A woman in light-blue robes walked into the lecture and stood on the stage. Unlike the other professors who were clearly black mages, this woman seemed to be from the Blue Magic department. She was a frost elf with snow-white hair and the classic pointed ears that all elves had. Her piercing blue eyes made every person who fell under her gaze feel a chill up their spine.
"My name is Vaeri Winter. I will be your professor for Ice Magic this year. As you all can see I am a Blue Mage but my skill with Ice-Magic is second to only the Head Professor of the entire School of Black Magic," Prof. Winter introduced herself
Ice elves were the rarest race of elves that existed. There were only around 500 alive at a time but their skill with Ice-Magic was unmatched. Their bloodline even allowed them to use spells a tier higher than their talent allowed. So even though Prof. Winter only had mid-tier talent in black magic, she could use high-tier ice magic spells. Her skills with such spells earned her the epithet of The Winter Witch.
"While it is true that my bloodline allows me to use more powerful spells than my talent allows, it is also my ability and the lack of ability of other professors that I can defeat them with ease when using only ice magic.
Many black mages do not use ice magic to its fullest because of the other schools of magic under black magic or they prefer using it compared to the other schools of black magic but lack talent due to their dislike of being a black mage and preferring to use the 'lighter' spells of Black Magic.
But if any of you believe that ice magic is not black magic, then you are fools.
Ice brings stagnation, cold, and death. It stops everything from moving forward so that we as ice mages can be the only ones to proceed. We halt the progress of others for our own gain and to succeed. The ice will consume you if you do not have the correct mindset.
Last year, 3 students died in the School of Black Magic when practicing ice magic while over 20 from other schools were killed or crippled during spars because they had underestimated how dangerous these spells can be."
Her words caused many students to sober up their thoughts. Just like she had said, many of them were planning to try harder in this class than the other classes since ice magic seemed like it was more closely related to Blue Magic but they realized they were mistaken.
'Is all black magic really that bad?'
'Why is everything so evil?'
'Fuck, my parents! Why couldn't they just give me some other color as my primary talent?'
It was only Wyne and a few others who saw the appeal of ice magic. Other dark magics caused a large amount of damage and allowed them to use numeric superiority but they lacked hard counters to the other schools besides White Magic.
Ice magic was something that could be used anywhere and it also was able to counter the elemental magic of the Green, Blue, and Red Magic schools. It made up for the only shortcoming that they saw coming from the Black Magic school.
"For this class, you all will be experiencing the cold so you know better what your magic is capable of. Each of you needs to stand up while I cast this spell. And don't worry about your position. As long as you are behind the tables on the first row. But if you wish to have a better experience, you can stand in front of the tables for a better experience."
Prof. Winter waited a few moments to see if there were any brave volunteers and she was surprised that she actually got 4 of them.
Besides Wyne who had volunteered for curses to be cast on him, there was also Mil, the raven-haired girl from earlier, and a young frost elf.
"Names?" Prof. Winter asked them as they had piqued her curiosity but her face showed no emotion
"Wyne Naliah."
"Mil Aini."
"Koxa Andretsi"
"Nesterin Winter, aunty."
Since frost elves had a small population, all of them were related. Even if they were distant relatives, most called each other aunty and uncle or brother and sister based on their physical appearances rather than the closeness of their blood relationships.
"I am Professor Winter here. I will not treat you any differently just because we are the same race," she told him with an expression that left no room for debate
Vaerin felt his cheeks go red since his aunt had embarrassed him in front of the entire class. He was planning on using his relationship with her to try and get a high class ranking in curses from Wyne but thanks to her words, his plan had failed.
Prof. Winter lifted her hand and created a magic circle that unleashed a blizzard in the classroom. The cold hit all of the students hard but the four in the front had it the hardest.
The winter storm that she unleashed lasted the entire class without break. It never weakened in strength during the entire period. It was only when the class ended that the cold winds and snow stopped just as fast as it started.
Prof. Winter did not say anything during the entire class and as she walked out of the room. As soon as the doors closed, most students collapsed to the ground. The spell she had used was something that none of the students had ever experienced before. Wyne and the volunteers had the hardest time. It took them several minutes to get back up and return to their seats.
'I-Ice really is powerful but her control is even more amazing. Even though she nearly froze us for so long, I can still feel all of my limbs, if only barely. She was able to keep us that cold but we didn't even get frostbite. What a frightful amount of control that must take.'
Wyne was impressed by the possibilities of ice magic. Not only could he take down bigger targets but if he had the same level of control as her, he would not have to worry about damaging the prey he wanted to hunt.
'Wait! What if that was what she wanted to teach us? Even if ice can be deadly, it can be controlled.'
