Chereads / Marked by her rejected mate / Chapter 16 - Disappointment

Chapter 16 - Disappointment

Covering her dress, she laughed weirdly as she turned to him, while the beeping sound of the ECG heart monitor increased and started beating with a fast pace.

"Are you okay?" It was now his turn to ask.

"Okay? I'm I okay? I'm fucking mad!" she yelled at him.

"Annabelle, calm down. Just take a deep breath, and everything will be fine, okay?"

"No, Alvin, no," she suddenly began crying, while he watched, not knowing what to do.

"You brought me into your fucking werewolves world against my will, and what do I get in return? Is to be scratched by an animal in disguise of a beautiful teenage girl. She did bully late bloomers; she tried bullying me also, so I stood up for my right and that of other late bloomers. That's why I'm not supposed to be here in the first place. I tried defending myself, unknown to me that I was fighting with an animal, and this is what I get in return?" she exclaimed, pointing to her stomach.

"You know what? I hate every single werewolf I've met in this pack. I hate you, Emily and her mate, the guards and the maids, including my fucking college mates. I hate everything about this place; you need to send me back to my home!! I don't belong here!" she cried out while struggling to get off his grip.

"Annabelle, calm down, okay? I'll fix everything that has gone wrong, I promise," he assured her, but she didn't listen as she still struggled with him while crying.

"Leave me alone, I hate you. You need to send me back; I love my home, I love my daddy, please send me back to him.." she sobbed while trying to pull out the IV pump connected to the machine,

the beeping sounds irritating her.

The sobs of Annabelle echoed in the room. She cried weakly, feeling exhausted from struggling.

"Alvin let me be, leave me alone, I won't pull it out anymore," she had given up on trying to get off his grip by herself.

"Just leave me alone," she said, and Alvin released his grip on her, knowing she had given up trying to break free.

"Alvin, take me home," she pleaded, her head bowed as she stared at her bed sheet.

"Say something, Alvin, I need to go home!" she yelled, frustration evident in her voice.

"Annabelle, we'll discuss this later. I just can't do it now," he responded.

"What do you mean by you can't? You brought me here, Alvin!"

She yelled and threw her cushion at him, while he remained quiet.

"That's why I hate you," she said, and continued hurling whatever was in her hands

In a fit of desperation, she yanked the IV pump from her wrist and tried to escape, but he pulled her back to the bed.

"Alvin, let me go…. I said let me go!!" she yelled and she continued crying.

"You took me from my home and brought me here, claiming that my home wasn't safe and my life was under the mercies of werewolves, tell me Alvin what's the difference now?" she said and laughed like a psychotic bitch while tears continued rolling down her eyes.

"Let me go Alvin or else I'll do something really bad," she threatened but instead of him letting her go, he carried her back to the bed.

"Annabelle, listen to me. Behaving like this will only worsen the pain, and make your injuries severe, it wouldn't help, so please.." he urged, but she was too overwhelmed to listen.

"You know nothing, Alvin! You have no idea of how painful I am, I'm living...." Her words trailed off as she lost consciousness, falling into his arms.

The doctor had rushed into the room and administered a sleeping dose to help her rest.

After laying her peacefully on the bed, Alvin sighed out of frustration, while the doctor heaved a sigh of relief, before they both took their seats, watching Annabelle while she slept.

The door opened, and Lucas walked in with Emily.

Without saying a word, they also took their seats and silently watched the sleeping Annabelle, mourning quietly.

Leaving the family to themselves, the doctor walked out of the room and closed the door gently.

"Emily, I'm disappointed," Alvin spoke, catching her off guard. He hadn't seen her when she walked in, but knew she was there.

"I'm so sorry, Alpha. I've failed you. Punish me as you please," she pleaded, bowing before him.

"When she wakes up, she'll do unto you as she pleases," he replied, making her heave a sigh of relief.

"And she hates you also, she hates everyone," he added, and she got pale by hearing what he had just said.

He knew that she was relieved by being told that she would be punished by Annabelle, so he decided to give her a quick notice before she gets disappointed at the end.

He wanted to prepare her for the consequences.

"I'm so sorry, Annabelle," Emily said, walking to her bedside, gently removing the hair strands that had fallen all over her face.

Lucas stood by the window, hands in his pockets, and commented with a sigh, "You are so in for it, boss."

"Any escape plan?" Alpha Alvin asked without turning to him.

"No escape plan, Boss. I think you've been caught in the web," he said, while Alpha Alvin Ruffled his hair slowly, biting his lips in concentration.

Alvin responded coldly, "No one is leaving this room!" he said coldly, knowing that Lucas was about to walk out.

"Man, it's your cross so you'll carry it," Lucas said in frustration.

Alvin then spoke, authority in his voice, "it's the cross of the whole pack, so everyone will carry it, even you Lucas. If only you all had diligently prayed for me, there would have been a change in the situation, but there's no worries.

I don't think my mate is just a little mate. If anything happens to her, the pack wouldn't have another Luna, and everyone would have to live without a Luna," he said, shaking his head.

"Is she a werewolf, boss?" Lucas asked curiously, while Alvin turned to him with a frown.

"She is completely human, ninety nine percent human, so forget about her."

"Emily, you and your mate should look after Annabell," Alpha stated, exiting the room. The others stared at his retreating figure, their faces contorted in a pout.

"We're in trouble, right?" Emily glanced at Lucas, who continued to gaze out the window.

"Technically, Emily, you're the only one in trouble," he replied, earning a scoff from her.

"Seriously, Lucas? Is that your response?" Her glare fixed on him.

"You heard Alpha. She also hates you, and you've failed at your job," he observed.

"He said she hates us all. I'm disappointed in you." Emily feigned pain, holding her chest.

"Alpha mentioned that to you as well."

"Lucas, just admit it. Both of us are in trouble."

"It's only you, Emily." His statement drew a sharp stare from her.

"I wonder if you're even my mate." She shot daggers at him.

"Same thought here." Lucas shrugged.

"Is that a rejection then?" Her face remained serious as she approached him, but he remained silent.

"Answer me, Lucas." A suppressed laugh was his only response.

She's quite cute when she's irritated.

"So, that's a rejection?" she inquired before walking away.

"You know what? Starting today, I'm single." Angrily, Emily left the room, not wanting to disturb the sleeping Annabelle.

"Emily, I was joking," Lucas whispered, hurrying after her.

"Hey, come here. It was just a joke, okay?" He embraced her from behind.

"A joke?" Emily's head shook.

"Lucas, you called that a joke?" She pulled away from his embrace.

"I'm on Alpha's side. We were both rejected by our mates, while you're on Luna's side because you rejected us!" She shouted, turning to leave but he pulled her back.

Unbeknownst to them, Alpha and the doctor observed from the hallway of the private hospital, momentarily distracted by their argument.

"Babe, I'm sorry. I can't be without you, so why would I reject you? Besides, you're my other half," he confessed, holding her tightly.

"So, you still love me, don't you?" Emily looked into his eyes.

"I've always loved you, Emily," he admitted, his gaze lingering on her lips.

"And both of us are in trouble, aren't we?" She questioned, earning a puzzled look from him.

"I think so?" Lucas responded awkwardly, causing her to smirk before they kissed.

Their intimate moment was cut short by a throat clearing, prompting them to quickly separate.
