Chapter 21 - The pool

Fluttering her eyes open, she turned around in search of Alvin, but he was nowhere to be found.

She had even gone to the bathroom, but he also wasn't there.

When she asked the guards, they had told her that he went for an urgent meeting.

Not having what to do, she decided to join the maids in the kitchen.

Walking down the stairs, she headed into the kitchen and heard the maids discussing, so engrossed in their very important conversation.

She greeted them and walked into the kitchen, leaning on the kitchen counter, but she startled them.

They immediately began apologizing for not noticing her presence.

"It's okay," she told them, walking around the kitchen, inspecting it and searching for something important she could engage in with them.

The other time, she had claimed to cook with the maids, but she didn't.

How could she cook when all she wanted was an escape?

"Can we do something important?" she smiled at the maids, who were eager to do whatever she told them.

"Let's bake a cake!!" she squealed happily with the maids.

"I'll just assist because I'm not feeling too well," she said, a light smile appearing on her face, while the maids nodded in approval.

The maids were friendly people who always kept to the instructions given to them.

"It will be an elegant cake, right?" the head maid asked, and she nodded.

"I'd like to knead that too."

She enjoyed seeing the way the maids were doing their job.

"How do you do it so easily? It's so difficult," she complained, trying to knead the mixture.

"Luna, please give it to me now; you haven't totally recovered," the head maid pleaded while the rest nodded in support.

"Okay, Luna, just sit and watch how we will mold it, then you'll also join us," they said, which made her smile slightly.

Turning the mixture into different shapes of pans, they headed to the large oven and began transferring the whole pans into it.

While they were preparing for the icing, the head maid and Annabelle went to check their cake when the timer rang.

Putting on their hand gloves, they continued chatting and laughing as they brought out the pans.

All of a sudden, when Annabelle put her hands into the oven to pull out another pan, the internal part of the oven automatically caught fire. It seems the gas has been silently leaking.

The fire got magnetized to her gloves and began burning. Her eyes widened, and she tried pulling it off, wincing at the hot effect of the fire on her white glossy skin.

With the help of the maids, they were able to take off the glove, and quench the fire before it resulted in a bigger accident.

Unfortunately, the little accident has already given her little bruises.

The maids were all shivering in fear, and they tried applying a concealer to hide the bruises.

"Why are they acting this way?" she asked the head maid who was gathering the pans of cake.

"I'm the one who is supposed to be scared of having a scar."

"We will all be punished if Alpha sees those bruises on you," the head maid replied, and took over the treatment of the bruises, while Annabelle could only watch.

"Don't worry, I won't let him see it," she assured, which made them calm down a little, and they continued with their cake, being totally careful around her.

When they finished, there was an elegant cake standing, which made Annabelle's eyes widen as a result of their efforts.

"Wow, I'm impressed," she said, and the maids began clapping happily.

"Does Alpha Alvin eat?" she whisper-asked the head maid, who only shrugged as her reply.

She hasn't seen him eating before, and the head maid of the house doesn't even know if he does eat.

Reserving a part for her and Alvin, they shared the rest with the guards and other maids whose duties weren't in the kitchen.

Luckily for Emily, she had come in search of Lucas but happily ate the cake that was given to her.

They remained in a bar in the Alpha's mansion, discussing private matters.

"So you have no idea where Lucas and Alvin are?" Annabelle asked, sipping on her drink.

Emily had ordered the Butler to get her hot drinks, while she offered a soft drink for Annabelle since she was a human, and their drinks might not be good for her.

According to Emily, it was a little party she was throwing for the both of them because they were frustrated and didn't know the whereabouts of their mates.

Well, it was only Emily who was really worried about her mate.

Annabelle's thoughts were on her life, her sudden change of life. She had nothing to worry about Alvin's absence since the marking was only itching, as if the pain was being hindered.

"You aren't drunk, right?" Emily asked, and she shook her head.

"Okay, how about we go for a swim, at least today is a free day?" Emily said before they both got up and went to change into what they could swim with.

Not wanting to wear swimming trunks that were too revealing since they would be swimming in the pool at the front of the mansion and not the pool behind. Emily didn't want a situation where Lucas or Alpha Alvin would unexpectedly return with the elders, and they would see her and Luna dressed half-naked.

They wore fancy lacy shorts with matching sleeveless tops, before they walked out of the mansion, chatting as they approached the pool.

Walking down the stairs of the pool into the water, they continued chatting as they floated, playing around and laughing.

"I'll go finish my bottle of drink," Annabelle said, climbing out of the pool, water running down her body, her hair drenched, sticking to her body, while Emily remained floating in it, blogging. She was a blogger with a million followers.

"Don't drink too much of it, okay?"

"I won't," Annabelle replied, heading to the bar.

Upon reaching the bar, she finished the whole bottle before running back to the pool and jumping inside as water splashed on Emily.

Out of curiosity to know the secret about Emily's drink, the reason for which she refused her to have the same drink as hers, she emptied Emily's bottle, while her own remained untouched.

"This feels so good," Emily said when Annabelle returned, while they floated on the water, staring at the sky.

"Indeed, it makes me feel free," Annabelle said, enjoying the feeling of floating on water.

Chasing each other in the pool, laughter, grinning, and chuckles as the two young ladies played in the pool made the mansion lively, while the gammas and maids outside watched at them.

The mansion was indeed eventful as everyone involved themselves in different activities.

Today was indeed a free day for some group of the mansion residents.

"I think the drink is starting to have effects on me," Annabelle complained.

"I told you not to drink too much," Emily chuckled softly, having no idea that Annabelle had drank her drink.

"You should climb out before you drown," Emily said, and Annabelle obeyed, swimming out of the pool.

Before she could come out completely, she saw a black car driving into the courtyard, and she stopped to have a look.

Noticing how everyone bowed, stopping what they were doing, she immediately knew that it was her mate.

"Emily, they're back!" she half yelled with urgency laced in her voice, and she swam back to Emily.

"Who?" Emily asked, continuing to float on the water surface.

"It's Alvin and Lucas!" Annabelle informed, peeping out of the pool.

"We need to hide!" she said and pulled Emily into the water, and they waited patiently for them to pass before they'd swim out. She suddenly felt self-conscious, not wanting her mate to see her dressed so indecently.

Staying in the water for up to two minutes, Annabelle was unable to hold in her breath anymore, so she floated out of the water, breathing heavily.

Feeling as though she was being watched, she turned behind, only to see Lucas and her mate whose hands were tucked into his pockets watching her.
