Chapter 4 - The system

[Yes and live as the devil/ No and die] [You have 48 hours to choose or else you will die]

What the fuck?!! Levi was shocked. The mark wouldn't stop glowing red and the screen in front of him wouldn't go away. It looked like one of those old games his father played on their old television.

Then he started laughing like an idiot.

[Is there something funny, host?]

Levi knew he had to be in a dream. There was no way something heavy coupled with the roof had fallen on him and he'd survived. Then he was taken to another planet where he was enrolled as a student to learn magic.

Then there was the screen in front of him with a blue transparent background and words written in white that seemed to be alive somehow. He had to be dreaming!!

He just needed something or someone to wake him. It all made sense.

[48 hrs 58 min 09 secs remaining. I suggest you sleep to come to terms with this. This is not a dream. ]

Now it could read his thoughts?

"That's what someone–something in a dream would say. None of this is real. I have to wait to wake up. " Now he was speaking to it.

"Is there someone you're talking to? " A guy asked from behind Levi. Although a little bigger, this one was just as skinny and unfit as Levi. It made sense that they were roommates. Although he was shorter, he and Levi looked similar.

Levi was immediately embarrassed that he had been caught speaking to himself. That was until he remembered that he was in a dream.

"I–uhh.."

"You don't have to explain anything. Sometimes I also talk to myself. "

Weirdo.

"My name is Jacob. Stay out of my way and I will stay out of yours. I am not interested in being friends with someone like you. Jacob stated, thinking he was making a smug point.

Much to his surprise, Levi turned around and started busying himself. He was arrogant and wanted Levi to beg for his friendship because he had a better physique and thought he was stronger. After all, it was unlikely that Levi would make any friends.

He was hoping they would stick by each other because they were similar but was too proud to ask. For once in his life, Jacob wanted to feel superior to someone.

Levi still had a lot on his mind so Jacob didn't bother him. Everything felt real but it couldn't be. He needed a sign that this was a dream. On cue, the mark on his wrist started glowing redder than before. This time, it was painful and he had to bite his teeth so he wouldn't scream.

He let out a low growl and sat on his bed with his hands on his head. He was sweating profusely and the room felt like it was spinning. Jakob noticed his roommate's discomfort but did nothing about it.

Levi on the other hand felt like he was about to pass out. His stomach churned and his body felt like it was on fire. His vision was slowly starting to become blurry.

"I don't feel too good…" Those were the last words Levi said before he passed out on the bed.

Jacob tried to wake Levi up but he wouldn't budge. He considered calling someone to get the fellow checked.

Then he thought otherwise. It wasn't his fucking problem whether his roommate passed out or died.

He went on with his business even as Levi shook uncontrollably on the bed. After a few moments of mumbling in his state of unconsciousness, sweating profusely, and shaking, Levi sprang out of bed like he was waking up from a nightmare.

Luckily for him, Jacob was not in the room. He got another system notification. This time, he was sure it was real life. The pain he had felt had been too overwhelming to be in a dream.

[System update: I changed my mind. You have twenty seconds to make your decision. ]

Levi's eyes went wide when he read the

content. Could the system even do that?

"No, give me more time. Evolving into a devil was a big decision. " Then again, so was death.

[Ten seconds]

"Wait…"

[Nine… Eight… Seven… Six… Five…]

Immediately after he got this notification, he started coughing with blood coming out of his mouth. His body went white and he felt like he was being suffocated. He couldn't even read the countdown anymore.

"Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!" He screamed, hoping he wasn't too late. Luckily for him, he had one second to spare. He went back to normal like he hadn't even been coughing blood seconds before.

[Welcome to the Lucifer System, host. You will go through a series of changes to become the devil]

"Like I wanted this in the first place. "

[What an ungrateful skinny bum?]

Was the system talking back?

[Would you like to see your stats?]

Levi nodded his head and a few tabs came into view.

[Which would you like to see first?]

[Basic information] [Skills and attributes] [Quests] [Shop]

Levi wanted to see his basic information first. Like the system could read his thoughts, the basic information tab opened.

[User: Levi Jackson]

[Race: Halfling ]

[Level:0]

[Experience: 0/100]

[Strength: 2/10]

[Agility: 2/10]

[Stamina: 3/10]

[Energy: 2/10]

[Speed: 4/10]

[Charm: 1/10]

His stats were so low that he was shocked. If anyone challenged him to a fight, he would surely lose.

"Why am I even a halfling? Aren't I human?"

[Halfling: half human, half demon]

Levi was getting the hang of the system. All he had to do was think of the question or say it out loud and the system would give him an answer. All he needed to figure out was why it looked like those old gaming video game stats.

He went back to the tabs and thought of skills and attributes.

[Confidence: 0/10]

[Regeneration: 3/10]

[Resistance: 0/10]

[Locked]

[Locked]

[Locked]

Again, he was disappointed. He didn't have good stats on that tab and most of the tabs were locked. His skills and attributes were not the only thing that was locked. Even the quests and shop tabs were locked.

He thought about closing the system and it just did on its own. He sighed and sat on the bed with his hands on his head. This was very bad. How was he even half-demon? What happened for him to change into this thing?

He was a good person who didn't deserve anything that was happening to him at the moment. He didn't want to become the devil. As much as he didn't believe in God, he knew that the devil was an evil person.

He stared at the mark on his wrist that looked like a tattoo wondering how it even got there. Sadly, those were questions he didn't have the answers to. The system was not even answering them either.

"All students from Earth, please report to the common room. " A lady said through the speaker in his room. He got up and left the room because he didn't want to get in trouble on the first day.

At the same time, he left his room, and Eliot did too. Levi fought the urge to groan at that. He didn't want the hassle of having friends. Those took a lot of work.

"Hey, it's you!" Eliot said excitedly.

"My name is Levi. Levi said so he wouldn't be called 'you' again.

"Nice. Let's walk together, man."

Levi nodded, and together they headed where all the other students were going.

"Do you think this planet will be any better than Earth? " Eliot asked.

"I don't see how it could be worse. "

"I don't believe that they are saving us out of the goodness of their hearts. There is something else happening behind the scenes. "

Levi was starting to like Eliot. He liked someone who could think for himself–something most teenagers never did.

Levi was looking around when he spotted Dickie laughing with other students. Those students he was hanging out with looked like they belonged. Levi guessed they were from this planet.

He looked away so that Dickie wouldn't spot him. But because he had bad luck, Dickie spotted him. Dickie started walking in his direction and Levi fought the urge to run.

It looked like he was going to be bullied even on a new planet.
