Chapter 6 - chapter 6

MR WELLINGTON

Her alarm shrieked loudly, causing her to jump up in fear. She rubbed her eyes with her fingers and yawned loudly.

No, it couldn't be morning already. She murmured. It felt like she had just slept for just an hour.

She wanted to lay back on her bed and never stand up. But there were consequences.

Xander will not hesitate to sack her, because it seemed that was what he had been waiting for. The slightest opportunity to get her off his sight.

She yawned loudly, stretched her body and made little crack noises, before she headed to the bathroom.

When she was done with her bathroom business, she applied her lotion and deodorant, before slipping into a royal purple gown.

She couldn't help but admire herself in her mirror. She looked so beautiful and different.

After pulling her hair into a bun and applying lip gloss, she grabbed her bag and keys and headed out of the house.

"What the fuck!" She exclaimed when her head hit a frame standing right outside her door. She rubbed her forehead with her tiny arms.

"I'm so sorry, Ms." the man apologized and stepped aside. He had sun glasses on his face. His hair was gelled back. Kayla couldn't deny that the man that she bumped into was hot.

"Why are you on my porch?" Kayla asked, raising her head up to look at the man. He had a straight face and looked down at her as she tried to act like she wasn't scared of him. A chuckle almost escaped his lips.

Yes, she was scared. She wondered what a man like him was doing on her porch so early.

"I'm your assigned driver." He replied with a straight face, and the deepest voice she ever heard.

"Who sent you?"

"Mr Wellington."

Xander?

Her arrogant boss assigned a driver to her?

She stood in the same spot for a minute, trying to think of the possibility that the man was lying to her. She twisted her lips and folded her arms under her armpit.

"Show me your I.D." She demanded.

The man did not hesitate. The next second, he had his hand in his breast pocket and was showing her his I.D.

Kayla's eyes widened in shock, when she saw his I.D. It stated that he was a driver working at Wellington's company.

He really was her assigned driver. She couldn't believe that Xander had assigned a driver to her.

Does this mean he cared about her? She thought. Or were we just trying to be nice?

She also wondered that it might be a regular thing he chose for his personal assistance.

She realized standing and thinking of the good deeds Xander had done, might put her at risk of going to work late. So she allowed the man to lead her to the luxurious car parked in the car park, beside her house.

One thing was certain, she was going to thank Xander and tell him how grateful she was for his kind gesture towards her.

She got into the passengers seat and watched the driver start up the engine, and he drove off.

The ride to the company was smooth and peaceful. The slow song blaring from the speakers kept her at ease. And for the first time in a really long while, Kayla felt at peace.

Well, everything ended the moment the engine went off.

She opened her eyes and that was when realization hit her. She had fallen asleep and had only woken up when the car vibrated.

"We're here Miss." The driver announced with a small smile dancing on his lips. He looked like he wanted to burst out laughing.

A confused Kayla only returned an awkward smile back. She picked up her things and mouthed a thank you to the driver before stepping out of the car.

7:48am

Kayla was glad she arrived before time. At least, Xander wouldn't have a reason to yell at her. She smiled victoriously.

She dropped her things on her desk. That was when it clicked that she had promised herself to tell Xander thank you the moment she arrived at the company.

After fixing a few things and her dress, she proceeded to go over to her boss's office.

As usual, Xander's face was buried in a heap of file.

"Good morning, sir." She greeted me with the tiniest voice ever.

Xander grumbled a reply. He never raised his head up to glance at her. She couldn't ignore how her heart squeezed.

"I'm here to thank you for your kind gesture. It was really thoughtful of you to assign a driver to me. I don't know if it's a regular thing for all your personal assistants, but I'm really grateful. Thank you, sir." She finally paused to catch a few breaths. She had practiced everything and never wanted to embarrass herself in front of him. That was the worst thing that was ever going to happen to her.

For the first time since Kayla walked into his office, Xander raised his head up. His eyebrows rose up in questions.

"What?" He asked in shock. "Who assigned a driver to you?"

"You. That was what the driver said." Kayla was now in a confused state. Why was Xander acting clueless to everything she said. She was pissed at his sudden attitude.

"I can't remember sending a driver to you. Besides, who did he say sent him." Xander knew he never assigned anyone to drive Kayla to work. He was planning on, but was completely clueless about what Kayla was telling him.

"Mr Wellington."

Xander paused. "Fuck!" Xander exclaimed almost loudly. Kayla heard him too. She was wondering why he was acting strange.

"You can leave." He dismissed her with the wave of his fingers.

Kayla nodded in confusion before heading to the door.

There was only one person Xander knew could do this. The only person that was always in his business.

He was full of rage. His chest rose and fell faster than usual.

The only thing he could do at that moment was pick up his phone and call that one person.

That one person that never stopped being in his
