Chapter 7 - chapter 7

Rage

A furious Xander couldn't hold it in anymore. He was sick and tired of how his father was always getting in his business.

He knew his father was scared that he'd ruin the company, because of his reckless life. But he wanted to prove to his dad that he wouldn't mix business with his normal life, which his father deemed reckless.

Xander bit on his lower lip that it was almost bleeding. He was furious, disappointed, angry and wanted to explode at that moment.

Angrily, he grabbed his phone that was lying on his desk and immediately dialed. his father's number.

It rang twice before his father's voice filled his ears.

"Son." An excited Mr Wellington called out. He wasn't used to his son calling him randomly. And for some reason, he knew it was not to check up on him, but to yell at him as usual.

Mr Wellington was right. Xander started ranting immediately.

"I'm disappointed in you dad. You're retired and handed this company over to me, but keep getting in my business. Why can't you let me handle this. Why can't you believe I can handle everything on my own, without your fucking assistance and poke nosing." Xander yelled out his frustration. He ran his fingers through his hair and almost pulled them off angrily.

Mr Wellington on the other hand was quiet, and only heaved a sigh repeatedly.

"I have no idea why you wouldn't let me do this on my own. Don't you trust me?" Xander questioned when his father did not say a word.

"I trust you. In fact, I trust you so much, but not when it comes to handling this company."

Xander gasped in shock. His heart was broken into many pieces by his fathers words. He knew at a point he wasn't taking the company seriously, but recently he had learnt to put the company first before anything.

"Did I have to remind you that your personal assistant needed a driver?" His father broke him out of his reverie. "Or that you needed a personal assistant?"

"I was going to do that..." Xander tried to explain but his father cut him off.

"When?" His father half yelled. "Xander, you don't have to wait till I take action before you get reminded of things you were supposed to do."

Slowly, he slumped on his chair. He hated having this conversation with his father.

"I'm not supposed to do petty things like this for you, son. You have to take action and not sleep around and spoil your reputation every passing day!"

Xander's ears sprang up the moment he heard his father say that. He knew he was changing, and his father bringing that up ignited something in him.

Something that felt like anger. He wanted to punch something. Tear something down. Break something.

"Don't fucking say that to me." He warned.

"Do the right thing or I'll keep being in your business. That company is my business and I wouldn't watch all I've labored for all these years, go to waste. Fix yourself Xander. Xavier would do an effortless job than you." The line went dead immediately.

Hurt and anger was what Xander felt at that moment. It felt like his fingers' words had sent daggers to his chest.

All these years, he had been working his ass off to please his father. But, his father preferred his twin brother. Xavier. He never had anything bad to say about his 'responsible' son. And always had something to say about his irresponsible son.

Xavier was everyone's favorite. He was the cheerful type and extremely friendly.

Although Xander and Xavier were very identical twins, they had opposite personalities.

Whereas Xavier was loved by everyone, Xander wasn't. And that caused them to not like each other very much.

"Fuck!" Xander screamed with rage. His hands were shaking vigorously.

He hated being compared to his twin brother. There was a different feeling it brought. He hated Xavier. He wished Xavier never existed, so his parents and everyone would love him as they loved Xavier.

It's been so many years since he felt insecure. He had always wanted to be perfect. Perfect to please his father.

All his efforts looked like they were thrown down the drain, because his father seems to love Xavier more than he loved him.

Xander broke out of his reverie and pulled himself together. He wouldn't want anyone, especially Kayla to see him in that state.

As if on cue, a knock came up and the door was pushed open, revealing Kayla. She held a file close to her chest.

She stood there, looking like a tired child. His eyes roamed round her body carefully. He couldn't help but appreciate how beautifully structured she looked.

His eyes moved until they rested on her face. Those sea blue eyes that seemed to have put him in a chokehold. And they were staring right back at him.

For a while, he was trying not to believe that she was the lady he had sex with that night. She looked so innocent.

"Your schedule sir." Kayla dropped the iPad together with the file on his desk.

Xander blinked. Was she not just standing right there? He questioned while utterly confused.

He cleared his throat in the most awkward manner. "Thank you."

She only nodded and made her way out of his office. The moment she reached her office, she heaved a deep sigh of relief. One she had been holding, while she was stuck in her boss's office.

"What the fuck happened back there? Was he drooling over me?" She soliloquized.

She couldn't miss the way her stomach flipped as she thought of the moment. She hated the feeling that came with her thoughts. She hated that she was thinking of Xander at that moment.

After a brief sigh of relief, she took her seat behind her desk and picked up her phone.

She immediately dialed her mum's number.

"Kayla, baby." Her mum's weak voice filled the phone.

"Are you alright?" Kayla's chest tightened at her mother's weak voice. Her heart beat increased immediately.

Her mum laughed briefly. "Yes baby. You don't need to worry about me. How's work?"

Kayla felt something was wrong and her mum was refusing to tell her, so she wouldn't get worried. She was skeptical and wanted to be assured her mum was alright.

"But you don't sound alright to me." Kayla pressed on.

She's known her mum all her life, and knew how her mum always wanted to take the burden on her own. Her mum never spoke up about any battle she was fighting.

Kayla hated that part of her mum, because her biggest fear was losing her family.

"Trust me. I'm just stressed up with all the work at the bakery. I'm fine." Her mum assured her.

Although she was very much bothered, she decided to trust her mother.

"Okay mum. I'm glad you're fine. I miss you." She realized since she got to New York City, she hasn't spoken to her mother.

"I miss you too, baby. And I'm so proud of you for pulling this job off. I love you."

"I love you too mum. Everything will get better with time." Kayla assured.

"Yes, I trust God. I have to get back to this banana bread. Lily left early today, so I have to do this alone."

Lily was a middle aged woman that helped Kayla's mum at the bakery, since Kayla was little. They've become fond of her.

"Okay mum. Take care of yourself. I love you."

"I love you too baby."
