Olivia's POV:
Things were getting weird. I splashed water on my face before gently wiping it with a tissue. What was happening?
I got so stressed, luckily my gown had an inner pocket, so I retracted my phone before switching it on. Immediately after it was turned on, I received a call from Natalie.
"Hello," I said, and I was forced to take the phone far from my ears as she screamed her lungs out.
"You are the face of Bennett Enterprise; this is the best thing that ever happened to us," she said, and I scoffed.
"Stop saying nonsense; I think this is just the start of my nightmare," and I was right; Mr. Adams looked so upset, which means Jenna and Senior Mr. Bennett were more furious.
"Your picture is being displayed on all billboards in the city," she added, and my eyes widened in shock. The news was just announced, so how did it happen to go this far? It's not like Mr. Bennett was an idol.
"Please tell me you are joking. How am I going to live a normal life?"
"Well, you have a mask on... No one will know it's you," she said, and this comforted me. I sighed in relief. As long as I don't show myself as Mr. Bennett's wife, then no one will know I am the one.
"I want to use the restroom," a lady's sharp voice echoed from outside. I quickly shivered in fear. "I will call you back," I said to Natalie before hanging up.
In a swift move, I wore my mask before walking towards the door. When I peeked outside, I found Bruno trying to stop Jenna from coming into the restroom.
I swallowed hard before walking towards them. Her gaze was stuck on me. She glared at me from my hair to my toes.
"Take the mask off," she said, and I took a step backward, scared that she would pull the mask off on her own.
"Didn't you listen to me?" She added, and I was confused. She was my agemate, but the only thing that made me fear her was the fact that she was Mr. Bennett's stepmom.
"Jenna, please let her go," Bruno said as he stood in front of me. He protected me. I never knew he was this considerate.
Then a smile curled on Jenna's lips: "You must be a powerful girl; you were able to seduce that heartless Alexander? I respect you for that," said Jenna. Why would she think I seduced him?
Until the day of my wedding, I never knew about Alexander Bennett. He was the one who forced me into his life, and I will willingly leave if he chooses to let me go.
"You just declared war today, and I promise you, there will be war," she said before glancing at Bruno.
"You little coward, still following Alex around... And don't you dare call me Jenna? I am Mrs. Bennett." She spouted, and Bruno didn't look affected by her words.
"The night is still young; let's enjoy it," she said with a sinister smile as she turned on her heels and walked down the corridor.
Her words made me shiver in fear; she hated me and was going to make life hard for me.
"I am sorry about that, Mrs. Bennett," Bruno said, and I glared at him, confused. How did I end up in such a mess?
"I want to go home," I said, and he sighed heavily.
"The party isn't over; let's go back," he said, and I clenched my fist angrily. But I didn't want to cause a fuss, so I followed him as we returned to the hall.
Immediately, we walked in, and all eyes glared at me. It was understandable; they must have been curious who I was and why I was the face of Bennett Enterprise.
Finally, we arrived at our seats, and Orlene smiled at me. "You will be fine," she said, and I nodded. Then I held my stomach. I was hungry.
"Let's get something to eat," Orlene asked, and I shook my head in denial. I just want to stay here until the event is over.
"There is a garden behind; we could eat there to avoid the party," she added, and my interest got piqued.
"How did you know there was a garden behind?" I asked curiously, and she had a sad look.
"This is one of my mother's properties, and all her properties always have a garden," she explained, and I nodded. It seems her mom was that nature type.
"Okay, let's go then," I said, and her face brightened. It felt like she also wanted to escape this place.
I stood up to push her wheelchair when Bruno stood in front of us. "She wants to eat," I said, and he nodded before giving way. We passed by Jenna and Senior Mr. Bennett, but they didn't say a word.
The dining was at the edge of the hall when we got there. The waiters there immediately handed us a plate as they opened the meals.
I was shocked; they were all different meals containing mushrooms. Now that I remember, Mr. Bennett is allergic to mushrooms, so why will all the meals contain mushrooms?
"Well, Jenna was in charge of the food," Orlene said, and I nodded in understanding.
"They must hate each other to death," I said, and Orlene nodded.
**
After taking two slices of cake, we found ourselves outside in the garden. I must admit it was beautiful, but it seems to have lost its value. It looked like death. We sat on one of the benches and stared at the stars.
If only life could be this calm, then I wouldn't have anything to worry about. "Orlene, when was the last time you hung out with Mr. Bennett?" I asked curiously, and she placed a spoonful of cake in her mouth before savoring the taste.
Then she shrugged her shoulders. "Why do you call him Mr. Bennett?" she asked instead, and I shrugged my shoulders as well. Maybe because he was someone of a higher personality and also because he was my enemy.
"Olivia," Orlene called out of the blue, and I glared at her, a smile curving on her lips. "I am glad you are here," she said, and I felt touched.
Her eyes were filled with sadness; she didn't have glimmering eyes like kids her age.
"Orlene, we could always meet up and talk... but I won't stay at the Bennett mansion for long," I said honestly. I still planned on divorcing Mr. Bennett and getting married to Caleb.
"I know, you mentioned it countless times... but make your time here worth it," she said, and I nodded. How could a kid be this smart and considerate? I guess she was not only spoilt.
"Can I join?" A voice echoed from our left as we both turned to check the source of the voice. It was Chloe Douchet, the French lady.
She was dressed in a red mermaid gown, and her hair was held in a ponytail. She walked towards us, and luckily I still had my mask.
"Hello, I am Chloe," she said, extending her hand towards me. I guess she didn't recognize me as the secretary earlier today.
I accepted the handshake with a smile; there was no way I was telling my name to anyone. It was better for me to remain unknown.
"Mrs. Bennett," she said, and I put up a fake smile before glancing at Orlene.
"You must be Orlene? Your mom used to talk about you a lot; she even talked to my mom about me joining your family in the future."Chloe said, and Orlene's brows furrowed.
"She did?" Orlene asked, and her curiosity was piqued.
