Chapter 22 - Complicated Lineage

Damon's POV

I keep Lu-Ann in an embrace by her waist and kiss her forehead before following my father to his office. We have just shown Lu-Ann and the others how my room looked like after she as shifted in sleep. I knew my mate really did not believe that she has shifted while she was asleep, and I am thankful we decided not to have it cleaned up yet as it was obviously the evidence that made Lu-Ann believe.

I walk back to the office behind my father, followed by my mother, Mark and the two of the pack doctors. Dr. Cleo will be joining us later after she gets some medical files needed for the meeting.

We take our seat back at the armchairs and couch we have sat earlier on.

"Judging by what happened earlier, I think it is safe to say that Lu-Ann may have been able to communicate with her wolf before but never told anyone." My father said without preamble.

Dr. Alvin answered. "I believe, her powers manifested with her wolf but because her powers were not really tested until the rogues' attack, her wolf did not also show herself strongly."

Just then, Dr. Cleo comes in, holding a file. And Dr. Alvin continued.

"The future Luna's blood test result shows that she has Lycan blood lineage and that of something else we could not yet be sure of."

Dr. Cleo hands Lu-Ann's file to my father. I go behind my father to be able to see the file as well as Mark. I did not understand most of the terminologies, but I read the word, wolf, Lycan and unknown.

Mark and I look at each other in horror. We have bullied someone of Lycan blood. I wondered if our bullying her had an effect with her shifting and I felt guilt all over again.

"Any educated guess as to what that twenty percent blood lineage maybe?" I heard my father ask.

The three doctors look at each other before answering. "Fairies."

"Fairies?" I repeat what they say in disbelief, together with my father, mother and Mark.

Fairies are mythical creatures we never believed were true. They are said to be enchanting creatures with magical powers and are helpful to humans unless they are hurt themselves. They are supposed to be small creatures. How could their lineage be connected to a werewolf?

"That's your most probable guess?" my father asked, still in disbelief.

The three doctors nodded. "We have cross examined her blood samples with other blood sample details like the vampires, dragons and mermaids but nothing came close."

The four of us looked at the doctors in shock. Whatever we have expected was not this. Werewolf blood and lycan blood mixed with fairy blood? Whatever happened to werewolf blood mixed with human blood alone?

Can my mate get more complicated than this?

"So, what should we be expecting because of this result? Will Lu-ann be in danger? What happens when she properly shifts?

"We can only wait and see King Alpha." Dr. Cleo says, clearly hesitant of saying anything. "Her werewolf blood has the strongest effect on her as it is still the most prominent in her body. But the effects of lycan blood mixed with fairy blood can be difficult to predict."

"Will she be in danger?" My father repeated the question and we all listened.

"Lycans are almost extinct right now as we all know because some werewolves who are greedy of power have decided to eradicate them. That alone can cause ruthless werewolves to seek her out." We nodded in agreement.

"There's something else King Alpha, recent studies show that lycan blood has a special scent known to gifted werewolves who are intentionally looking for lycans, which is why they were easily spotted by lycan hunters." Is it just me or is it also Mark who gasped in horror.

There was no doubt in our minds right now. She was the target of the rogue attack. I look at my father, not knowing what to say as fear for my mate's life grips my heart.

"I think we will need to talk to her again in detail. Now that we know half of what we are dealing with, we should double our patrols and keep our defenses stronger. You can all go for now. We will commence again tomorrow if new information develops. Doctors, thank you for the thorough examination of Lu-ann's blood lineage. Directly come to me if you discover anything else."

The King Alpha and Queen Luna remained seated while we all slowly walk to the door. The King Alpha's Beta, Gamma and Delta and head warriors will be coming in later for them to plan on additional security measures.

"Son." It was my mother. " I know it may be somewhat difficult right now but try to get as close as possible to Lu-ann and observe every detail that may help us plan a security system for her. I know she still does not trust us completely and may not feel yet the bond we should be having with her as a family, so we should double our efforts in keeping her safe."

I nodded. "Thank you, mother. I feel better now that I know how you feel about her."

"Just be patient with her son." My father says as his officers enter the office.

I gladly walk to Lu-ann's bedroom. Imagining her asleep in bed. She must be tired after all that transpired earlier. I imagine myself getting in bed with her. Hugging her as she sleeps. Inhaling her sweet, magnificent scent.

I open her bedroom and my eyes automatically to the bed. I slowly walk to it. The sheets weren't even disturbed. I face the bathroom door, which was wide open. Then I remembered, she must have gone to the terrace. I remembered her first day, when she was more excited with the grounds than with the interior of the pack house. And was even more interested with the scene at the terrace than her bedroom itself.

I walk to the terrace, expecting to see her standing by the railing and looking at the forest. None. She's not here. I now feel my heart start beating in panic as I immediately get back to the bedroom. Her scent is still strong here. She must have just left then. I quickly walk to the hallway. Maybe she went to the kitchen. I mind link the pack members, asking who may have seen her just now. And I hear a lot of nos.

I now run outside, hoping she could just have gone to the grounds as obviously, she wanted to do so on the first day she came here. Nothing.

Mark and a few warriors with my other soon- to- be- officers now assemble with me at the entrance of the pack house.

Just as I was to organize a search plan, one of the warriors points up to the terrace. We all look up, seeing my mate seated on a very small space where the foundation of the lower floor of the house ended and the foundation of the terrace started. I quickly link everyone not to make any noise as I see my mate seems to have her eyes closed, arms hugging her knees to herself.

I mind link the group standing with me, looking up at my mate. Telling them not make any noise that my mate could get startled. I commanded some of the warriors to walk below the terrace where my mate is seated, and I run as fast and quiet as I can to Lu-ann' bedroom.

Why is she seating on the very edge of the terrace? Is she planning to commit suicide. Did something else happen that we did not know about?

I quickly ran to the double glass doors upon entering the bedroom.

Mark and some others are running behind me. No one makes a sound as I walk up the railing, very carefully balancing myself as I catch sight of my mate. Her eyes are still closed, she seems to be breathing calmly, for a person planning on suicide anyway. Her legs were exposed as my shirt she wore rode down her legs when she bent them closer to her chest.

I feel a pinch of excitement when I see that she wore my shirt instead of the night things my mother bought for her. But my heart still grows by the minute that I do not get her out of that little space she plunked herself in.

I slowly balance myself, holding on the post, calculating the distance of my arms to where she is seated. Can I grip her fully if I get her from this distance?

Everyone seemed to be holding their breathes as my mate still peacefully sits in her place. Eyes still closed. I hold on more tightly, step a little closer, then I quickly snatched her with my right hand. I took the two steps needed to get down to the terrace floor and feel myself loosing balance when Lu-ann starts shrieking and pummeling my chest. As I feel us fall down, I push myself down to cushion my mate from the hard ground as she continues shrieking.
