead?"
"You'll agree. You didn't reject my kiss, did you?"
Evily protested, "I was being forced!"
"Haha!"
"What's the meaning behind that laugh?"
"Nothing."
Bruce locked the doors and shifted in his seat to better examine Evily, as though he found her entertaining. The calmer he was, the more uncertain Evily felt. She turned her head to hide her face and tried to open the door. To her dismay, Bruce had already locked the doors. The woman was exasperated. "Mr Hudson, Is there anything else?"
"No!" He unlocked the doors. When Evily heard the audible click, she immediately opened the door and ran away without saying goodbye.
Evily rushed back home and closed the door before sliding to the ground, panting heavily.
Her cheeks were already blushing. It would seem obvious to anyone who witnessed her shy look that her heart was fluttering at this moment. All she could think about was Bruce's face and his charmingly charismatic voice…
Shit!
She checked her appearance in the mirror. The blushing woman that stared back at her was unfamiliar to her.
She had thought that she would be devastated and heartbroken. After all, her family and the person she held dear to her heart had joined up to betray her. But in reality, it only upset her for a moment before she realized Alexandar wasn't her everything. He was no sun – there was no reason for her to orbit around him.
