Chapter 25 - A Persian Cat

Olivia's POV:

Next Day, 11 a.m.

My eyes flickered as I tried to adjust to the light; my head hurt a lot, and I walked down the bed when there was a knock.

"Come in," I said as I held my head tightly. Natou walked in with a glass of water and some pills.

"Natou, you are back?" I asked as I tried to bear the pain, Why did I have to drink so much just because I wanted to irritate Mr. Bennett, and it turns out he wasn't irritated? Why was he so calm last night?

"Mr. Bennett said you should take the hangover pills and also have breakfast," she said, and I scoffed. Why was he behaving like he cared?

"Please take it," Natou said and handed the pills to me. I nodded and drank them before handing the glass of water to her. Then my phone rang, and I checked the caller; it was Caleb. Yeah, I refuse to use the new SIM given to me by Mr. Bennett.

"Uhm, Natou, I will freshen up now," I said and she understood before walking out. With a sigh, I picked up the call.

"Caleb?" I asked as I massaged my head with my hands.

"Are you forgetting something?" He asked, and I got confused. My head was hurting a lot already, so I wasn't in the guessing mood.

"It's my birthday, and I thought you would remember me," he said, coughing hard, and from his tone, it sounded like he wasn't feeling well.

"Oh, happy birthday... and do you have a cold?" I asked worriedly, and he kept coughing. How could he catch a cold in this season?

"Olivia, it's my birthday, and I am not well... You know, my relatives all live in the North. But I have only you to take care of me, just like I did when you had an accident." He reminded me of that awful moment, but I felt guilty. He has always been there for me, and now it was my time to be there for him.

"Caleb… I need to attend an event with Mr. Bennett," I stuttered, If I had a choice, I wouldn't attend, but I didn't have any.

"I see, so you chose to please him rather than to please me... I guess I don't deserve any happiness or care. I will be home all day; maybe just sleep till I die" he said and hung up. Now he made my head hurt more. I dialed his number again, but he didn't pick up.

When I had an accident, he left everything to take care of me. He even got fired from his first job because of so many absences, and just because he wanted to care for me, he has always been there for me, and this is how I was going to repay him.

No, I needed to go see him. I walked to the bathroom and freshened up, then walked to the sitting room and found Orlene sitting in the dining room with her phone glued to her ear. Then she had a nervous look.

"I don't know Dad; he has not mentioned it," she said, and I walked closer to her. Her eyes seemed red, and she was on the verge of crying.

"What's wrong?" I asked, and she raised her head and glared at me.

"Who is there?" I heard a hoarse voice ask from the other side of the phone, I got nervous knowing that it was Mr. Bennett's dad.

Orlene bit her lips. "My maid," she said, and I glared at her but didn't say anything. I joined her for breakfast when she hung up. "It's my dad," she said, and I nodded. Maybe he isn't aware of the fact that his son is married.

I guess when he finds out, then it's going to be a big problem. "Will he be at the event?" I asked curiously, and she nodded. Then I will get to meet him, and he might reject me, saying I am from a low-class family. Then he will threaten Mr. Bennett to let me go or lose his inheritance; he won't have a choice but to divorce me.

I chuckled at the thought of that when Orlene glared at me. "Oh, did he make you cry?" I asked, remembering that she looked sad while talking to her dad.

"No, I am sad about the fact that he doesn't remember Mom on this day. After all, the company was built by my mom," she explained, and I was shocked. Bennett Enterprise was built by her mom and not her dad.

"You don't mean it," I blurted.

Wait, so Mr. Bennett doesn't approve of me working while his mom has worked and built such a huge enterprise? This was getting confusing.

"Olivia, can you stay by my side during the event?" She asked, and I glared at her for a while. I needed to go see Caleb because he was ill and it was his birthday.

"Your parents will be there, so you won't need me," I said with a relaxed tone. She nodded before pushing her wheelchair away.

This family was complicated; I better stay out of their family problems and concentrate on freeing myself.

I picked an apple to eat when I felt someone glare at me. I turned to the door and found Mr. Bennett dressed in a gray suit with his usual cold look. I feigned not to notice him, but he walked towards me.

Maybe he was going to scold me about yesterday, and this would be a good opportunity for me to miss the event.

He sat next to me, and his gaze was focused on me. I couldn't even swallow the apple I was chewing.

"I know you are offended about last night, and you have every right to..." I started, but he was rather calm.

"I bought you a gift," he said, and my eyes widened in shock. Wasn't he upset with me? I went to a nightclub and came back late.

"Mr. Bennett, I don't need stuff from you," I said clearly when Bruno walked in while holding a white cat in his arms.

My eyes widened in shock. It had a round face, small ears, and a long tail. It was a Persian cat.

"Oh my..." I hurried to the cat. Bruno handed it to me, and I ran my hands on its body.

This was the most beautiful thing I ever saw. After my cat died, I thought of getting another cat, but I felt I wouldn't have the time to cater for one.

"Hello there…" I lifted the cat; it had a luxurious coat and looked so affectionate.

I can't believe Mr. Bennett got me a cat; how did he know it was my favorite pet?
