Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: A lot to make up for

The next day came pretty quickly.

I had woken up early as I usually did. Made a light breakfast of omelet and toast for both me and mom before taking a quick shower and putting on a gray sweatshirt and dark sweatpants before heading to have my breakfast.

Mid feast, mom came down and joined me. We ate silently. Just enjoying each other's company, before I said my goodbyes and headed out the apartment with my backpack on my back.

I was now in a slightly rundown hallway of the apartment building. It had some of the paint on the walls falling out, the bulbs on the ceiling were a series of broken bulbs in most of the areas.

I had already gotten used to them. I made my way to the end of the corridor where the elevator was.

To my disappointment, the out of order sign was pasted to its doors.

"Seriously?" I muttered as I went to the fire exit. Honestly I didn't like the stairs, wait is there even anyone who likes the stairs?

If so then, they were weird.

Luckily our apartment was on the second floor so I didn't have to take a lot of stairs…doesn't mean I didn't like it any less.

The streets were buzzing with activity as people had already started moving about trying to make a living so that they could at least survive the day. As you can already imagine, the neighborhood where we leave isn't all that fancy. Similar rundown apartments laid on either side of the streets.

The sidewalk had some trash cans. Some neatly set while some had been toppled over by dogs during the night.

The walk to York Town High was approximately half an hour, by car it would probably take about ten minutes or less. I sighed as I saw a black fancy car with tinted windows pull up right beside me.

It naturally caught my curiosity as I stopped to look at it. One of the tinted windows at the back rolled down to reveal a bronze skin colored man looking at me with a pair of pale gray eyes. His jetblack hair was combed backwards and a smile was plastered on his face as he looked at me. Checking out the vehicle.

It was truly a nice and luxurious car. It looked comfortable too.

I sighed, "Being rich sure is nice." I ended up muttering under my breath.

"Hey lad you heading somewhere?" the man had a deep voice and his accent had a really deep British ingrained in it.

At this point it finally donned on me that this man had approached me out of nowhere and he was asking me where I was heading.

Suspicious

"I'm sorry sir but may ask who you are?" I asked as politely as I could. Offending someone as rich and as powerful as I assumed this man was, was never a good thing. These rich guys had so many connections that they could make your life a living hell or they could just straight up erase your existence and nobody would even think about asking questions.

Amusement flashed in the man's eyes as he saw this reaction.

"You don't need to know that." The man replied. "Now I asked you a bloody question didn't I?"

Immediately I felt myself sweat as I swallowed my saliva.

"I-I'm on my to school-York town high" I answered almost too fast.

The man chuckled. "Could you relax lad?"

"O-okay" his words did nothing to calm my nerves.

"How about I give you a ride to school?" the man offered which caused my heart to skip a beat.

Me riding a car like this would be a one in a life time opportunity. Who wouldn't want to ride in this baby.

Just as that thought entered my mind another thought came in.

This guy was a rich man and from what I recalled. My mother always did say that rich people were mostly pricks with an ulterior motive. It didn't matter how kind they were on the surface.

'Never trust those rich bastards. They use you for amusement for a while before they toss you away like trash'

Those were his mom's exact words.

Though I would have loved to ride in this fancy car, I took my mother's words to heart.

"I apologize sir but I cannot cause you that much trouble. I will take my leave" I said with a respectful bow before turning and walking away without even waiting for his response. The only thing I managed to see was his somewhat surprised face.

I took fast steps. I didn't how the man would react and I didn't want to find out just what kind of reaction he would have.

The man looked at Huey's departure from the car with an amused expression on his face. The man in the front who was the chauffeur glanced at him from the mirror.

"It seems that both the mother and son don't have a good impression of you young master" the chauffeur said. The man laughed before responding.

"It may have seemed that way but from how he looked at me. He didn't seem to know who I was" the man stated. "At first he was curious, then he was respectful and he feared offending me. But in the end when I offered him a ride he immediately shot me down"

The chauffeur could only sigh.

"He's an interesting kid but then again he does have his mother's stubbornness" the man said, more to himself than anything else. "He's also strong spirited. Ha ha ha! I'd expect nothing less from him"

The chauffeur could only shake his head.

"Come now Henry let's go back" the man seemed to be in an elated mood as the smile never fell from his face.

Henry, the chauffeur smiled slightly as he said "How can you be happy when you have just been rejected by the mother of your child as well as your child"

The man smiled bitterly. "It seems that I have a lot to make up for"
