Chapter 4 - Fragile Creatures

Humans like her always thought they were special creatures and it disgusted him.

Taking in deep controlled breaths while exhaling with a control like no other, he gripped the edges of the drawer until a crack notified him that he was maybe using too much force on it.

Her labored breathing reminded him of how fragile and weak she was. She was like glass. Just like how all humans were. Weak and mortal.

The man pushed lightly against the drawer as it destroyed under that pressure, breaking the wall before him and having the woman whimper and shudder at what he had done.

At this point she looked at the man in fear wondering what he was to have such immense strength when he had done basically nothing to the object, yet he had shattered it without even trying.

She knew it would take her a lot of hammers and strength to even shatter the top of the drawer not to talk of the whole thing. Yet he had done so effortlessly like it was made out of wet clay.

His eyes were still closed and he opened them to see the mess he had created. This made him frown even more before he turned around to walk to the window.

There he settled into an armchair with his legs crossed while letting the sun hit him with its subtle energy.

It had been a long time since he had sat under the sun like this. It was nice to rewind every now and then.

He looked at the woman who was glaring at him with fear in her eyes as it was starting to dawn on her that he was not human but instead supernatural.

His light brown eyes glowed under the sunlight giving off a mysterious feeling about him. His dark beards bounced the light off with his skin glowing like he was under the influence of the most expensive skincare.

He gave a light chuckle which rang around the room in a terrifying way. Echoing and bouncing off the walls while returning louder and more slowly than the first time it left his lips.

She settled nervously on the side of the bed not taking her eyes off him but he did not care. She was the least of his problems.

If she would believe him to be a villain without getting to know him then that was fine by him. He would not argue with her or try to defend himself. She was a human after all. Her approval didn't matter.

He looked at her features, admiring her long legs which were showing from the covers she had on. He had seen better but he was taking a moment to admire the timeless piece before him.

She would lose the good qualities anyway just like the others before her and he would see even better as the ages progressed.

She found his eyes on her legs and instantly withdrew them, covering them up with the covers which had him chuckling.

"Do not be afraid," his thunderous voice came off with a deep tenor. It had a calming effect to it but it was terrifying to the right ears. "I'm not going to hurt you."

With the power he possessed he could easily destroy her limb from limb and break her neck like a twig but he was not that kind of demon. He had helped her earlier when she had fallen on him back at the club, he was not going to stop caring now.

His main aim was to calm her down for if she started screaming about it would not help anyone but give him headaches. Aches he did not want.

He loved how peaceful it was around him. He wanted to keep it that way.

She listened to him talk and relaxed… partially. She still did not trust him, not after that display of strength he had shown earlier.

Janet's mind started to get clear as she suddenly thought of the conversation which had led to her being in the club.

"Damn it, Jake," she muttered under her breath low enough to not be heard by the human ears, but he was not human and he heard it.

"You should stop being weak and grieving over a guy," he sighed looking out of the window. She looked at him sharply.

"How did you…"

"Your body language proves me right."

"I didn't do anything," she argued, not willing to give up. He looked at his hands without saying a word. This was the way of humans.

There was no need to lie to him for he knew everything but she was clueless and thought him to be one of the men around. If only she knew who he was.

He hated having to tell the humans his identity as he did not see it adding anything to his life.

She looked at him with the intention of knowing who or what he was. He did not seem like someone who was any different from the next male. He looked the same, only more handsome and more rude in her eyes.

She found him as someone who could give her what she was in search of and decided to take it by the horn. If they would be together she could see it being a direct counter to Jake and her best friend getting married.

"It is clear you know something about me that I don't," she stood to her feet, still clutching onto her bed cover to avoid letting go. "So I want you to tell me what it is."

"What am I? A cheap magician?" he wanted to laugh at her joke but decided against it.

The urge to let her know who she was talking to was much but she was not worth it.

She was pretty and her scent was one that drew him in but these were only but fleeting beauties and they were only for a moment.

She settled by the edge of the bed whilst keeping her distance from him.
