Chapter 17 - Victory

It has been an hour already since I heard the last growl of a wolf in pain and the last I smelled the scent of a rouge. I still seat by my bush, feeling tired and weak as if I fought together with the warriors. Hugging Damon's clothes and phone, I lean by the bush and wait for Damon to come get me.

I wanted to mind link Kaylee but it seems my energy was zapped and cannot even muddle through an effortless mind link. I decided to call her instead but before I could open Damon's phone, I smelled rather than see him come near the bush.

Then I see a bloody but strong thigh, followed by Damon's face as he bends down to look at me.

I seat up straight and smiled at Damon, immediately placing his clothes on his hand as he held out a hand for them. I waited for him to put on his pants first before starting to get up. He wipes his upper body with his shirt slung it on his shoulder then helped me up, hugging me tightly. Then whispering, "We won sweetheart."

I stayed quiet, reveling in his embrace. Feeling relieved that he is alright, that everyone is alright.

"Are you alright?" he asks me.

I look at his bruised and scratched body. Colored with blood as I can smell the scent of rogues all over his bruises. "Of course, I'm not the one who had to fight rouges for another pack. Are you alright?" I said, returning the question as we started walking to the pack house. I watch as wolves run to the pack house ahead of us and look at Damon.

He looks at me back. "Something wrong?"

I was going to say he can run with his pack to the pack house and that I can take care of myself, but my mind wondered why I was seeing two of him. "Lu-ann!" I hear him call me as darkness claims me.

Damon's POV

My heart and my wolf were jumping with joy as we saw the excitement on my mate's face as she gets out of the car and gaze at the grounds as if mesmerized by it.

She was even looking at the forest as if imagining herself running around. I plan on taking her on a run with Dale, my wolf. As she still doesn't have her wolf, I'll share her my wolf. Dale would be wild with happiness if that happened.

I looked at her and she was hugging my mother in her excitement, quickly facing away as I didn't want her to see my jealousy that I wasn't the one she was hugging.

I tried to get her attention. "Hhhrrmm... Let's get inside?"

I feel a pinch in my heart as she paused, seeming to even remember I was here. "Oh, of course."

"Let's get in sweetie. You'll love it even more inside." my mother tells her.

The three of us go up to the room she was sleeping in, and I noticed she wasn't that interested as she was with the grounds and the forest though, she expressed otherwise, perhaps out of politeness.

Her steps immediately went towards the glass doors leading to the terrace going all around the house. We followed her out the glass doors. "Rogues!!! She exclaims in fear.

My mother and I both look at her in shock, then at the forest. "Where?"

"East Border of my pack." She said with shaking voice. The border she was referring to was where the Dark Moon Pack territory ends and an unclaimed land begins. "They're going to attack my pack!"

"You can smell them?" My mother, the Queen Luna, wanted to confirm and I take out my phone and dial Kaylee's number as I see my mate's eyes getting scared.

"Kaylee, listen. Lu-ann smelled rouges coming your way from the east. Inform Alpha Cain and Justine. Can you give us permission to cut through the barriers of our borders so my warriors and I can intercept them?"

She said she will immediately inform her father, the Beta of the present Alpha and then asks to speak to Lu-ann.

"Kaylee! You need to tell Alpha Cain, rouges are on their way there!" she immediately tells Kaylee.

"I have alerted everyone as we speak. Do not come here whatever happens Lu-ann. Stay there until Damon tells you it's safe to come here." I felt warm in my heart as I hear Kaylee's instructions of care for my mate. I felt like she was even entrusting her friend to me.

"I'll be okay Kaylee. Go do what we need to do. There scent is getting stronger!"

I see my mate sniff and start to walk towards the glass doors to be able to get out of the room and I immediately hold her hand.

"You are not going there my mate. Stay here. I will be leading the warriors to the border and intercept the rouges before they are able to scatter on the pack land and create havoc."

"He's right sweetie. Let Damon and the warriors go." Thankfully, I hear my mother supported my warning.

"I have to get out to know how many actually got inside our territory. And how many are still coming in." I look at my mother uncertainly, deciding if I wanted the risk of my mate, getting out of the pack house where rouges may come as well.

"You have to stick with me, alright. And if I tell you to get back inside, you get back." She nodded and I embrace her by my waist, guiding her to the living room where the King Alpha's beta, gamma and delta are assembled as well as my future officers. The door was open, and I can see at least fifty warriors assembled, waiting for orders.

As we reach the bottom of the stairs, I see the King Alpha coming down in his robe with the Queen Luna behind him.

"How much time do we have?" He asked in a booming voice. We all look at my mate and she seem flustered.

"Oh. Um... I think at least five of them have just breached the border and the others are still coming in. I'll know more when I get outside."

"Everyone outside then. What is the plan, Damon?" My father asks me what I have planned.

"I will go together Mark, Rick, Astor and half the warriors. Half will stay here and guard. We are not sure this could be a diversionary tactic to get to us." I immediately answered and I see my mate look at me with admiration. Or approval? Be still my heart!!!

We came outside and I see my mate focus on sniffing while I take the chance to give instructions to my future officers.

"Ten have breached the borders and at least twenty more are coming near." My mate says, fear for her pack obvious in her voice.

I give my final orders to the soldiers as my future officers shift, running to the border where we are to pass by to intercept the rouges.

"You have to get in the security house now sweetheart. The women and children are going there right now. I need you to be safe so I can concentrate on helping the Dark Night Pack." I talk to my mate while the King Alpha gives orders to the warriors left behind.

"Let me help Damon. Besides my sense of smell, I can also hear whispers from kilometers away if I focus on the smell. I can tell you about any changes in their plans from kilometers away." She pleads to be able to help and I pause. Torn between letting her help and keeping her safe.

I mind-link my parents, informing them that I would be bringing my mate with me.

"You have to stay close to me, and if I tell you to hide, you hide, okay?" I tell her and we walk fast to the border.

I take her where I smelled her scent last week, but I stop at a very dark, very thick bush where I knew she can be hidden and gently push down.

"You stay here. This is a bush with mint. If you do not move at all, no one would know you're here. There are warriors all around you. Even if you hear wolves fighting against each other, do not ever come out. I will leave you this phone, if you need me, or if you know anything at all, call Mark's phone." I lengthily instructed her, then start taking off my shirt and pants to shift, handing her my clothes to hug while she hides by the bush.

I was about to shift, when I saw her reaction. "What is it?"

"Their leader is hanging back. He has the strongest scent but he's not moving at all." She said still sniffing.

"You know where he is?"

"Just outside the border."

"I'll keep that in mind. We'll find out their plan soon enough." I reach out and kiss her forehead, acting natural so she wouldn't feel uncomfortable.
