Alex's POV:
After freshening up, I wore the black tuxedo specially arranged for me, and then I received a text message from Bruno saying that my father had a surprise for his beautiful wife and would be presenting it at the event. I smiled because I knew the surprise, and I would be the one surprising them.
I walked downstairs when I saw Olivia walk out of the bedroom. I couldn't believe my eyes. She wore a long red ball gown embedded with diamonds; her hair was held into a bun, and beads were nicely placed on it. She had light makeup, and that made her prettier.
"Alex," a voice woke me up from my reverie. I glared to my left and found Orlene pushing her wheelchair towards me.
"Uhm, can I not go?" She asked, and I shook my head in denial. Today was all about my mom, and she had to be there to honor her.
After all, if not for my mom, then there won't be any Bennett Enterprise. "Are you feeling sick?" I asked, and she shook her head in denial. I could understand her fear. She was just a kid, but Jenna didn't spare any chance to say hurtful words to her, therefore traumatizing her.
"Everything will be fine; let's go." I held her wheelchair and pushed her back to her room, where we took the elevator. She was already dressed in a blue princess dress and looked beautiful in it.
We got downstairs, and Olivia glared at us. "Let's go," I said, pushing Orlene outside, and she followed.
Uncle Jack hurried towards us and helped Orlene into the car. Olivia and I sat behind as he drove out.
"Did I mention it was a mask party?" I handed her a mask, and she seemed to be relieved before taking it. I had to hold her up at the office so she wouldn't go see Caleb. I was never scared of someone leaving me, but the thought of her leaving made me was scary.
Tonight, I will keep a close eye on her and make sure she doesn't leave to go see Caleb.
**
We arrived at the event, and it was surrounded by guards. There was a red carpet from the gates to the door, journalists surrounded the place, the car stopped in front of the stairs, and I walked out before helping Olivia out.
She had her mask on; I guess it made her feel less nervous. Uncle Jack helped Orlene out in her wheelchair. As I stared forward, my gaze met with that of a young lady dressed in a see-through white gown. Her smile made me frown. It was Jenna.
"It's Mr. Bennett; who is the lady with him?"
"Take a clear picture; he has never been seen with a lady."
The journalists kept muttering as they found their way towards us but were stopped by guards.
Jenna, who spotted us, then walked towards us while holding my father's hand. She glanced at Olivia, who looked tense. I held her hand and noticed it was sweaty. Was she that nervous? Maybe I shouldn't have brought her here.
"Alex," Jenna smiled at me. I glared at my dad before taking a step forward to leave when he held my hand.
"There are cameras; behave," he said in a whisper, and I scoffed.
"Does a man like you care about cameras?" He got married to a lady younger than me. Jenna has always tried seducing me but to no avail. So how did she find herself with my dad? That was a mystery.
"Don't talk to me that way," Dad said angrily, and I sighed heavily before signaling Uncle Jack to push Orlene inside.
"Let's go," I said to Olivia, who nodded before following me when we got to the door. The journalists started questioning Jenna and my dad.
"Mrs. Bennett, do you not get along with your stepson? And who is the lady with him?" A journalist asked, and I stopped on my path when I heard her call Jenna Mrs. Bennett; that name didn't suit her.
Jenna chuckled before clinging to my father. "Of course, we get along, and the lady... she is not important. We are a happy family."
"That's right, and tonight is dedicated to my lovely wife, Jenna Bennett," my dad said as they both smiled at the camera. I clenched my fist tightly when Olivia grinned in pain. Then I noticed I was applying too much force to her hand, and I quickly loosened my grip.
"Are you okay?" she asked, and I was shocked. This is a question I never expected to hear from her: did she start caring about me or did she just pity me?
Without uttering a word, I guided her inside. The hall was well decorated with bright lights. It was filled with guests dressed in expensive attire that screamed wealth.
There was a space reserved for me, and Orlene and Bruno were already there, so I walked in with everyone glaring at me. I know their attention was pulled to Olivia, wondering who she was.
"Why are they all staring?" Olivia whispered as we found our way to our reserved space.
"Your beauty is flawless tonight," I said and glared at her. I loved when she got shy and her cheeks turned red. I loved teasing her a lot; she was too cute.
We finally got to the space, and I helped her sit on the chair when Jenna and Dad walked towards us; their seats were just next to ours.
I ignored them and glared around. I spotted Coyle, who was discussing with some businessmen, and also Mr. Douchet from Paris, who walked towards us with his daughter Chloe.
"Monsieur Bennett," he said, smiling and extending his hand for a handshake. I accepted the handshake before they walked to their seats.
"Alex, why don't you do a proper introduction? The lady next to you, who is she?" The curious Jenna couldn't wait to know.
"Yes, Alex, it's the first time you bring a lady to an event... Who is she?" Father added, and I glared at Olivia, who hid her nervous look with a mask.
"And take that mask off," Jenna said with an authoritative tone as she sent her hand to take it off. I frowned and held her hand.
"Don't touch my wife with those filthy hands," I warned angrily. If there was a person I hated so much in this world. Then that person will be Jenna Adams.
