Chapter 16 - Gifts From the Goddess

I took a deep breath, sniffing to see if I can smell their scent. Instead, I smelled something that made my heart fearfully beat. This is the scent that no normal wolf or pack ever wants to smell on their ground. The scent was just a whiff now, but I know it will get stronger.

I faced Damon and the Queen Luna who has followed me and was expecting excited words and smiles just like earlier. "Rogues!!!" I said in fear.

Both Damon and the Queen Luna looked at me in shock, then at the forest. "Where?"

"East Border of my pack." I said with shaking voice. The border I was referring to was where the Dark Moon Pack territory ends, and an unclaimed land begins. "They're going to attack my pack!"

"You can smell them?" Queen Luna Annabelle wanted to confirm as I see Damon taking out his phone and dialing a number.

"Kaylee, listen. Lu-ann smelled rouges coming your way from the east. Inform Alpha Cain and Justine. Can you give us permission to cut through the barriers of our borders so my warriors and I can intercept them?"

I heard Kaylee speak, then Damon gives me his phone.

"Kaylee! You need to tell Alpha Cain, rouges are on their way there!" I immediately tell Kaylee.

"I have alerted everyone as we speak. Do not come here whatever happens Lu-ann. Stay there until Damon tells you it's safe to come here." I can't believe it; Kaylee was wasting time giving me instructions when they should be preparing for the rouges' arrival.

"I'll be okay Kaylee. Go do what you need to do. Their scent is getting stronger!" I almost shouted then gave back the phone to Damon as he was waiting to speak with Kaylee again.

I sniffed, at least more than five rogue scents are getting stronger. The scents were all rogues' scents but had differences that define who they are as particular werewolves.

I started to walk towards the glass doors to be able to get out of the room, intending to walk outside and be able to identify the scents and how far they are but Damon held my hand.

"You are not going there my mate. Stay here. I will be leading the warriors to the border and intercept the rouges before they are able to scatter on the pack land and create havoc."

"He's right sweetie. Let Damon and the warriors handle it." Queen Luna Annabelle supported Damon's warning.

"I have to get out to know how many actually got inside our territory. And how many are still coming in." Damon and the Queen Luna looked at each other.

"You have to stick with me, alright. And if I tell you to get back inside, you get back." I nodded, feeling safe for the very first time that I was with Damon. I cherish the feeling of being protected and the feeling of being cared for, moving with him as he held me by my waist, guiding me to the living room where the King Alpha's beta, gamma and delta are assembled as well as Damon's future officers. The door was open, and I can see at least fifty warriors assembled, waiting for orders.

As we reach the bottom of the stairs, I see the King Alpha coming down in his robe with the Queen Luna behind him.

"How much time do we have?" He asked in a booming voice. Everyone's eyes focused on me.

"Oh. Um... I think at least five of them have just breached the border and the others are still coming in. I'll know more when I get outside."

"Everyone outside then. What is the plan, Damon?" The King Alpha asked his son.

"I will go together Mark, Rick, Astor and half the warriors. Half will stay here and guard. We are not sure this could be a diversionary tactic to get to us." Damon was straight to the point and firm with his plan, and I looked at him with admiration.

We came outside and I focused my sniffing as I now smell the strong scents of the warriors standing in front of me.

"Ten have breached the borders and at least twenty more are coming near." I spoke. Getting scared for my pack.

I hear Damon giving out orders to the warriors and I see his officers shift, running to the border where I was at last week.

"You have to get in the security house now Lu-ann. The women and children are going there right now. I need you to be safe so I can concentrate on helping the Dark Night Pack." Damon talks to me as the King Alpha gives orders to the warriors left behind.

"Let me help Damon. Besides my sense of smell, I can also hear whispers from kilometers away if I focus on the smell. I can tell you about any changes in their plans from kilometers away." I pleaded with Damon to let me help. This is after all, still my pack.

Damon paused for a few minutes... mind-linking with someone. Then looked at me with urgency in his eyes. "I must be out of my mind." He said, then leads me to the forest where I passed by the previous week.

"You have to stay close to me, and if I tell you to hide, you hide, okay?" He says as we start walking fast.

He takes me exactly where I passed by last week, but we stop at a very dark, very thick bush where he gently pushes me.

"You stay here. This is a bush with mint. If you do not move at all, no one would know you're here. There are warriors all around you. Even if you here wolves fighting against each other, do not ever come out. I will leave you this phone, if you need me, or if you know anything at all, call Mark's phone." He lengthily instructed me, then went on to remove his shirt and pants to shift. Handing me his clothes as I sat by the bush.

I know this wasn't the time, but Goddess! My mate's body should be considered a deadly weapon against women. I so wanted to reach out and touch his very lean and obviously hard abs. Feeling hot and distracted, I heard the initial start of wolves against wolves, growling and snarling.

About to shift, Damon saw my reaction and asked. "What is it?"

"Their leader is hanging back. He has the strongest scent but he's not moving at all." I said still sniffing.

"You know where he is?"

"Just outside the border."

"I'll keep that in mind. We'll find out their plan soon enough." He reached out and kissed my forehead." Please do not endanger yourself. Okay?" I nodded. Speechless. Cat got my tongue? Perhaps, because I again feel the warmth of my mate's care and concern for me.

I see him leave and I stay behind the mint bush. Smelling the warriors scattered around the forest, some staying in one place, others prowling: looking for possible trespassers.

Then I focus my senses on the other side of the border. The scent of blood and sweat has now become prominent. Mixing with the scent of my pack and my soon-to-be pack. I also focus and hear the snarls, bones crackling, angry growls and heavy breathing.

I have always had this advanced gift with my senses since I was twelve years old. But I have only used it for personal use like avoiding bullies in school and avoiding addicts at home.

Now, I realize how important this gift is, thanking the Goddess that she has gifted me with this ability. At the very least, I was able to save the lives of most of my pack with the help of Damon and his warriors.

Five minutes, ten minutes pass and I stay quiet in the deserted-looking forest. If it weren't for their scents, I wouldn't believe there were warriors around. Then I smell a scent getting stronger. The scent of the rouges' leader. He was moving. I focus my senses deeply, hearing his heart beat in excitement. Why? I wonder.

Then his scent was joined by two others. I wondered why the three scents were getting strong, then faint, then strong, then faint again. Just as their hearts' thumping was also strong, then weak, then strong, then weak.

That was then I realized, they were jumping the border wires to avoid being detected as they got deeper into the pack land. Basing on the strength of their scents, they must already be halfway to the packhouse.

With shaking fingers, I dialed Mark's number. It rang, one, two three, four... they must be busy. Just as I was going to shut it off to call Kaylee instead, a hoarse voice answered. "What is it, Luna?"

It was the voice of a warrior. I can hear heavy breathing through the phone and the growls at the background. "Tell Damon, the leader is on the move. They are halfway to the packhouse. Jumping through the border wires."

"Yes, Luna. Please seat still. I will immediately tell the young King Alpha."

As he shut of the phone, I went back to seating quietly. Focusing my senses, and deeply praying to the Goddess, my information wasn't too late.
