After Mr. DelaRoy departed, everything became a haze and was challenging to follow. All Cali could remember was Nik putting her in his car and driving them to Brooklyn. Even though he tried to comfort her by talking to her in the car and kissing her hand, she could not comprehend what he said.
When she wakes up on the bed, it takes her a moment to realize where she is. The closed drapes have made the room rather gloomy. The familiar and enticing aroma of Nik's cologne floods the bedroom, which serves to both warm and soothe her.
She slips out of bed and gets up to look for him. The anxious sensations have returned because there is such a lack of noise in the house.
When Nik sees Cali standing at the entranceway to the study, he looks up from the paper he is currently working on.
"How are you doing? How was your nap?" He gives her a grin and walks right up to her to hug her.
