Chapter 18 - Lu-ann's Gift

Damon's POV

"Please do not endanger yourself. Okay?" I softly tell my mate, feeling guilty for leaving her here though I know she understands, and I mind link my warriors to watch over her.

I wondered about this gift she has, why we didn't know how powerful it is until now, but I pray to the Goddess, this gift would not endanger her life.

I shift and run to where my pack warriors and my future officers are trying to contain the rogues. Fortunately, the rogues are not even halfway to the Dark Moon pack house when they were intercepted by my pack warriors, future officers and pack warriors of the Dark Moon Pack.

I mind link Mark that we might be receiving an important call from Lu-ann later about the rogues we are fighting, and he directs three warriors through mind link to mind his phone, which he always kept attached to him through a customized body bag he would always clip around his legs whenever he shifted.

The phone was hanging by a tree and Mark directed every warrior fighting near it to keep their ears open for the ringing of the phone.

After a time, in which at least more than half of the rogues who crossed the border are now dead, a warrior comes near and tells me that the rogues' leader and two others are almost near the packhouse as informed by the future Luna. Jumping through the border wires so as not to be noticed. I immediately mind link Mark and Rick to follow me to intercept the leader.

Fortunately, Justine, the future Alpha of the Dark Moon Pack realized what was happening and came forward together with his future Beta. With two future Alphas and two future Betas, the rogue leader and his two officers were crushed immediately.

After the land has been declared safe, I mind link Mark to stay for the cleanup with the other warriors and left to check on Lu-ann. I knew Kaylee may have already mind linked her about our joint victory against the rouges, but I wanted to share it with her as well.

After all, she was at the center of this beautiful victory. No casualties at all on the Dark Moon Pack and no casualties on the warriors as well from the Dark Midnight Pack. A first in the history of rogues' attack.

I shift to my human form as I see the bush where I hid my mate and bent to let her see that it was me. Though I knew she already might have scented me out. I receive my jeans and shirt she hands me. I put my jeans on to cover my member but wiped my body with my shirt to wipe off my sweat and most of the blood from the rogues I have fought. I then help my mate stand up, hugging her tightly, whispering to her, "We won sweetheart."

I feel her relax in relief and I continue to hug her for a while. Taking in her scent and letting myself feel my overwhelming gratefulness that she is safe and that she is my mate. We walk together towards the pack grounds, and I feel her slow down.

"Are you alright?" I ask her.

I look at her and she seems to say something to me, but I see her trying to focus, then she slowly falls down.

"Lu-ann!" I immediately catch her before she hits the ground.

I frantically carry my mate to the pack house, mind linking my parents as I ran. Asking them to have a pack doctor in my room as my mate has fainted.

When we reach the pack house, pups, women and some warriors are still in the living room, talking about the rogue attack on the Dark Moon Pack and the victory we all had. Everyone quieted down as I came through the door, carrying a passed-out Lua-ann in my arms.

They watched as I frantically ran to my room, asking Wilma, one of the pack doctors, who was checking up on the warriors with another doctor, to come to my room.

I reach my room and see my parents already waiting, having prepared my bed for Lu-ann. Then I notice Cleo, also one of the pack doctors, waiting by the bed.

I gently lay my mate on my bed. She has gone pale, and I tried my best to remember if that was how she looked like when I came back for her after fighting the rogues or if she has only gone pale while I was bringing her to the pack house.

I stood at the foot of the bed, giving space for Doctor Cleo to check on my mate. My mind swirled with a lot of questions. Did anybody come near her while we were busy with the rogues, and she didn't tell me? Or was her fainting related to her scenting and hearing abilities? Why didn't I notice that she has gone pale? Or that she has become weak?

My mother walked to me and rubbed my back, trying to reassure me that they are here for me, or for her. That my mate is going to be alright. That they are here to make sure that my mate will not come too any harm.

"Come on son. Let us wait outside while Doctor Cleo finishes her examination." My mother tried to get me out, but I stood firm.

"We should give your mate her privacy son. And you need to take a shower. Why don't you take a shower while we wait for the result of the examination?" I looked at my father, feeling anger at myself for not noticing anything wrong when I went to get Lu-ann. He walked to me and patted my back.

"Believe me son, I know what you are going through, but this is not your fault. This is not anybody's fault. We do not even know why it happened and beating yourself over it will not help your mate at all." He gently guided me out and accompanied me to the room across for a shower.

"Take your shower son. You would not want for Lu-ann to wake up and immediately be reminded of what happened because of your smell, do you?"

Hesitantly, I went to the bathroom to take a shower. The bathroom was stocked with body washes intended for Lu-ann but I used them anyway not wanting to go back and disturb the examination.

I made my shower quick, not wanting to miss the Doctor after she has finished my mate's checkup.

I realized I didn't have fresh clothes to wear when I got out of the bathroom. With a towel wrapped around my waist, I was about to go to the hallway and wait for the Doctor to finish Lu-ann's check up and talk to her before getting fresh clothes, when the door to my bedroom opened and the doctor came in.

My parents, who were sitting at what should be Lu-ann's bed got up quickly and met Doctor Cleo who was coming into the bedroom. She bowed her head before starting to explain the result of her examination.

"The future Queen Luna's breathing and blood pressure is weak. That should only be a result of loss of blood but upon checking her whole body, I did not see any sign that might be the cause. Her oxygen level is also low, though we might not have to use an oxygen tank yet. She must have used a lot of her body elements when she used her gifts in the fight against the rogues."

I immediately felt guilty. I should not have allowed her to come to the border. "So what should we do?" I asked the Doctor.

"First option is blood transfusion to increase her blood level, and second, we inject her with your blood, young King Alpha. This will ensure that her blood will stabilize a lot faster. At that time, she might be able to wake up and tell us if this has happened before. Or if it is related to her using her gifts."

I quickly presented my blood. She could have it all if it meant, she would get well at once. "Inject her with my blood." I said while my mother rubbed my arms in support.

"I will gather the needed instruments." She said, bowing once again and went to the infirmary to gather the needed instruments.

I went to my bedroom, to put on fresh clothes in the bathroom while my mother stays with my mate lying very still and pale on my bed. My father went to his office to have a quick post "war" meeting with his officers. Dark Moon Pack is under our protection and an attack on their pack needs to be explored in detail. Why's, How's and Who's should be answered especially now that my mate seems to be at the center of it all.

I immediately got a chair and went to sit beside the chair to hold her hands while waiting for the doctor.
