"Hey, dipshit! Where's my homework? "
Dickie was the school bully that got off instilling fear in the weaker students. He had two other guys; Joshua and Xander with him. Dickie was currently picking on Levi. He was a senior at their high school just like Dickie, Joshua, and Xander.
However, Levi was a scrawny and skinny guy who had bushy blonde hair and freckles that looked like a girl's. He was the smartest kid at the school so Dickie used him to get his homework done.
"Hey! I'm talking to you, blondie. " Dickie repeated. He always called him Blondie just to spite him. Levi hated being called that.
"Can't he just leave me alone? " Levi asked under his breath.
In his usual baggy clothes and book in his hands, Levi walked faster. Dickie was the last thing on his mind. He had bigger things to cook. Like the recurring dreams he got every night, telling him that an apocalypse was coming.
He was nothing but a commoner with no parents in power. His mother was dead and his father was nothing but a deadbeat drunk thief. Levi was weak and could not fight. He only had his brain to serve him.
He needed to make sure he survived. There was no guaranteed safety for someone like him. Of course, there was no reason for Levi to trust his dreams. However, he had had the same recurring dream for a year now.
Before he could get to where he was headed, he was grabbed from behind and flung backward. It was Xander who had done this. He didn't have the chance to get up and run. The front of his shirt was grabbed and a punch landed on his face.
He didn't make an effort to fight back because he knew he wouldn't stand a chance. Levi could barely throw a punch.
"What the fuck do you want, Dickie? "
He didn't have to mind his language. In a few hours, a bully like Dickie would not be in his mind. Humanity was going to die. Today was the day.
"I want my homework!"
Without arguing, Levi gestured to his bag which had fallen a few centimeters away. Joshua grabbed the bag while Xander was holding him down and opened it. A bunch of things fell out.
One of the many things that fell out was Levi's journal entry. Dickie took it from the ground and started flipping the pages.
"Look what we have here—a journal. I wonder what you write here. Do you write about me while you cry? " Dickie teased. Xander and Joshua laughed along with him as they made fun of Levi.
Dickie started reading and got quiet. His eyes widened the more he read.
"What's in there, man? Are there sad tales about his dead mother or how he is a sad 18-year-old virgin?" Xander asked and punched Levi just because he felt like it.
"What is this, dipshit? " Dickie was addressing Levi. He couldn't believe what he had read. If this was true and he told his father, he might stop being reminded about how he was a disappointment.
"A sci-fi movie I am trying to write? " Even Levi didn't believe the words that were coming from his mouth. Dickie had read all about the apocalypse and all the visions he had seen in his dreams.
Dickie was the son of the prime minister of Earth. Since an apocalypse had already happened, the few remaining people on Earth were united and governed by the same leaders. Aliens had been defeated and some even imprisoned.
They had powers humans had never seen before and knowledge that was far much ahead. That was the knowledge humans had used to be so technologically advanced in the year 2044.
Levi was scared. He would be killed or worse, be stuck in a lab for the visions he was seeing. He didn't want to be an outcast. Outcasts had gained powers during the first apocalypse in 2024 and they were considered abnormal and a threat to society.
Every living person on earth had been scanned for meta cells and mutant genes. Since he was found to have none, he had chosen to live in peace without exposing himself for knowing all he knew.
To Levi's surprise, Dickie burst out laughing. That meant he believed him. Levi was relieved. If Dickie told his father what he had learned, he would no doubt be captured and studied for having those dreams.
What Levi did not realize was that Dickie wasn't sure what to believe. He was going to tell his father what he had read. Levi was a weird kid. He couldn't spoil his chance to impress his father.
"You're a weirdo. Let's go guys. "
At the command, Xander landed a punch on Levi's stomach and left. Levi started coughing and grabbing his items while painfully clutching his stomach. It was today. The recurring date in all those dreams was 8.23.44.
He was going to fake sick at the nurse so he could get sent home and prepare. His plan went smoothly because he was a well-performing student. No one doubted when he said he didn't feel so good.
People always expected that he loved to go to school. Going to school was just an escape from his shitty life. Speaking of, Levi hoped his father was not home yet. It would save him from explaining where he was going with a suitcase.
He left the school as planned and headed home. The city was developed with trains above ground and skyscrapers everywhere. The city he lived in was the capital city and was named Kapitol.
Everyone was in a hurry, headed for work. Meanwhile, airguards hovered above ground but not too far up in their circular transporters that had three intertwining wheels to propel the machine. They were always scanning for suspicious activity.
Levi always thought humans themselves were prisoners of the government whether they liked it or not.
For instance, there were oppressive laws such as curfews as early as 7 p.m. Citizens worked their asses off to make a living while the government took a huge chunk of their money in taxes. People never complained because they lived in fear.
Fear of a dictatorship government that got rich off their money. There was a huge gap between the rich and the poor. The rich lived in the North of Kapitol where there were technological advancements not seen by others.
The poor lived downtown where there were high crime rates, overpopulation, and pollution.
As he was walking, an invisible screen appeared and a stunning blonde and blue-eyed woman started speaking. She looked like a model.
(Public announcement: There has been suspicious activity detected in space. School had been dismissed. We advise all citizens residing on earth to remain in their homes after picking their kids from school. Calmly do so and lock all doors.)
Shit, he was too late. He lived on the other side of town. He kept wondering how he was going to get there in time.
Studying at his high school had been on scholarship. The school was in the North and Levi lived way downtown. It was too far and he had no money for public transportation.
He ran, praying that I would get home in time. I had been right the whole time. There was an apocalypse coming.
