Olivia's POV:
I got nervous when the lady sent her hand to take off my mask. To my surprise, Mr. Bennett held her hand and pushed it away.
"Don't touch my wife with those filthy hands," he warned, and I could feel he hated this lady. But I had to admit she was beautiful and also young, so how could she be Mr. Bennett's stepmother? I better not judge her, as she might have her reasons.
"Alex," his dad said angrily before throwing a glance at me.
"You are married?" he asked in disbelief, and Alex nodded.
"What? When?" Jenna scolded as everyone turned towards her. She sighed heavily before smiling.
Bruno walked to the stage and held the mic. "Good evening, ladies and gentlemen," he said, and Jenna had no choice but to walk to her seat.
What was happening with this family? I stared at Orlene, who looked nervous and scared. I placed my hands on hers and also smiled at her.
"Let's welcome Mr. James Bennett," Bruno said, and Alex's dad walked to the stage while waving at some of his businessmen.
"Today is a great day, the day Bennett Enterprise was founded by me," he said, and I saw Alex clenching his fist. I heard his mother founded the enterprise, so why did his dad not mention that?
"And I would like to honor my late wife, Anne Bennett... May her soul rest in peace. She would have been so happy seeing this day," he added, and then I followed his gaze, which was staring at Jenna.
"It was announced that we will start this celebration with the new face of Bennett Enterprise," he said, and the hall awakened with chats.
"Yeah, we all know it's the famous model Jenna."
"She had mistakenly blurted it out on one of her live streams."
"I must say, she is the most lucky woman on earth."
They kept muttering, and I took a peek at Mr. Bennett, who looked composed, then a huge screen rolled behind him as everyone's gaze was stuck there.
"The new face of Bennett Enterprise is none other than my lovely wife, Jenna Bennett," he yelled happily, and they all clapped, but something was wrong.
The screen displayed a different woman as the face of the enterprise; even Jenna had a surprised look. Orlene's lips curled into a smile.
"It's the late Mrs. Bennett."
"I thought it would be Jenna."
They kept whispering in shock and mockery; this was embarrassing. How come her name was mentioned but she wasn't the one in the picture?
The lady in the picture was fair, and she looked like a foreigner. She had the most beautiful smile I had ever seen, and she also looked young. Mr. Bennett's parents looked so young; how could they have an older son? Unless she gave birth at a young age,
"Let's go" Mr. Bennett stood up as he held my hand. I got confused when he walked with me to the stage.
"Mr. Bennett," I called. What was he doing? I was already nervous as it was, so why was he putting me in the spotlight?
"Trust me," he whispered and then left my hand. His hand slipped around my waist as he held my waist.
My heart was racing when we finally stood on the stage close to his dad. "The face of Bennett Enterprise belongs to the woman behind the enterprise's success," he took a mic from Bruno and said.
The hall went into silence, and this time I had the opportunity to see everyone's reaction. Mr. Adams didn't look so good, and neither did Jenna. I understand his pain; he must feel bad for his sister. Why will Mr. Bennett decide to humiliate her in such a way?
"And this event is dedicated to my mother, and since she is of late, the one behind the face of Bennett Enterprise will be no other than my wife," he blurted, and I could feel my head spin.
When he said wife, did he mean me? Then everyone's gaze was on the big screen. I turned and found a picture of me as we walked out of the car. I still had a mask on, but it was me. Those who know me will be able to tell.
"Mr. Bennett," I said nervously. He was placing me into their family web, and I was not a part of their family. I could already feel Jenna's sharp, angry gaze on me.
"Enjoy the party; the stock list will be displayed soon," he said, directing me down the stage. I needed to use the bathroom. "Mr. Bennett, the restroom," I said.
"I will take you," he said shamelessly, but I didn't have the energy to deny it. I also needed some alone time to ask what he was doing.
We walked down a corridor when Bruno hurried towards us. "Mr. President, it's a call from India," he said, and Mr. Bennett became alert. He took out his phone and glared at Bruno. "Take her to the restroom," he ordered before leaving.
"Bruno," another voice echoed from behind us. I turned and found Mr. Adams walking towards us angrily.
"Where is Alexander?" he asked, and I had never seen him this angry; he didn't have a mask on.
"He went to make a call," said Bruno.
"You knew about this, right?" Mr. Adams asked, and Bruno sighed heavily.
"He is my boss; whether I knew or not, it doesn't matter... Only he gives the order," Bruno replied with a straight face.
"Still following his orders like a coward," Mr. Adams commented. What were they talking about?
"You still think I should have chosen to be friends with you over Alex?" Bruno sneered before walking closer to him.
"We were once friends, and Mrs. Bennett was our aunt... but you had no say when your sister decided to marry Alex's dad."
"What should I have done? She is my sister, and I will do anything for her happiness. Tell Alex he will pay for humiliating my sister," he warned before glancing at me.
"You better escape his web before it's too late." His tone sounded like a warning. I swallowed hard and watched him leave.
What did he mean by that? who was Alexander Bennett?
