Chapter 39 - Chapter 39

Leo spent the next five minutes answering the few questions that Robin had.

Before moving on to the next person though, Leo had Robin re-summon Luminara.

When the little fairy appeared with her trademark flash, Leo gave her a stern glare before talking to her, "Luminara, answer the questions these guys are desperate to ask. Robin, Amber, and I need to talk over there for a few minutes."

"Yessir!" Luminara said with a shoddy salute. She knew she had to pay penance for toying with Leo, so she was more than happy to oblige.

Leo then beckoned for Amber and Robin to follow him.

As the three got up to leave the table, Lilly, got up to follow as well, but Leo stopped her and told her to stay where she was.

Downcast, Lilly sat back down with a small frown on her face.

'What are you? A puppy?' Leo thought to himself as he looked at Lilly with exasperation.

The three of them found a comfortable spot on the side of the lake and took a seat with one of the girls on either side of Leo.

Once the girls were comfortable enough Leo spoke, "I appreciate you two believing in me over the past few days despite much evidence to corroborate the things I've said.

It means a lot to me that someone trusts me so wholeheartedly and it makes it easier to face the things that are to come."

As he finished speaking, he reached up and put one arms over the shoulders of each of the sisters and gave them a small squeeze.

Amber just rested her head against Leo's shoulder but Robin continued to look forward towards the lake in silence for a few moments before she spoke, "Are we going to be okay, Leo? Shouldn't we have tried to save more people?"

"Whether or not we're going to be okay in the long run, is hard to say. I do know that we have at least a few more good years before you need to truly worry.

As for saving more people? Don't forget that the human population is just north of 8 billion people.

Despite the fact that we here are just a small group, there will be many pockets throughout the world where humanity makes a home for themselves and fights back against the new invaders.

No matter how strong we are, we can't save everyone."

"I see.. " said Robin with her head hung low.

"Fret not. Despite my personal view on the people, many of them, even some here in our small town, will start to stand on their own two feet soon and fight back.

When they do, I'll lend a helping hand through your sister and you as well as the group of idiots making a ruckus behind us." Leo said trying to cheer Robin up.

"You make it sound like you're going to leave us behind?" questioned Amber.

"I am or I guess I should say I will." Leo continued, "I can't expect to achieve my goals unless I push myself far harder than the rest of humanity.

The places I will go and the tasks I will undertake will be far too dangerous for your sister and you.

Fret not though, I will never abandon you two.

If you work hard enough, then it is not entirely outside the realm of possibility for you to stand equally at my side when the time comes to face off against our greatest foes."

When Leo finished speaking, silence hung heavy over the trio for a few minutes.

Leo wasn't sure what the sisters were thinking, but he himself had cast all thoughts of the near future out of his mind and simply enjoyed the fleeting moment of peace.

As the trio sat in silence and enjoyed the warmth of each other's embraces, Leo felt a sudden and not entirely foreign sensation rush through his body.

'It's started.' He thought.

Alright, I've said enough this time!

Good luck to you and do try to keep the entertainment going as long as you can this time around.. the last time was... Oops I've said too much!

Commencing Earth's Rebirth momentarily!]

After enough time lapsed for everyone on Earth to read the message, time ceased to flow forward for everyone but one man.

Leo felt as if everything around him was in some sort of suspended animation.

The water lapping against the edge of the lake was frozen in place, Amber's hair which had been blowing in the wind just moments earlier was now rigid and unmoving, the kids at the table who were arguing just moments earlier now looked like wax statues carved for someone else entertainment.

While he was observing the surroundings, Leo felt an odd vibration beneath his feet that slowly grew stronger and stronger until it felt like the entire world was about to erupt.

'So, this is what it feels like as they alter the world beneath our very feet...' Leo thought to himself.

Leo knew the gods weren't going to waste even a moment of entertainment, so it was extremely unlikely that anything that was happening was particularly dangerous, but it was still a sensational and somewhat unnerving feeling, nonetheless.

Leo wasn't entirely sure how long the process had or would take, but he was sure that aside from the perpetrators of Judgments Reckoning: Humanity's Last Stand, no one else in the world was experiencing what he was at the moment.

With nothing else to do, Leo walked over towards the direction of the clearings opening and looked off into the distance, waiting.

After a few more moments passed, a massive city suddenly appeared as if it had been copied and pasted into the world.

At the very center of the city, sat atop a small mountain was a castle that was worthy of the name.

While Leo was taking in the sight of the city, a voice suddenly appeared within his mind.

[Hello Leo. It's good to see my knight once again.]
