Chapter 24 - The Village Defense - The Boss Wave

Circe looked at her surroundings and noticed one of the wolf riders attacking Asura's group.

She then turned her gaze to the remains of another wolfrider that lay on the ground.

Approaching the gruesome body, she did not hesitate to start sorting through the chaotic mix of innards, blood, and dirt.

Amidst the chaotic mess, she discovered the crystal, stained red with the blood of the wolfrider.

Without hesitation, she wiped the crystal clean with her clothes.

Then she drank the liquid from the crystal.

Faust observed Circe's actions.

'The increase in stats is becoming less now. It seems the effect is most potent on the first use?'

'Or as her stats numbers increase, it becomes harder to raise them further.'

He then decided to send her a message.

[Take all the crystals you can. I don't need a weakling as my champion.]

Circe received the message, her teeth gritting in determination.

Taking a few deep breaths to compose herself, she then burst into action, dashing towards the other wolfrider.

She tore through any goblins in her path ruthlessly.

Leaving a trail of green blood and carnage.

As the number of goblins dwindled,

Circe is now familiar with the location of the crystals.

In a swift motion, she thrust her claw directly at the wolf, killing it instantly.

At the same time, she extracted the crystal from its body.

She than jumped as she put the crystal in her pocket, then tore apart the goblin rider. Painting the ground with it's green blood

Observing from a distance, Asura smiled, impressed by Circe's prowess.

As time progressed, the group faced two more waves of enemies.

With each wave, the survivors grew stronger, but not without cost.

Casualties began to occur.

In a brief respite near the gate, Nex, Aurelia, and Leslie sit together, catching their breath.

Nex glanced at the countdown timer. "Only ten minutes left,"

He then turned to Leslie. "You should return. The time will run out soon."

Leslie looked at Nex with a meaningful expression. "You remember what I asked, right?"

Nex nodded, recalling Leslie's request.

However, he asked. "Are you sure it will be safe?"

Leslie reassured him. "Don't worry, I'm sure of it. We will also test it out first with the other you've kept."

Nex nodded. "Alright,"

Overhearing their conversation, Aurelia couldn't help but ask, "What are you guys talking about?"

Leslie replied with a slight smile. "Just something between us."

Aurelia shook her head with a light chuckle, "You young couple."

Faust observed the group from the camera screen as he sat in the tower.

'Wave 5 should be starting soon. We've encountered goblins, orc warriors, goblin archers, orc knights, and even a goblin mage. What's next?'

'Five people dead... that's five job cards lost. Tsk.'

Faust then switched the camera to Circe, who was now sitting on Asura's lap, her expression flirtatious and playful.

'This woman really knows how to act, and she's grown stronger too,'

He then checks her stats.

Faust contemplated.

'Each level only provides one stat point so far, and the exp increase is so slow.'

'Consuming beast cores seems to be the most effective way to become stronger,'

'But why is the growth so slow from leveling up?'

'Could it be related to the mechanism of how it strengthens them?'

Attempting to piece together a pattern, Faust recalled each instance players gained experience.

'It seems to be still related to the cores.'

'We only gain experience for every successful kill of a monster with a core and when a wave is completed.'

'But that means the 'Gods' have a way to send energy directly to the system…'

'The system is more dangerous than I thought.'

"HOOONKK!!!"

The sudden blare of the horn snapped Faust out of his thoughts.

The portals around the village began to vibrate and shimmer, growing larger.

A notification simultaneously appeared to all the players.

[Final wave for Day 1]

[Boss Wave: Orc Hero]

The ground trembled.

A massive orc, two and a half times the size of a normal human, stepped out from the portal.

Fully armored, wielding a towering shield in one hand and a giant sword in the other.

The orc surveyed the village walls with its sharp green eyes.

As the formidable Orc Hero stood, another enemy emerged from the portal.

A goblin clad in a leather robe is standing beside the Orc Hero.

Soon, a large formation of goblins began to pour out from the portal.

One hundred goblin soldiers, 50 goblin archers, and ten wolf riders, all moving in a coordinated manner.

Billy, observing the advancing army. "My ammo will run out after this wave. We really need to go all out."

Faust suggested, "I think it's time we use the traps prepared by Braxton."

Facing the challenge, Nex couldn't help but laugh, feeling excited about it.

He prepared to dash forward, but Aurelia quickly stopped him.

"Nex, let's use the trap first. Thin out their army before we target their boss,"

Nex took a deep breath, then nodded.

Both of them began to move back towards the gate.

A similar strategy was being adopted on other sides of the wall, as all the defenders prepared to make full use of the traps.

Meanwhile, the Orc Hero, observing the retreat of its prey, raised its enormous sword.

The Orc Hero dropped the sword back down.

Signaling the army to charge forward.

The goblin in the hooded robe stayed close to the Orc Hero as he remained stationary, watching its army advance.

The goblins charged at the frontline, with orcs following closely behind and the wolf riders swiftly maneuvering from the rear.

The goblin mage maintained its position at the back.

As the goblin army neared the wall, Aurelia gave the signal. "Now, Nex."

Nex activated the mechanism hidden behind the wall.

The ground began to tremble violently, and suddenly, it sank, opening up to reveal a deep chasm beneath.

The chasm was filled with sharp spikes, and the goblins, unable to halt their march, dropped into the trap.

Their green blood soon formed a small river within the chasm.

However, the goblin army quickly adapted, focusing their movement on one area.

They began using the bodies of their fallen comrades as a makeshift bridge, piling them up to create a path for the rest of the army to cross.
