Chapter 14 - Visit from the Church

"My lady? Please wake up!" Lucian yelled.

My eyes slowly opened as I regained consciousness.

"Lucian?" I quietly got out.

His eyes looked watery, he seemed as though he was really worried about something.

"My lady I am so sorry I left you alone for that long . I should have just came in here with you. I do t know what I was thinking." He said while hugging me close to him.

"What are you talking about?" I said. My eyes still a bit unfocused.

"When you didn't come out I got worried so I came in here and found you unconscious on the ground. What happened?" He asked.

"I don't know, the last thing I remember is walking in here." I said.

He genuinely looked concerned.

"I'm fine. I don't feel sick or like I'm hurt in any way so please do not worry too much." I said trying to reassure him.

He sighed heavily and then suggested that we go home for the day. As I worried him, I felt obliged to follow his request.

After that incident he never allowed me to be on my own again, rather than waiting outside my door at night he now waits inside and directly watches over me. Even when I have visits with Delphinia he always makes a point to be there. I still have my suspicions of him and his motives, however I don't have evidence to back it up as he is always with me. I never see him interact with anyone within the castle not even the king and queen. Which gave me reassurance but also made me more suspicious because I've noticed the knights of other royal family members engaging with almost everyone, not to mention they report back to the king. It's almost like Sir Lucian is trying to avoid the royal family. I tried to ask him about it but he'd always find a way to dodge the question.

"Huh?" I asked trying to process what I heard.

"I said that I asked the church to see you and make sure that everything is really okay." The queen said.

"But, I'm really fine. You don't need to go out of your way to ask. I mean this is such a trivial matter I wouldn't want to waste anyone's time." I said.

"Yes, but something really might be wrong. You see your mother used to randomly pass out or enter into a trance during our youths. Our parents always brushed it off saying it was nothing or not a big deal, but it always felt odd to me; especially the more that it happened." She said.

"Really? Mother did?" I asked.

I had never seen mother pass out or fall under a trance before. Naturally I had a hard time believing the queen, but I wanted to believe her."

"Alright, it seems like I don't have a choice anyway. Seeing as you've already contacted them." I agreed.

"Thank you." She smiled.

A day later the high priestess made a visit.

"Good morning your majesty." She said greeting me.

"Good morning, your holiness." I said back.

"I have been made aware of the circumstances." She said. " I request that sir knight please exit the room."

"Not a chance." He said.

"Sir, the process is very sacred so only the princess and I should be in the room for the best affects." She said.

"I refuse to leave. What if something goes wrong?" He asks.

"Are you doubting my abilities?" She asked back.

There seemed to be a lot of tension in the air between them.

"It will take all but five minutes. You can wait outside that long can't you?" She asked.

"Sir Lucian. It will be okay." I smiled.

"But your highness." He started.

"If anything goes wrong or you feel like you should come back in then do so at your own discretion. But we should allow the high priestess to do what she came here for correct?" I said.

He frowned briefly.

"Alright my lady, if you say so. But the second that I sense something off, I'm back in here." He said to me, but directed it to the priestess. He grabbed my hand and squeezed it before exiting the room.

The priestess looked at me and then sighed before a pleasant smile appeared on her face.

"Well then, let's begin shall we."
