Chereads / Replaying the Apocalypse! / Chapter 33 - Chapter 33

Chapter 33 - Chapter 33

As the trio made their way through the streets, Morgan questioned Leo ceaselessly on where Robin and Amber were, what they had been up to recently, and how they came across Leo.

Despite his exasperation Leo did his best to answer all of Morgan's questions.

On their way, the trio was approached by multiple individuals begging for any kind of food or water that they could provide.

Leo, without hesitation, rejected any request. He knew that the moment they gave someone food it would balloon into a larger issue.

Either someone would notice and then they too would ask for handouts or the person that had received the food would complain that it wasn't enough and they should be given more.

But the same couldn't be said for Morgan and Dan.

They were still living with the pre-apocalyptic mindset and wanted to help everyone they could so they offered what little food they had in their inventories to the people who asked.

"Please, can't you spare more?! This isn't enough!" Cried a middle-aged woman, "I have children at home, and they haven't eaten for two days!"

"You liar! You don't have any kids! Miss, please, can you give me some food instead of this lying bitch? My husband and I are really struggling!" begged a different middle-aged woman.

"What did you say you bitch?! How do you know I don't have kids! I've never met you before in my life!" screamed the first woman.

"I know because I know! Take your ugly face and personality away from here at once!" retorted the other.

"You want to fight?! Fine bring it on!" said the one 'with kids' before she lunged at the other woman.

"Please stop fighting! We have no more food! We gave the last of what we had to you just earlier. We need to leave now so could you please move?" said Dan trying to rescue Morgan from being rushed by the quarrelling women and ushering her away.

"There is no way that is all you have! Give us more!" said the first woman unable to accept that she wouldn't get any more handouts.

The woman lunged towards Morgan and Dan but suddenly found herself face planting into the ground.

Morgan and Dan looked at Leo with an astonished look on their face having just watched him mercilessly trip the woman as she charged forward.

Crying and bleeding the woman struggled to sit up, "How dare you do that to me! I'll kill you!"

"And that is why you don't help people who refuse to help themselves.

Take this woman as an example and learn for the future. The old saying, "Give them an inch and they'll take a mile." is something you should take to heart.

People like these two are a lost cause in a few weeks if they still refuse to accept the reality of the situation they are now living in.

This world is now survival of the fittest. Don't forget that." Leo said as he deftly dodged the pathetic attempts of the woman to strike him.

Morgan and Dan could only watch on astonished as Leo dodged until the woman finally ran out of breathe and gave up.

"I'm not telling you to cast everyone and everything aside, but if people come to rely on the kindness of others, they are bound to fail in this new world regardless of how much help you give them.

Now let us go. We are wasting time." Leo said before walking away.

Morgan and Dan stood there for a few more minutes, watching the woman gasp for breathe as she continued to bleed rather profusely from the deep cuts on her face.

Part of them felt bad for the woman, but she was suffering from the consequences of her own actions so they eventually cast their gaze aside and turned to chase after Leo.

"Did you see his movements babe? That guy isn't normal to be able to move that quickly and gracefully with that body of his." Morgan whispered to Dan as they tried to catch up to Leo.

Dan could only nod in agreement. He too was caught off guard by how nimble Leo was and how effortlessly he moved.

Sure, it was just some middle aged woman throwing haymakers that nearly anyone could dodge.

But Leo did it with grace and minimal movements which proved he was quite amazing.

Leo, of course, could hear the conversation of the two but simply ignored it as he continued to walk forward.

The three of them were stopped numerous times by people as they made their way through the streets, but the couple seemed to have learned their lesson and deftly dodged any requests for help.

Eventually, the trio finally made it back to the campus where a group of young men were standing guard outside the dorm.

When the group saw the trio approaching, they first got defensive before recognizing them and running up to them cheerfully.

"You guys are alive! Ah that's such a relief!" one of them said.

"Dan the man returns! I'm glad you were able to rescue Morgan!" another yelled.

"Don't do something that stupid again Morgan! At least wait for us to come back next time so someone can go along with you!" yelled a woman who was hanging out from one of the windows due to the commotion caused by the young men.

"Lilly! How is Pam doing?!" Morgan yelled up at the girl hanging out the window.

"She's fine! That stud standing next to you left some medicine here before he went looking for you and Dan." Lilly yelled back.

Morgan looked over at Leo with surprise before giving him a smug look, "So much for not giving handouts, eh?"

Leo just shrugged, "Call it a spur of the moment lapse in judgement. Unlike you and Dan, I have the strength to suppress the people who try and take advantage of me."

Morgan just laughed, "Well, whatever. Thank you for saving Dan and I as well as my friend! You have my gratitude!"

Leo only nodded in response. "Can we go now? I would like to get back to the girls and continue on with what is really important..."

"Oh? And what's really important?" Morgan asked with an inquisitive look.

Leo just rolled his eyes and remained silent.

"Tch you're no fun.." Morgan said, "Alright fine, I'll go talk to Robert. He's the de-facto leader here so if I can convince him to come along then it's likely everyone else will follow."

Morgan disappeared into the building, dragging Dan along with her.

With nothing better to do, Leo found a bench not far from the entrance of the dorm, took a seat, and closed his eyes.

After a few minutes, Leo opened his eyes to a face no more than a few inches from his.

"Can I help you?" he asked.

Lilly smiled and said, "Nope! I was just admiring how good looking you are! Hehe!"

"And do you normally get up into the personal space of everyone you are admiring?"

"Only when they are as good looking and as defenseless as you are!"

"Defenseless?" Leo asked as he glanced to the side.

Lilly turned her head slightly to see what Leo was looking at and found a knife mere inches from her throat.

"Woahhh!! How did you do that?! That's a cool knife too! Can I see?!" Lilly questioned in delight as she flitted around the outstretched knife admiring it.

Leo looked at the girl with a hint of surprise. 'Not only is she not scared, she's excited?' he thought to himself.

Having no reason to refuse, Leo spun the knife around and handed it over to Lilly handle first.

The girl happily snatched the knife and gave it a once over, admiring it from all sorts of angles.

Leo watched in silence giving Lilly a good look.

She was the definition of short but stacked. It was extreme enough where someone might question if she had artificially altered herself, but Leo could tell that she was all natural with just a glance.

She had dark brown hair, blue eyes, a bubble butt and a rack that would make any girl jealous.

"Your name's Leo, right? Morgan said you want us to follow after you. Is that true?" Lilly questioned as she handed the knife back to Leo.

"You are correct on both accounts." Leo replied.

"Is it safer out there than it is here?" she asked.

"Not yet, but it will be."

"Will be? What's going to change?"

"Everything."
