After Allen finished eating, William took the opportunity to ask him about what just happened.
"Hey, what was that all about? Making them call you by your last name, I thought you hated it mate."
Allen thought about it for a while before answering. "Well, I certainly don't like it, but I don't want those kind of people to feel overly familiar to me by calling me by my name. And in the spur of the moment I thought: 'If I can't make them stop making fun of my last name, why not make them be scared of it' And that's why I told them to call me by it."
"Hmm, I agree, if you can't make them stop, it's better to make them fear you." Armand said from behind his glass of warm milk and the other two laughed at the absurdity of the situation.
"So, the lion is gonna eat the snakes if they try to bite him?" William asked with a grin on his face and Allen just felt his skin crawl all over his body.
He answered back. "Yeah, why not, might as well, otherwise I might get eaten."
"Don't worry mate, you got the two of us! If they try anything funny we'll just strike back, easy as that."
"I agree." Armand added.
"Well, I don't." They looked at him weird. "I mean, not for now, it was okay this time since nothing happened, but I don't actually want to get into fights, you know? Enough detentions for a month. Don't want to get even more."
"Ah! Well, that's just perfect, if we do get detention, we can join you, easy peasy."
Allen laughed at William's answer. "I think it's enough with one of us with detention, but thank you. But we can do the same thing we did today, if nothing starts, then there's no reason for detention." A smug smile appeared on his face.
"Hell yeah! You take their wands and we point them at them."
"But what if they try to do the same?" Armand asked.
Allen just shook his head. "They can't, as I said, unless they use a spell like expelliarmus. Using the levitation charm is not something feasible because of the connection between the wand and their partner, so, even if they try to take our wands, we can just not let them." A sudden thought crossed his mind.
"What do you mean 'not let them'?" William asked confused.
"The Wand Raising charm! Of course! What else could I be talking about! You felt it, it strengthen your bond with your wand. Meaning that the more you cast it, the more your magic will be connected to it and the harder it will be to take out of your hands. Of course, we still need to be careful of other spells specifically designed to disarm you, since in those cases they really will do it. They were made to sever the magical connection between you and your wand."
The other two stayed silent for a moment after Allen finished talking.
"You sure know a lot about wands uh?"
"Kind of, it all came from the Wandlore book, I can lend it to you guys if you want."
"No, thank you, I'm okay, I think it would be better to ask you instead."
"Same here mate, I have enough already with the normal classes."
Allen just shrugged and laid down on his bed. Today was a hectic day, and Allen honestly hoped that the next couple of days won't be as tiring as today. "Good night guys."
"Good night, Allen."
"Good night mate."
Then as he closed his eyes he fell asleep immediately, not realizing how tired he was.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next couple of days went faster than the first day, whether it was because of getting used to a routine or something else, Allen couldn't tell.
History of magic was as boring as Elsie and Sophia made it out to be, not only that, it was worse. The ghost started the class at the exact time and if you arrived a second late you would miss information that might or might not be in the exams, but it also felt like it was useless information since he rambled on and on about historical figures with exciting names and backgrounds yet the Professor made it sound all dull and boring.
One of the few savings from the class was, strangely enough, the Professor itself, with Allen's eye he could see the light that formed the ghost itself. It was different from living people, the light is contained in their bodies but with the ghosts, they are the light itself, almost like when they died, their magic gave their spectral form and since they themselves are their magic, they can't use it. Or so its one of Allen theories in any case.
Another thing is how the castle reacts to the Professor. He didn't realize the first time he saw the ghost on the feast, but now, after a closer inspection, he can see a few strands of light coming out of the wall and floor towards Binns, confirming what Armand said about being impossible to exorcise him. He really is connected to the castle wards.
The connection was almost like a wand and its partner, yet at the same time different, the only similitude was how it connects and how the castle gives it magic to the Professor, treating him as a wand.
"How can you not fall asleep on his class?!" William cried.
But Allen answered back with an answer. "I guess its interesting to look at the Professor?"
"Seriously, even Armand falls asleep in the class! You're the only one who doesn't!"
"I don't fall asleep, I just… Rest my eyes from staying up late reading the rest of the books!" Armand said, trying to defend himself.
Allen just chuckled and continued to walk towards their next class.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Astronomy class wasn't as bad as he thought it would be, but Allen still had his doubts, remembering how they have to wake up almost in the middle of the night for one of the classes in the middle of the week. Not a good thing to do for children in the middle of their growth spurt.
Allen wondered why they couldn't just simply enchant their telescope to look at the sky in the middle of the day, and by the looks of it, Allen wasn't the only one wondering about it and wouldn't be the last one, since Armand asked the Professor Sinistra a question along those lines, yet he received a snarky reply about how enchanted equipment could mess with the reading of the starts and what not.
Allen didn't fully believe her and it looked like Armand didn't either, but since she was the teacher and they were only first year students, they decided to take this loss for now.
After one class in the middle of the night, barely being able to walk towards their common room, Allen swore to create a telescope that could see the stars in daylight so no one else would suffer like this. It was so weird to him, being so tired after staying up just a little late, completely different from his past life, he could pull all-nighter more than once a week, and now, he could barely stay up in class. The only good thing about the class was that he was able to differentiate between the constellations faster and better than his peers, and he could even connect the dots, or more like, he could see the dots connecting, by the looks of it, his magic helped him even in Astronomy. That didn't stop him from hating the class and waking up at midnight, but at least it was easier for him than for the others.
The Ravenclaws didn't bother thim when taking the classes with them but also didn't get close to him, almost as if they feared him. If he had to chose between being feared and being mocked, he would chose the former, he can get closer to them if he wants, but if they tried to bully him, things would be different.
As they made their way down from the Astronomy tower, he could hear some Ravenclaws discussing something intelligible, yet it catched his attention.
"-Heard he can-"
"-dless magic, are you for serious?"
"-ousin said so, he's an older student in Slytherin."
His ears perked up listening to those Ravenclaws whispering to each other. Allen almost turned back to give them a piece of his mind, but decided not to in the end. He was too tired and honestly, if everyone talked about it, it would be better for him. But it looks like someone didn't respect the rule about house conflicts stays within house conflicts.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Potions class was another ordeal to go through, thankfully, the Slytherins only have two classes with the Gryffindors, otherwise he would have gone crazy by now. They gave him a weird look the moment they arrived at the dungeons, and through the whole class, not only did they continued to look at him weird but also Professor Snape tested him in every possible way. It was a good thing that he remembered most of the stuff, and while he did mess up answering one of the questions, Snape just stayed quiet with a look of disdain in his face. Almost as if telling him that he didn't deserve to be in his class.
The rest of the session was fairly simple since it was just following the instructions that the Professor left in the black board. Allen made some notes of the potion before he started brewing it, he knew that the only reason most students in Hogwarts can even brew something during their first year is because of Snape's modified recipes, so he wanted to compare them with the ones in the book.
A thought came to his mind, why make them buy the potions books if the Professor's recipes are better and they are not even going to look through them in class? This question continued to wander in his mind until he realized that while they might not use the recipes inside, they do use the information that it provides regarding the potions, the questions Professor Snape just asked him at the beginning of the lesson were proof enough about it, though he hated to admit it, but the man was a damn good potions master.
At the end of the lesson his potion was inspected and the Professor gave him a passing grade, while giving Armand full ten points for a job well done. One might think that it's the same favoritism that Draco Malfoy received, but in this case it was well earned, even Allen could tell that Armand's potion was better than his. The light of each potion was completely different after all, while Allen's was dull and dirty, Armand had a bright shine to it. He wondered how long it would take him to reach that level.
Meanwhile, the Gryffindors didn't take so well the favoritism, even worse since they lost twenty points for their house in just a single class. All in all, not only did they look at Allen with murderous eyes, but also to Armand, as if he were the one who messed up their potions.
When they were preparing to leave, Professor Snape interrupted his thoughts. "Mr Lionheart, I expect you to be on time for detention, and I hope you can get better than a passing grade the next time I see you in my class." After he finished talking, he turned around, letting the non existent wind let his black cape float behind him.
Uh, so he does have a thing for the dramatic.
"Sorry about that, he's not usually like that, at least not with me and Draco, oh, Draco is my younger brother, and he's his godfather."
"I think I remember you mention something like that." Allen rubbed his chin. "But don't worry, I know my potion was worse than yours, I guess I just need to get the hang of it."
"Well, I'm happy as long as he continues to ignore me, Professor Snape is kinda scary." William said from behind, shivering at the thought of being called out in the middle of class.
"Ha, you'll get used to it, we don't have it as bad as the other houses." Said Allen.
"That, I agree." Armand nodded.
William put his arms around each of his friends. "Good thing we are in Slytherin, then?"
Allen just let out a chuckle and agreed with him, while Armand did the same thing. William just grinned at them, walking towards their next class.
