Chapter 11 - Revelations

After having that long discussion with Delphinia, I came to a new realization about the noble families in the capital. Those close to the royal family or those with high enough status seem to have knowledge about something that everyone else knows nothing about. Delphinia said she was found outside the church, which made me wonder if they knew something.

The church is seen as gods messengers and those within dedicate their very beings to him. Next to the royal family, the church has the most authority in the kingdom. Unless there is a special occasion only nobles are allowed to visit recreationally or unannounced. It's said that the members of the royal family; specifically the king, visit the church routinely. I have yet to go or see anyone go, but that doesn't mean they don't. If my hunch is right and something big really is going on behind the scenes, chances are high that the church is somehow involved.

As an observant person I decided to try and spy on the king; maybe find out a pattern in his day to day. Maybe I could find out something by watching him secretly.

"My lady what are you doing?" Lucian asked.

"Oh nothing, I'm just walking around the castle getting my steps in, you know the usual." I chuckled nervously.

"But you usually don't walk around the inside of the castle." He said.

"Well, it's a bit chilly outside today so I decided to walk in here rather than the garden." I said.

"Hmm." He said.

"How long have you been here by the way?" I asked.

"Every since I became your knight I have never been far away from you." He stated.

"Really?" I asked.

"Yes, to ensure your safety I am always near." He grinned proudly.

"I see. So even at night?" I asked.

"Of course, I stand outside your door in case you are in danger." He said.

"So when do you sleep? Don't you get tired of following me around?" I asked.

"No. My lady when it comes to you nothing is more important to me, not food, sleep, or even my own life." He said.

He looked sincere and as if he was confessing his unyielding love for me. But maybe that was just wishful thinking, and I wanted it to sound sincere.

"Well since you're gonna be around anyway why don't we go on a walk in the capital." I asked. "Without you hiding in the shadows." I said.

He looked surprised.

"I would be delighted, my lady." He said.

My spying will have to wait, going on a date; well, I guess it's not officially a date, but going out with Sir Lucian is more important right now. In fact I may be able to get some useful information out of him instead, after all his family is the closest one to the royal family. He has to know something right?
