By the time Maxwell woke up from sleep, it was already three in the afternoon, he was currently in his father's study going through the paperwork. Of course, his mother told him about her talk with Morgana, he is working as fast as he can so he'd be able to go pick her up on time. He was exceptionally happy, he was working and humming to a tune that wasn't familiar. If his worker was to see him, they'd think he was possessed by an evil spirit.
Fiona sat in her room with a smile on her face, she had told her partner-in-crime not to come until she told the person to, she was waiting for the right time to attack. This person is the right man to put Maxwell on the edge of his seat. She wondered why she didn't think of this person a long time ago.
She only thought about her in the fit of rage, she was angry and was thrashing everything in her room and suddenly this person's name clicked in her head as though it had been there and was waiting for her to throw a fit before coming out.
She was putting everything back in place, she couldn't call the maids to help her else the others would find out and she was not ready to start giving them explanations on how she was angry and decided to throw a fit because her plan wasn't going as planned. But she didn't mind doing it because she had found an ACE.
She thought of her son, and the smile that was on her face dropped. She wondered if she was the one who birthed him because sometimes he acted like he wasn't her son. There sometimes she wished her son was more like Maxwell.
Maxwell on the other hand finished his paperwork early, he decided to go pick her up earlier than they had scheduled. "Are you leaving already? I told the cook to make you something, you look thin. Have you not been eating well?" Clarissa said worried lines had formed on her forehead.
Maxwell placed a thumb on her forehead and began massaging it, "I'm fine mom, I eat well. The reason why I've been stressed out these past few months is coming back to me, there's nothing to worry about now."
His mother hugged him, "I'm happy for you son but promise me you'll be rational from now on, don't jump to conclusions until you've reason and thought through what was presented to you. You've received another chance, don't blow it." She broke the hug and held his cheek, pulled his head down and kissed him on the forehead.
"Thank you, mom... I have to go." He hugged her again before leaving.
For some reason his heart was beating so fast in his chest, he was happy and at the same time anxious. While he was driving to her place, he was making a vow in his head and heart, a vow to never jump to conclusions, a vow to always reason with his six senses before doing anything.
But little did they know that what the future holds is uncertain.
He arrived at the foot of her doorstep ready to knock but she opened as if she had sensed him. "Good evening Mr Mayor." She smiled.
"Good evening Mrs Mayor."
Morgana motioned a no with her index finger, "I'm no longer Mrs Mayor, call me Miss Hart." She smiled when he frowned.
"We need to change that name again," Maxwell whispered but she heard him.
"One thing at a time Mr Mayor." She made way for him to enter which he did.
Maxwell held her by her waist and pulled her close to him, the baby bump standing in between them but they weren't complaining. "Thank you M, for giving me another chance, thank you for accepting me back even after I messed up." He locked eyes with her.
"Hey! Everyone deserves a second chance right?" She tried standing on her toes but her weight restrained her from doing so, it's time like this that'd make her curse at his incredibly tall height.
Maxwell chuckled lowered his head and gave her what she wanted, a kiss. The kiss was passing a lot of unsaid words and promises. She melts into the kiss and his hold, his warm embrace.
Maxwell broke the kiss and placed his head on hers, he was panting hard, not because of the kiss but because he was trying to control himself. He desperately wanted to bend her over and have her there but that's not why he was here.
He took a few steps back and created a reasonable amount of space between them, Morgana creased her brows in confusion wondering why he was running away from her.
"M please don't, I'm trying hard to control myself. I am not that strong enough." He said honestly.
Morgana smiled, she still had that effect on him despite being fat and unfit because of the pregnancy. She was grateful that her pregnancy didn't come with stretch marks, she didn't know what she'd have done if she had those on her stomach.
"I'll go get my bag."
Maxwell waved his hand motioning her to stop. "You go wait in the car, I'll handle your bags." She nodded and left. Maxwell went to her room, he knew his way around because this was not his first time coming here.
He carried her bags to the car and locked the door. He entered the car, she was sitting on the short gunseat seat. The drive back home was quiet but it wasn't that uncomfortable, uneasy quietness, it was calming and relaxing. Morgana leaned back and watched the world outside with a smile.
She finally arrived at the place she had once called home, the maids had lined up waiting for her. He had informed them, and the guards stood too.
"Welcome back Ma'am." They chorused as if they had practiced how they'd welcome her.
Morgana smiled, "Thank you."
"We've missed you so much Ma'am, the house has been empty without you." A maid called Edna said.
"I've missed you guys too, and I'm sorry you had to deal with him while I was away."
They chuckled at what she said but were quick to fix their faces when they saw the stern look on his face.
